The national bestselling author of The Wedding Soup Murder returns to the Jersey Shore where a killer is stirring up trouble during a hurricane…

At the Casa Lido, the end of summer means a party, and hit whodunit writer Victoria “Vic” Rienzi and her family are cooking like crazy for the restaurant’s seventieth anniversary celebration. As they chop onions and garlic, old family friend Pete Petrocelli stops by, saying he knows something that would make for a good mystery novel. Curious, Vic asks Nonna to elaborate on Pete’s claim and learns of a relative who mysteriously disappeared back in Italy…

The night of the party brings a crowd—and a full throttle hurricane. When the storm finally passes, everyone thinks they’re in the clear—until the first casualty is found, and it’s Pete. Remembering his visit, Vic isn’t certain Pete’s death was an accident and decides to dig deeper into his story. What she finds is meatier than Nonna’s sauce…

About the author...

A Jersey girl born and bred, national bestselling author Rosie Genova left her heart at the shore, which serves as the setting for much of her work. The atmosphere of the Jersey shore is present in the details, whether it’s the smell of the sea, the sound of a Springsteen song, or the taste of Kohr’s custard from the boardwalk. And no summer is complete unless she has sand in her shoes.

A bookworm from the time she could sound out words, Rosie spent many happy hours in her home town library where she hid behind the stacks reading the titles she was too young to check out. She earned two degrees in English from Rutgers University, where she discovered to her delight that reading Jane Austen was actually considered homework. Though she’s always considered herself a writer, she didn’t pen her first novel until ten years ago, and she hasn’t stopped since.

Her series, the Italian Kitchen Mysteries, is informed by her deep appreciation for good food, her pride in her heritage, and her love of classic mysteries, from Nancy Drew to Miss Marple. Her debut novel, Murder and Marinara, was named a Best Cozy of 2013 by Suspense Magazine and was a finalist for a 2014 Daphne Du Maurier Award. An English teacher by day and novelist by night, Rosie also writes women’s fiction as Rosemary DiBattista. She still lives in her home state with her husband and her youngest son.

Kali can’t cook to save her life, but she can write. As a foodie reviewer for both a huge national paper and a successful blog, she’s well on her way to achieving her dreams. When she’s offered a cookbook deal, she thinks she’s finally made it…until her latest review comes out a little harsher than expected and the restaurateur threatens to expose all her secrets.

Mac’s whole life is spent in the kitchen, running a New York City restaurant and a culinary school for underprivileged youth. When donations stop pouring in for Mac’s culinary school after a scathing review of his restaurant, he fears he may have to shut the doors if he can’t find a way to turn things around. Then he meets Kali, the reviewer who admits she has no culinary skills. Now he’s made her an offer she can’t refuse—he’ll teach her to cook over the summer and help her with recipes for the cookbook if she’ll agree to write an insider piece highlighting the strengths of his culinary school.

But when things start heating up in Mac’s kitchen, keeping her hands on the food and off of Mac is proving harder than Kali expected.

Sounds good, right?
See, I TOLD YOU SO!
Now, let's peek behind the cover to take the pulse of the story...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Book Excerpt:
     Mac watched as his name finally sank in. She stared at him, unspeaking. Her sea blue eyes were captivating, and made his tough facade waver. She opened her mouth as if to say something, but simply licked her cherry red, glossy lips instead.
     What could she say? Sorry for slamming your business with an unfair and untrue review? That would be a good start, but highly unlikely given her history.
     Kali leaned back into her chair while her fingers twirled a strand of strawberry blonde hair where it fell over her shoulder. “I’m still not sure I understand what this is about. So you own a restaurant. Good for you.”
     Really? She took the playing dumb route.
     He leaned forward, crossing his arms on the table. “I saw your logo. I know it’s you. So instead of pretending to be someone else, why don’t you admit it?”
     “Why should I?”
     “Because I’d like to have a normal, professional conversation with you and it would be easier to do that if you’d own up to who you really are. I know you’re the one writing Kali’s Kuisine.”
     She sat forward suddenly, her face only inches away from his. “Would you hush up?” she whispered, her gaze shifting around the room. “If everyone knew who I was, or who you think I am, I’d be out of a job. Do you understand?”
     He smiled—smirked, actually. It felt good to have her backed into a corner, like he was. “I do understand. Better than you could imagine. I bet outing you would be a career killer. Sort of like how a scathing review can kill a restaurant in a down economy. Funny how things are very similar for us.”
     She narrowed her eyes at him. Oh, this girl had a temper. He kind of liked it.
     Clearly he needed more caffeine if he was starting to be intrigued by the girl who’d slammed his restaurant and apparently didn’t care.
     He understood why she had to keep her identity hidden. If restaurants knew what she looked like, they’d never serve her. He certainly wouldn’t have. Every place would be magically booked solid as soon as she walked through the door. No one would risk a terrible review from Kali’s Kuisine since she almost never wrote a good review.
     A twinge of remorse for being so loud and obvious about her profession caught him off guard. He glanced around the small café wondering if he’d accidentally caught anyone’s attention. It didn’t look like he had. Of course, he didn’t know why he cared either.
     “Did you just passive aggressively threaten me?” A mix of disbelief and anger rippled in her voice.
     “No, but if you want to take it that way, I won’t stop you.”
     There was something intriguing about the twinkle in her eye—a spark behind the anger. Something that told him she knew exactly what she was doing with those reviews and she was both shocked and amused someone would threaten to do the same to her. She would challenge him and he couldn’t wait. He was ready to take her on.
     He was right, she was wrong, end of story.
About the Author
Heather Thurmeier is a lover of strawberry margaritas, a hater of spiders, and a reality TV junkie. Born and raised in the Canadian prairies, she now lives in New York with her husband and kids where she’s become some kind of odd Canuck-Yankee hybrid. Constantly wondering if she’s about to use the Canadian or American word, Heather often chooses wrong, confusing her editor and friends alike. Occasionally, she still adds an extra “u” to random words for no reason other than, “It looks right that way!” She firmly believes that world peace could be achieved if people used their mouths for things like kissing and eating delicious chocolate instead of talking so much. Living life like a romance heroine, Heather knew in their first kiss that she would marry her high school sweetheart. Two countries, two kids, and half a dozen pets later they are still happily in love. Heather’s currently writing her next romance, which will probably be filled with sassy heroines, sexy heroes, laugh out loud moments, and always a happily ever after. She loves to hear from readers on social media and her website!
Her latest release is the contemporary romance, Pinch of Me, Dash of You.
Anyone? by Angela Scott
Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Today, we've exploring a post-apocalyptic Young Adult title that is sure to keep you turning pages (or flicking screens, as was the case for me) right up til the end.  It stars a young lady not unlike many of you put in an unexpected situation where her choices are brought down to the most basic levels....survive or die trying.  Have I got your undivided attention yet?  GOOD!  Ladies and gents, prepare to devote the next few hours to today's ebook of choice...
About the book...
The end of the world? That’s the stuff of Hollywood blockbusters and deep philosophical exercises in school. No need to sweat it. So when sixteen-year-old Tess’s doomsday-dad builds a bomb shelter in their suburban backyard, everyone thinks he’s gone crazy….until fire rains down from the sky, sinking whole cities into colossal craters and setting much of the world ablaze.
Tess’s dad gives her a few short minutes to gather her emergency bag and her freaked-out kitten, then leads her outside and into the underground shelter. Terrified, the last thing she expects is for him to leave her there all alone, but he has no choice—he must find her missing brother.
Before leaving, he makes Tess promise to keep the hatch door shut, not to open it for anyone but him, and to stay put until he returns.  But he forgot to tell her one thing: What is she supposed to do if he never comes back?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This was one of those sleeper reads that really sneaks up on a girl.  I went in expecting a decent read.  After all, it had received good feedback already and the premise sounded interesting enough.  What I got was a WHOLE lot more.

Tess is just an ordinary girl thrust into an extraordinary situation.  I mean, really...even those that plan for the end-of-the-world-disaster-type-stuff don't honestly think they'll see it come to pass (well, most anyway).  Here, dear old Dad gets to say a big I TOLD YOU SO...that is if he were there to say anything at all.  After tossing Tess in the bunker, he skips town to save her brother with his word he'll return and a promise from her to stay put. Yeah....right.  Tess is the dutiful child and does as told but when things start to breakdown and the hours turn to days turn to weeks, what's she expected to do?  Simply sit there while who knows what happens out there and wilt away by her lonesome?  Eh, WRONG!  She has too much hutzpah for that but perhaps more importantly a desire to LIVE.

Tess' journey is as expected....long, arduous, fraught with peril, but certainly not lonely.  Ah, caught your interest there did I?  Well, don't be fooled for a moment...the world is no longer teeming with people but she does have her cat as a constant companion and two gents who may or may not exist.  I'll let you ponder that one on your own but suffice it to say, you'll be left trying to paint the bigger picture as black or white right through the last sentence.

Personally, I loved Tess' character, even if she was conflicted, indecisive, and whiny at times; she's a teenager for crying out loud.  There is also that end of the world thing, so who wouldn't be?  She toughs out the hard times and holds on to hope when most would have fallen flat.  Her boundaries are tested in more ways than one but in the end, she's admirable and I love her for her genuine nature.  Now, as for the others, or should I simply narrow it down to Cole...he is a quandary.  I must admit I wondered if there was something more to him after the tattoo was discovered...and then of course when he visits her in the area that's entry-by-permission-only but I never questioned his existence per se.  (Again, not answering your questions as to why you might question it....just gonna let you hang.  You're welcome!)  He was strange but a good egg as they say and I'd definitely rather have his odd snarky self with me on a trip through the aftermath than be on my own.

In conclusion, a WONDERFUL read that I'd recommend to Young Adult fans of all ages without a doubt.  There's a little something for everyone no matter your interests, or tastes.  Crave action, gore, and horror (to some degree)?  It's there.  Love the potential for romance in any form?  It's there.  Just looking for a good story about something that's unlikely but hey, it could happen?  It's there.  Like I said, just add it to your "to read" list and save yourself the trouble of one day wondering WHY you didn't get to know this author's work once upon a time.

Taste Testing Tuesdays!

Hi guys!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're taking part in TEASER TUESDAYS with our own version, Taste Testing Tuesdays.  Same principle, different name.  Anywho...today's tasty tease comes to us from my current-almost-finished-if-I-could-only-read-faster book in progress, The Publicist, Book 3:  Climax by Christina George.  Now, I'm reading the print ARC version and there are no page numbers so I'm guestimating on the exact location, but bear with me.  Ready, set, TEASE!

Yes, when it came to confessing, Delia was the first person she thought of not telling.  Although she was in fact probably one of the most talented literary agents, telling Delia a secret was like taking out a front page ad in the New York Times.

-- about 80% through

Ah, yes.
I remember this part.  Delia is DEFINITELY not the person to confide anything in especially the secret that Kate is currently under the stress of.  Poor Kate...

Look for my review coming next week as the blog tour swings through!

So, what are YOU reading this Tuesday?
Do tell!

Waiting for the Voo by Dean Ammerman

Hi guys!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're taking a walk on the wildly weird side of things and if you think I'm simply being mean by calling names with that statement, I'm about to prove you wrong.  This time around, we've got a title from an author whose work I've read previously that's gracing the Middle Grade arena with his writing once again (my words, not his ^_^).  We've come a long way from Anteater-Boy, a tale whose story was fiction but grounded in reality, to meet the feature of the day that's certainly....OUT THERE.  Ready, set, here it comes!  Today's book of choice is....

by
Dean Ammerman
9780984682232
Kabloona

About the book...
Waiting for the Voo is a story about 13-year-old Wilkin Delgado (who’s from almost the exact center of Minnesota) and a tug-o-war champion, gray-haired, exiled 14-year-old tattooed Missouri girl by the name of Alice Jane Zelinski who join forces with an intergalactic flip-flop wearing plumber named Cardamon Webb to fix a nasty sewage problem that threatens to destroy the universe.

Along the way the three—and one or two others—must deal with smelly, spiky monsters, a ch-duck, an ancient book, a rat, a pair of ostriches and
the mysterious Voo.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Where do I even begin?
First off, the book is labeled as Middle Grade or Young Adult.  In analyzing what I read, I'd have to say the imagination and creativity used would push me towards the former audience, but the vocabulary and word play steers me towards the latter.  A conundrum to be sure.  Let's split the difference and say a great read for the OLDER Middle Grade reader....okay?  Okay.  Now...
Story wise, this is one CRAZY read.  I mean we have two kids helping an intergalactic plumber to essentially re-plug the universe before all the nasty, smelly, weirdness that resides within can escape into our reality.  If that wasn't odd enough, the time has passed for easy fixes so the trio (and growing) must look for the (strangest) signs as well as the three miracles in order to set things right.  I won't even begin to explain either aspect of that to you because to do so without actually reading the book would probably either A) give you a headache or B) require me writing a book to supplement his.  Just take me at my word and leave it at that.
Character wise, you can't help but feel for both leads in one way or another.  They interact like siblings, pushing and pulling against each other the entire time, yet despite their obvious dislike for one another, deep down neither is going to let the big bad get them without having a BIG say in it first.  Touching....yes, but still awkward.  As for Cardamon, he's a foolish lad for getting stuck with that name but a genius for trusting two kids with the fate of the universe.  No, really!  Considering how everything turns out, total genius title belongs to him.  As for how they turn out, I shan't say but things get a bit hairy, uncertain and otherwise murky right up to the very end.  If you like the edge of your seat than the last few chapters will be your new best friend.
In conclusion, I enjoyed my time within the pages but I'm not exactly certain I can say why without sounding like a wackadoo myself.  It's not an earth-shattering read nor my top for the year, but it was fun nonetheless and by all means memorable.  Recommended as previously stated for the older Middle Grade set or anyone that likes a curious end of the world story with a dash of heart and a big whomping ch-duck.  (Don't ask.)
Author Chris Rylander strikes again with The Codename Conspiracy series!
HI guys and gals!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Today, we're welcoming back an old friend, in more ways than one, as we feature not one but TWO Children's Fiction titles via Walden Pond Press.  The star is the latest release in a FAB new series from none other than author Chris Rylander...you remember, the mind behind The Fourth Stall saga?  Yes!  I TOLD you today would be good.  ^_^  Though the BIG focus is on the second installment of the series (out in paperback 02/03/15), the publisher was kind enough to send me the FIRST book in the series as well so I could get all caught up on the action.  (THANK YOU!)  And now, 700 combined pages later....I'm ready to spill!
Now, I must warn you.  If you're not into secret missions that seem impossible, the unlikeliest of spies, evil henchmen that truly enjoy their work and loads of unexpected adventure...well, you've not only got the wrong blog, but the wrong post!  Me?  I'm game especially when it comes from this bookish duo.  So, if you'd be so kind as to step back behind the line of scrimmage, I'll let loose today's books of choice from author Chris Rylander's, The Codename Conspiracy series...
Book 1:
9780062120083
In this first installment of the series, we meet Carson Fender.  He's a notorious seventh grader in Winnow, North Dakota but you'll never guess why.  His GPA?  Nope...but if he REALLY wanted to, it could be that.  His athletic ability?  Wrong again...though he's getting quite a workout now that things have taken an interesting turn; maybe next year.  Give up?  He's a GENIUS when it comes to pulling off the most out of this world pranks you couldn't even dream of.  Yep!  That's his claim to fame, the latest being a herd of fainting goats let loose on school property (yes, you read that right), which wasn't even the actual PRANK!  Like I said, he's a genius in his own right...now if he'd only put those skills to use for the greater good.  *hears a knock*  What's this?  *looks again*  Is that opportunity?
Why yes indeed it is and it takes the form of a secret agency, some Russian mobster-types, human leverage hidden in plain sight, and sadistic little people (or rather a little person as it is just one in particular) more than happy to carry out their task of torture.  *gulp*  Yeah, I don't think when Carson complained about the boring town he lived in, he intended to shake things up QUITE this much....   Things get quite hairy (and SCARY!) as we reach towards the final pages but hang on tight because the ending is going to knock your socks off.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Book 2:
9780062120113
In the second installment, we find Agent Nineteen is in GRAVE DANGER and it's up to our formerly released but now reactivated Agent Zero to SAVE THE DAY!  Oh, but this is no walk in the park...or rather it is because of where it takes place but it's much, MUCH more dangerous.  How so?  Well let's see here....Carson must outwit savvy bad guys intent on taking over the world (eventually), reach Agent Nineteen before the clock runs out or its curtains for him, keep from blowing his cover not only to the world but his closest friends, and someone manage to escape a deadly dome of snakes.  Did you catch all that or were you too startled after that last little tidbit?  Uh-huh, that's what I thought.  Join Carson and the crew for another dead defying adventure as they try to safe the world once again against all odds...and those odds are ever falling out of their favor.
*dun dun dunnnnnn*
* * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Now, let's see if I can summarize.  I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Carson and friends....even Agent Nineteen and Agent Blue were a pleasure at times.  I worried and fretted.  I gasped in terror and sighed in relief.  There were times I wondered in book one whether or not the story would finally move along (seeing as it actually comprised about 48 hours of time) but when it did, it was worth the wait.  Book two had me worried from the start as it wasn't lining up with the first book's ending, but by chapter three we were back on good terms.  Throughout both stories, my suspicions were raised on numerous occasions as I tried to figure out who did what or was involved with whom, and I must say, a few were confirmed while others were blown right out of the water.  (Nice job!)  All in all, it was a wonderful read and lived up to the talent already on display in the author's first series.  I for one, will be anxiously awaiting the next release, especially with the addition of Agent Atlas and finding out about Medlock's.....  *END MESSAGE*
Okay, so let me be the first of many to say that there is A LOT to digest in that synopsis!  I mean, our leading lady has a mysterious past, her two suitors have different reasons for pursuing her while both hide their true selves, and the gateway to you-know-where has a chance of opening?  Well now, I think it's safe to say that all my fellow Supernatural fans know that's NEVER a good thing.  So, I'd say yeah, there is plenty for both the Paranormal fan and the Romance ridden heart.
