~~~   GUEST POST   ~~~
🌻  Bloom  πŸŒ»
Written by Melanie Brazdzionis
I’ve often wondered about those of us lucky enough to know, at a very early age, who they are and what they’re going to be in life. For some it seems to be super obvious because they have a huge talent. Let’s take Taylor Swift, for example. I think of Taylor as a variety of a long-lasting daisy. She bloomed in early spring. Her career will likely last throughout the fall of her life, if not longer. Many, if not most of us, are not that lucky. We struggle to find out who we are or what we came here to do. It used to be said that the average person will change jobs or careers at least three times in their lifetime. According to Google, that number is now up to five times or higher. I’ve changed careers several times myself, but now believe I’ve finally ascertained who I was meant to become.
Acknowledging an Underlying Passion
I grew up playing games like Scrabble and Boggle. I like crosswords and word scrambles. I enjoy words in different languages. But most of all, I love rhyming words. In my 20s, I wrote song lyrics. Now I find it engaging to not only draft a rhyming manuscript, but to edit it as well. I enjoy the time spent in the process of writing and editing. At 60, I’ve finally identified the passion that’s been with me for a lifetime.
Finding Joy
It’s taken me over 30 years to realize that I am good at many things; I just needed to find where I was willing to persevere. During the pandemic, I had plenty of time on my hands to do whatever I wanted. So, I decided to do only things that I enjoyed. I played the piano and sang. I returned to studying the beautiful language of French because I’ve always wanted to be fluent. I practiced yoga every morning because it brought me peace. I went on long hikes with my husband for the exercise and companionship. Doing these things made me realize that I was nourishing my soul with love and attention.
After weeks of continuing to bring myself joy, I suddenly had the desire to do something more that would deeply fulfill me. That’s when I found the courage to pull out the story of Miranda Moose Loves Orange Juice that had been sitting at the bottom of my ‘Someday-Maybe’ list for years. Following the path of doing only those things that brought me joy, I found out that I could do this: write a children’s book. I not only completed the first, but I’ve continued to write an additional three books, which I am now looking forward to publishing over the next couple of years.
Juxtaposed to Taylor Swift, I see myself as a winter bloom—a poinsettia, if you will, that still has great potential to stay hardy for several more years—as long as I continue to nurture myself.
Give to Yourself
We’ve all heard the age-old adage to “use your time wisely.” I say, “use your time lovingly.” If you’re still wondering what you want to be when you grow up, give yourself some loving attention. Focus on what is fun for you. Ask yourself the difficult question, “If I could do one thing right now, anything I want to do, what would that be?” Pick a few things that you really enjoy doing. Then give yourself permission to do them! Give yourself the time to do them. Do at least one of those things every day—or as often as you can...and watch yourself. You just might bloom.
About the book...
Colette
I’ve spent the last eighteen years of my life living and breathing dancing, there’s been no time for anything else. Now, as a seasoned member of The City Ballet, my goal of becoming a principal dancer is within reach. But in order to land a pivotal lead role, the choreographer wants more passion and emotion in my dancing. The problem? My lack of experience with relationships and love. The solution? I need to start dating, if only as research for the coveted role.
I’m used to drilling footwork. Repetition. Muscle-memory. But how can I practice dating?
I never imagined Rhys Spencer, my childhood friend and notorious ladies’ man, would be the answer.
Rhys
I’ve only come back to NYC to claim my trust fund, but being faced with losing control of my parents’ legacy foundation to my cousin and rival has me rethinking my plans. Though my reputation as a ladies’ man paints me in an unfavorable light with the foundation board and has me desperate to change my ways, if only temporarily.
My childhood friend, Colette Davenport, is the perfect fake girlfriend. She’s talented, gracious, and stunning. With her on my arm, I’ll have no problem convincing the board I’m the right man for the position. Everyone is shocked by the pairing of the sweet, yet determined ballet dancer and a tattooed bad boy with a BIG reputation.
When the competition intensifies, and I blindside Colette with a new proposal, things start to heat up. Soon, I’m on my knees for a different reason and I’m breaking all our rules.
With every kiss, every touch, I’m even more desperate to have her. To keep her for myself. I never want our arrangement to end, and no one is more surprised than me.
The spell-slinging, shape-shifting, and epic fantasy adventure concludes in Book Three of the Songs of Magic trilogy!
After confronting the evil Hamelyn Piper, Patch Brightwater, his dracogriff friend Barver, and an army of Pipers have been transported to a mysterious island where they find themselves trapped with monstrous beasts. Meanwhile, their shapeshifting friend, Wren, has been captured by the nefarious villain and is working hard to escape a pair of magic-dampening manacles.
Clad in his suit of impenetrable black armor, with traitorous dragons on his side, the Piper of Hamelyn hunts for a mythical amulet to achieve true immortality. But Erner Whitlock, an apprentice in the Piper’s Custodian Elite, is on the verge of discovering yet another foe with even more sinister plans . . . Can Patch and friends reunite in time to prevent destruction from raining on the world?
S.A. Patrick’s Songs of Magic trilogy is a brilliant retelling of one of the darkest legends of all time, "The Piper of Hamelyn." Combining folklore with the very best of modern storytelling, the books will delight young fantasy fans who are hungry for perilous quests, friendships forged on the road, and an inventive magic system that thrills the imagination.
This was the epic conclusion to a fantastic trilogy that we didn't even know we were looking for!  If you haven't had a chance to start this one from the beginning, I highly suggest you do because there is SO MUCH high flying fun, dastardly doings, magical mishaps, and dangers to dodge, you DON'T want to miss a moment.  Seeing this ragtag group of friends come together to fight the ultimate evil, when merely once upon a time they weren't even strangers to one another, but individual lives going about their business unaware of the others existence.  To go through everything they've already gone through and continue pushing past the adversity, obstacles, and downright death PROMISES being thrown their way...it just goes to show that ULTIMATE POWER does not make a true hero (or heroine).  It's the size of their heart, their commitment to the cause, the way they treat others, and how they handle the ups and downs that life gives them.  Could Patch have thrown in the flute AGES ago?  Sure...and everyone was rooting for him to do it even, but that small inner voice that told him it wouldn't be right, that he could DO something to help the greater good even if there weren't hoards of people behind him, and the vague hope of a dream in front of him...that voice along with the little family these guys created won out, became his "theme music" so to speak, and kept him going.  The could be said for his band of friends...from Wren to Barver and back again.  They all needed something, were reaching for someone, and in this motley crew they found it and more.
If you're a fan of high adventure, fantasy, and friendship, this is the book, nay the series for you!  Don't miss out on the tale within, the lessons to be learned, and the dreams to be shared.
