Hi guys!
Post two of the day here at Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers...the place where we simply just can't get enough BOOKS and it's no secret that you know EXACTLY what I mean. ^_^
This time, we're playing host to and helping to kick off (whoo hoo!) a blog tour via Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours (Hi, Lori!) and featuring another cozy mystery for you genre fans out there. It's bookish and fun and well, everything a cozy should be. Ready to dive in? Let's! Today's featured book of choice and blog tour guest is....
Nestled in the barrier islands of Florida's Gulf Coast, Fort Myers Beach is home to Mary "Sassy" Cabot and Bridget Mayfield—owners of the bookstore café, Read 'Em and Eat. But when they're not dishing about books or serving up scones, Sassy and Bridgy are keeping tabs on hard-boiled murder.
Read 'Em and Eat is known for its delicious breakfast and lunch treats, along with quite a colorful clientele. If it's not Rowena Gustavson loudly debating the merits of the current book club selection, it's Miss Augusta Maddox lecturing tourists on rumors of sunken treasure among the islands. It's no wonder Sassy's favorite is Delia Batson, a regular at the Emily Dickinson table. Augusta's cousin and best friend Delia is painfully shy—which makes the news of her murder all the more shocking.
No one is more distraught than Augusta, and Sassy wants to help any way she can. But Augusta doesn't have time for sympathy. She wants Delia's killer found—and she's not taking no for an answer. Now Sassy is on the case, and she'd better act fast before there's any more trouble in paradise.
Includes a buttermilk pie recipe!

Okay, I've said it before and I'll say it again...how is it that the Cozy Mystery genre has the market cornered on quirky but catchy titles that are either too cute or too much fun? I mean really, they just call to you, am I right? Now, take the title with the cover (which I LOVE by the way) and mash it together with what's inside....instant work of bookish art.
Story wise, it has all the key components; a who done it, likable and non-likable characters, a small town where everyone is connected to everyone else in 3 steps or less, you know....the works. I really liked the attitudes and mannerisms that jumped off the page, for example Aunt Ophie (woo-eee! That woman knows how to take charge!) and Augusta Maddox (a firecracker in an older woman's body. Are they our leads? Well, not exactly, but they make an impact nonetheless.
Along with the story and characters, I really must say I ADORED the setting, not only does it take place close enough to my neck of the woods, but the bookstore/cafe the ladies run....Read 'Em and Eat....LOVE! They have author named and themed tables complete with quotes and passages laminated to the tables. They have dishes like Old Man and the Sea Chowder and Catcher in the Rye Toast. See? Tell me you're NOT smiling? It's definitely a place any bookish soul could call home whilst taking in some delicious eats at the same time.

So, while I came for the title and cover, I stayed for the location and the ladies leading the pack in solving the murder of the beloved soft spoken local, Miss Delia. Trying to solve the crime committed along the way is only half the fun; the rest comes from taking in the sights, sounds, eats and reads that crop up here and there. Recommended read for older teens through adults that are looking for another series to add to their wish list....yes, you read that right; it's the FIRST book in a new series. Who doesn't love the promise of future reads?

As a relative newcomer to cozies this has me racing to pre-order it! I have to wait only 1 day to get it. Not sure when I'll start reading it but it will be read! Thanks for the recommendation ^o^/
ReplyDeleteI love the mystery within the mystery. Lost treasure, Agatha Christie and a real life murder thrown for more adventure.
