Fill the break in your day with reading!

Why hello there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers…the place to be when you’re looking for avid readers such as yourself because you know we always tend to flock together…like birds of a feather.  ^_^

Today, we’re stepping back into the land of the storybook, but this isn’t your typical tale.  You see, it’s a collection of short stories if you will, meant to enchant the mind, brighten your face with a smile and tickle the funny bone…and really, who couldn’t use a little of that now and again?  Without further ado, may I present today’s book of choice…

Favorite Stories from Chirp Magazine
By
Various authors as published in Chirp Magazine

This collection of short stories gathered in one bound book offers young readers the chance to tickle their imaginations for a few minutes or a few hours.  I can see it being a favorite choice for adults looking for a quick bedtime story to send their children off to dreamland….though a few of them may spark their creativity a bit too much if slumber was the intended result!  From monkeys to horses, bears to armadillos, the characters represented in this book vary far and wide.  There’s bound to be at least ONE story that contains a favorite animal from your household.  Speaking of favorites….

It’s hard not to walk away from a collection with a few that caught your attention over others; in this case, I have a handful.  Armadillo’s Special Day …the artwork and the story work wonders to cover a range of feelings over a two page spread.  The surprise on Armadillo’s face (as well as his animal and plant friends) is contagious in both extremes of the emotion.  Spike and Fluffy Get Dressed Up ….again with the artwork!  Spike the hedgehog is adorable and Fluffy, though a caterpillar (a critter I’m not normally fond of) shines as he searches for a costume in time for the party.  The end result…too cute!  Two Heads are Better Than One …takes us from monkey siblings competing for fun to utilizing their skills to help another; great read for those with brothers or sisters!  Finally we have Manfred Meets the Tooth Monster…combine a little bit of ‘Monsters, Inc.’ with a Tooth “fairy” you certainly weren’t expecting and you get a marvelous little read sure to have you cheering along.

In short, though each story is unique, they share a common bond in not only their length but their intentioned lessons.  From my perspective, they teach readers to utilize their resources whether it is that box of building blocks in the corner or the noodle in your head while enjoying the world around them; to be creative and think outside the box whilst respectful…and always leave time for a little fun. It’s the small things in life that add up to the big moments we’ll always remember; short stories like this give us a chance to make a memory in the moment with those we hold dear….from the tall to the small, this one is good for one and all.

Recommended read for all ages.  Young ones will be giggling up a storm as they follow along the antics covered in each tale while older readers will take refuge in a shared chuckle as well as the lovely artwork that resides on every page.  This book is available now at a bookstore near you.  Review copy received courtesy of Owlkids.  (THANKS!)  For more information on this title as well as their full catalog, feel free to visit them online, like them on Facebook or follow along on Twitter.

Until next time…happy reading!

This is so adorable! I love that there are multiple stories because it does make for great reading with more than one child in the room. ;o)

Great review! And can I say...I'm so jealous! I love Owl Kids books! Have yet to work with them, maybe one day!
