Taste Testing Tuesdays (40)

Good morning (or whatever time it is where you are), everyone!
Welcome to another installment of Taste Testing Tuesdays here at Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers!  Taste Testing Tuesdays was inspired by 'Teaser Tuesdays', a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.
On the menu this week ... one book that will be making the rounds on a blog tour here next week and another I'm hoping to finish in time for a "Friday the 13th" post (we'll see).
Let's have a taste!

She looked around the kitchen for a possible weapon.  She spotted a nine-inch chef's knife.  Lethal -- but the though of actually stabbing anyone, even in self-defense, frightened her too much.  She settled instead for a small cast-iron skillet.  The notion of fracturing a skull was somehow more appealing.  -- pg 92, The Chill of Night by James Hayman (ARC)

High expectations for this one after reading his other novel The Cutting some time ago.  Have to admit though, the characters background story was a bit disturbing....

It's one of only a handful of books that I've read that is written in prose.  I have to say, though I appreciate poetry, telling a novel length story through that style is a bit much....but we shall see as I an scurrying to read this one for a feature on Friday....

We are the ones who see witches.
The good folk nearly plead,
"Pray tell us who be the witches,
who are the devils in our midst?"
--pg 110, Wicked Girls, A Novel of the Salem Witch Trials by Stephanie Hemphill

*Open to a random page
*Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
*Share the title & author, too, so that other participants can add the book to their TBR.*

Ooh I like the sound of Wicked Girls.

Loved the teaser from The Chill of Night! I was also glad to hear that Wicked Girls was poetry. Now I can move it down on my wishlist. I don't think I could handle a whole book in verse. My teaser is from Brothers in Arms by Lois McMaster Bujold. Happy reading!

Petty Witter: ^_^ It's actually turning out pretty good too!

Kathy Martin: Glad you liked the first, happy to help out on the second, although I wouldn't move it too far down the list as it's actually going rather well! off to check out your teaser post....

Emidy: LOL. Definitely creepy, and the scenes surrounding that teaser... *shudder*

I'm not so sure you're loving your books right now :o) Hopefully by the time you are all done you will have loved the journey!

Wicked Girls was actually on my list, but I didn't realize it was written in prose, which I'm not a huge fan of either. Hmmm...will have to see what you think.

The1stdaughter: Very perceptive. ^_^ No, WICKED GIRLS is actually going better than expected...just have to get in the right frame of mind to read it. The first one...I should have remembered that the author puts a scene or two um..."more descriptive" in nature...I think it's just the type of event in this case that disturbed me. We shall see!

Great teasers! I really like how the stabbing with a knife is scary but cracking skulls with skillet works. :D Great! And so true.

ANd the second one with the witches. Wow! That sounds really interesting and a little dark. Cool!
