The Writing On The Wall: Reading Quirks...Mine vs Yours

So...I introduced this little beauty a long, long, long, long, long...well you get the picture....time ago.  What is it?  Well, it's a little feature I like to call...'The Writing On the Wall', hence the graphic with the matching words above.  It's basically a post where I discuss something of interest with you, generally bookish in nature of course since this is a book blog and all.  Today's writing feature....

Reading Quirks

Quirks...don't ya just love that word?  It's just really fun to say...quirks quirks quirks....but alas, I shan't keep repeating it so as to avoid annoying you and get to the point.  The very definition of the word quirk (or the plural quirks) is a peculiarity or strange habit.  We all have them, some more than others, but hey, that's okay...it helps make us individuals so go on with your quirky self.  Today I bring up the more specific subject of READING quirks...you have them whether you know it or not.  It could be your being drawn to a particular type of book all the time, to where you read, how you read, with whom you read, etc, etc.

For example, one of my own which has been commented on before....I can read and walk at the same time WITHOUT bumping into people or objects.  Now grant it, I bump into things when I'm not reading so perhaps that's the part that makes this a quirk of my own, but I digress....this facet of my reading personality so to speak has been marveled at more than once by those not quite as coordinated in the same sitch.  What's business as usual for me, is a marvel to them...go figure!

So, my fellow reading enthusiasts....I pass the magnifying glass to you....what reading quirks belong to your bookish personality?  Do tell!  Let's see what habits we share amongst us!

The comments are open....

I have to have silence :)

Very interesting post! Hmm... opposite to what Juju said, I used to read with my iPod on! I know, I have no idea why/how I did this, but it's a quirk of the past.

Nowaways, I love/need to have a cup of tea by my side when I read. I don't know, they just seem to go perfectly together!

Juju: Oooh...so with the amount of reading you do, you've creating a "bat cave" reading haven for yourself then, right? ^_^ I adopt this one sometimes...depends on my frame of mind.

Emidy: Thanks! Really? LOL. I've done that before too...depending on the book it can help you focus. Definitely see the perfect fit of a book and a cup of tea, but alas, if I have one, I need to keep it way way way way away from it. (Spill factor and all...) ^_^

Oh I used to read and walk, but I did bump into things and people, and my friends use to laugh about it.

At home I have a favorite spot to read, and if my cat is curled up all nice there, I toss him off the couch. It's my spot and I'm very protective of it! lol

I also hate the tv on, which annoys the hubby but its my quirk.

agirlreads: LOL. Yeah, I think that's what they expect me to do as well...my peripheral vision is pretty good though, so no mishaps yet! ^_^ Love your reading quirk...one of my pups like to do that too, especially this one chair. If you get up, 2 seconds later BAM...puppy is in your spot. Gotta love 'em though. (Dually noted on the TV part, don't care for it on while reading either.)

Oh, I definitely read better when I have music on! Also, if there isn't anyone else around (which for me doesn't happen very often) it helps so much, I'm too easily distracted. :o)
Great Q?!

I have very few DNFs. I have to just keep reading.

No matter where I am reading I need a drink at my side. LOL I have no idea why. If I don't have a drink I can't read. I can also read anywhere and doing anything. People could scream bloody murder and It wouldn't phase me.

I also can only read one genre at a time. I get bored and then switch my genre for a while.

Ok Lots of weird Quirks.

The1stdaughter: LOL. So you fall into the "ooh-shiny" category too, huh? I get that way sometimes. Depends on how focused I am.

ColleenFL: Same here! Even if I have to put it down for a while....I still come back to it. Hopeless...I know.

CleverlyInked: Seems that drinks are a favorite so far! Versatile on your location of reading, good good...though I'm not certain I could ignore the whole screaming bit. LOL. One genre at a time...huh, interesting. Thanks for sharing! ^_^

I am really anal about my books. Before I was aware of the book blogging community and sites like Goodreads, I kept a spreadsheet with all of my books in order by author.

Another quirk is that I absolutely refuse--REFUSE--to read series books out of order.

And last but not least, if I really enjoy a book, I look up that author's list of published books and I feel like I have to read their books chronologically begining with their first book (even if they aren't in a series). I don't always do this, but I like to when I can. I enjoy seeing how a writer progresses with their writing abilities.

That's funny because I read and walk to when I'm really into a book and don't feel like putting the book down when I'm walking through my house.

A great quirky post (sorry I had to get that in). Hardly able to walk in a straight line without bumping into something I admire your ability to read whilst walking.

Julie P: Oh where to begin on that list! ^_^ Let's see...I STILL keep a spreadsheet of the books I'm reading/read....ALMOST always have to read a series in order (RARE occasions have broken away from it)....I look up their other works too, but don't necessarily have that urge to read them in order. Good idea though, seeing how they progress writing wise. Thanks for sharing! ^_^

Kara: Really? Small world! ^_^

Petty Witter: LOL. You're not the only one from what I've gathered, hence why it qualifies as a quirk. ^_^
