RRR presents...a DOUBLE Dose of Picture Book FUN with Full Media Ltd!

HI there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Happy Monday to you and yours!  I know, Monday has a bad rep, but think about it something else and the beginning of a typical work week is still "Monday" regardless, so you know...give it a chance!  Anywho...

Today we're joining Rachel's Random Resources for a DOUBLE dose of Picture Book fun with Full Media Ltd.  It's a branch of Full Proof that was formed in 2011 to bring delightful reading selections to the next generation as it were...or to those with simply wider reading habits and oodles of imagination (*raises hand*).  One deals with a common problem in a newish way, or at least from a new narrator, while the other presents a unique perspective on the whole bullying issues.  Intrigued?  Good...that was my aim.  Ready or not, here come today's titles of choice...

This was an adorable tale of one little sheep you simply COULD NOT go to sleep!  Whatever is a sheep to do?  I mean, they can't exactly count themselves...or can they?  Well, wonder no more as you follow Tansy on her quest to reach Dreamland, but be prepared for pitfalls along the way.  How so?  Well, let's just say that when we're needing sleep, sometimes the things we try don't turn out 100% perfect...which in this case leads to a potential disaster, possible rescue, and return of peace of mind in the end...along with a Tansy that is FINALLY able to catch some shut eye.  Just don't look at the rest of the flock, okay?  😉

A joyfully fun read at bedtime or anytime for kiddos of all ages with illustrations that will make you smile...and invite YOU to count along!

About the author...

Marion Adams has been writing for as long as she can remember, usually for fun and sometimes for money as well. She started her career as an in-house copywriter with a publisher and now works as a freelance proofreader and editor. It’s her dream job because she’s paid to read all day (and eat dark chocolate). Over the years, she’s written all kinds of things for both adults and children, some serious and some less so, with published work including magazine stories, articles, poems, plays and non-fiction books.

Marion lives in Devon, UK, and when she’s not reading or writing (or eating dark chocolate), she loves going for walks on the wild moors where her picture book Go To Sleep! is set.

About the book...
If you could change something about yourself, would you do it? When Sarah Simpkins is teased about her shadow in the school playground, she finds herself wishing she didn't have one. That night she has the chance to make the wish come true. But will losing her shadow really make her happy?

Harry Potter reference, anyone?  Couldn't resist!
When I thought of shadows, the three brothers story came to mind.

This is actually a fairly gentle way of addressing bullying, as the author has chosen something that everyone has, no one can change, and most likely, they've not been picked on about it...but it still gets its point across.  Sarah is bullied by the other kids about her shadow, and in turn makes a wish upon a shooting star for it to disappear...*POOF*.  Imagine her surprise when IT ACTUALLY DOES!  First, elation...they can't pick on her now!  Then, realization...if they find out she doesn't have one, what will they say?  Therein lies the eternal question as to whether we should have to change ourselves to please others, or simply love ourselves and cherish those that accept us as we are...if you've guessed the latter, you're a smart cookie indeed.

With colorful illustrations to capture the eye, the story is one for readers great and small...because sadly enough, bullying is not something only dealt with in childhood.

Red: A Modern Fairytale Retelling
Jessi McPherson

Genre:YA Fantasy

Everyone has read the tale of Little Red Riding Hood... Such a carefree, naïve girl who fell victim to the wolf and had to be saved by the Huntsman. I’d like to set that story straight. It all began with a girl, a curse, and wolf. We all have a hero inside. All it takes is to believe. Cara knew the legends of her village but she never thought she'd become one.

“Please help me,” a weak voice said in the distance. Cara ran toward the faint
sound, and on the ground found a young man, no older than she, lying covered in
blood and wounds.
“Oh, god. Are you okay?” He was silent. She knelt beside him to check his
pulse. It was there, but it was weak. “Well, hang on. Hopefully Gran has
something to help.” Carefully she lifted him, but it took everything she had to
bring him to the trail. She knew there was no way that she would be able to carry
him all the way there. “Please stay alive until I get back,” she whispered to him
and took off running. It only took a few minutes to make it the rest of the way to
the cottage. “Gran, Gran, please come quick!” she yelled as she headed for the
“Dear child, what has you all worked up?”
“I need your cart. There was a young man in the woods, and he’s injured.”
Her Gran looked up at the moon. “Come, child. Show me where.” They
hitched her horse to the cart and Cara led her Gran to where she had left him.
“Was he alone?” Gran asked.
“Yes, and gravely injured.” As they rounded the bend, they could see that he
was still lying on the side of the road.
“Oh dear. He’s been attacked. Come, let’s get him to the cottage and tend to
his wounds. We don’t have much time,” her Grandmother urged.
“He’s coming,” he groaned. Her Gran knelt beside him and whispered
something. He seemed to relax.
“What did you say to him?”
“Only that he was safe and being treated,” she replied. They walked quietly
back to her cottage. “Place him on the cot, dear. Do you have the elixirs your
mother sent?”
“Yes, here in my bag.”
“Good. I need those− also, some wolfbane and jasmine from my shelf.” Cara
grabbed the plants that she had been asked to get and sat beside her
Grandmother, watching her work.
“I don’t recognize him from the village,” Cara said, placing the plants in the
mortar for her Gran.
“No, I don’t suppose he is a villager.”
“Where do you think he came from?”
“I think we will find out, either when he wakes or when the sun rises,” her
Grandmother said.
“What do you mean?”
“You’ll see, child, and it’s about time.”

Hi all, I'm Jessi Mcpherson. I live in a small town in Iowa right on the banks of The Mighty Mississippi. I started writing when I was about 10 years old. Almost every girl has a journal but I not only had fun stories of the day but poems and short stories that popped in my head. I love fantasy and romance novels and read almost daily. I like to find my inspiration in everyday life. That's one of my goals is to find one thing every day that inspires me. I grew up an army brats so I have traveled to a few places over the years. I have two amazing children and a very amazing husband. They thankfully put up with crazy work schedules because being a mom and a writer isn't enough but I am also the general manager of Sidelines Sports bar in my home town. No matter how busy I find time for it all. I do hope you enjoy my books and I look forward to writing more.
