Something's off in this little safe haven type town, and it's not just their obsession with the gothic side of tourism!  No, you can feel it from the word GO, but you can also tell that its not something to simply write off.  Things take on a SPOOKIER connotation when Olive seeks to reach out not just to the new girl in town, and, in a roundabout way, her ex-best friend, but to someone on the other side.  She had a close call of her own, and it made her question things, and they are only questions that another soul that's been there can truly answer.  Ever hear that old adage of being careful what you wish for?  Yeah, that's definitely a case in point situation here, but without asking the question, she never would have faced her fears for the sake of another, inadvertently helped lay a soul to rest, and...okay, well she also wouldn't have come close a SECOND time to an unplanned expiration date, but she finally quiets the voices of doubt in her mind, and rebuilds friendship foundations she didn't know how to mend, all while discovering a bit more about herself along the way.

I really got into the story of not only Olive and friends, but Jay!  It was just the right amount of creepy to give you the chills without causing you to actually lose sleep, while still being believable enough to keep you on the edge of your seat.  I admit, I had my doubts about a particular person...things just seemed too convenient at times with them...but my suspicions weren't confirmed until closer to the end, so don't worry about spoilers, you'll get everything at once in the big reveal!  A great read for the season for Young Adult Fiction fans, while also serving as a reminder to not worry so much about what lies beyond the veil, but more so about today.

Oh.  My.  Goodness.
This book was SO SWEET!
I was literally sitting there reading each epage with a sappy grin, going awww as the story progressed!  There was simply nothing to it, but to do it. and yep, I was all on board.

We've got childhood friends that went separate ways in a hurry thanks to an ill-timed kiss...well, not so much ill-timed as perhaps the headspace of one wasn't in the right frame of mind, but I digress.  We've got a second chance at a first time romance that might happen, or might not happen, thanks to secrets littering the landscape of their past and present.  We've got sweet interactions, and moments that AGAIN make you say AWWW!  We've also got family connections, bullying assists (for teenagers AND adults!), and such a BIG dose of hometown spirit, you can't help but feel like one of this gorgeous community.  I laughed, I sighed (A LOT), I cringed, and hoped (so so SO much!), and by book's end, that happily ever after was in reach, if only they'd both step over their self drawn lines in the sand to grab on tight.  I loved Logan and Viv so very much, individually and for the potential they held as a couple.  I could feel the bonds of friendship they built from the ground up, could see the "something more" that developed once upon a time gain a new spark of life, and couldn't wait to see it come to fruition.  All the small moments along the way added up to a sweet romance readers won't be able to stay away from...at least, that's THIS reader's point of view.  💕

RRR presents... Miss Rose and the Vexing Viscount by Catherine Tinley - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

Pleased as punch to be a part of today's Rachel's Random Resources tour starring the latest release from author Catherine Tinley!  It's the start of a new TRILOGY featuring a trio of sisters, nay TRIPLETS, seeking their pasts while embracing their futures.  Guys, there is so much to love about this one, I'll try to keep it short, but you've been warned!  Ladies and gents, KEEP READING to check out my thoughts from between the pages, and score your chance to win in the tour wide giveaway!  Today's ebook of choice is...

Miss Rose and the Vexing Viscount
by
Catherine Tinley

About the book...
An unsuitable match for the viscount
And not just because she vexes him!

Bookworm Rose Lennox has no interest in making her debut. She’s only in London to discover the truth of her parentage. Her sponsor’s nephew, James, the Viscount Ashbourne, is equally cynical about the marriage mart, yet they still rile each other every time they speak! But the sparks of animosity soon become flames of attraction. Still, Rose’s unknown past means she can never be a viscount’s wife…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Getting to know the Lennox sisters was a treat!  They may look alike, but the plethora of similarities ends with their exteriors.  While the promised novels to come will give us the remaining two sisters'stories, we still get to know them all a wee bit, while the majority of the tale focuses on the youngest Belle...Rose.
I think Rose was the easiest to identify with for me, truth be told, though all three sisters were rather lovely inside and out. She was bookish, preferred to listen then form opinions, showed kindness where kindness was due, would help a soul in need even if it was four-legged and furry, and worried so much about her affect on others that she would do something that would break her own heart...but I'm not the only one she impressed.  Their host's nephew, James, a Viscount no less, seems rather taken with this particular sister for reasons he can't fully explain, yet makes perfect sense when everything is said and done.  It was a joy watching them slowly fall under the other's spell, though neither realized one was cast.  It was sweet, it was natural, it was everything for them both, and yet the ton would try to keep them apart.  Nice way to treat those that mean you no harm, right?  Right, and while saving your own skin may be the fashionable option, sometimes throwing prudence to the wind is truly all that's left to do.
A great start to a promising series, and a book that I'd highly recommend.  The story is intriguing, the characters near and dear to my heart, and the whole thing was just so much fun!  It's a wonderful addition to this author's body of works, and speaks volumes of her writing talent.  Historical Romance readers, do not pass this one up!
AWARENESS TOUR: Troubles and Doubles and Reflections Askew by Dr. Drew Palacio, Illustrated by Apolline Etienne - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!
The Curious Case of the Two Emily Soos
by
Dr. Drew Palacio
Illustrated by
Apolline Etienne
Ages 4+ | 36 Pages
9781958754368
Brandylane Publishers, Inc
About the book...
With a sigh, she went pacing before a large mirror that stood,
Remarking: “Ugh! I’m hideous! None of this looks very good!”
After struggling to find the perfect outfit, Emily Soo dances the night away at a fun party. But when she gets home, her inner voice Emily Two tries to put a damper on her evening.
Confronting our thoughts, fully facing tough emotions, and affirming ourselves can be difficult.
Can Emily Soo find it within herself to squash her Worry and Woe?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Emily Soo has a problem...but it's about to be multiplied by TWO.
What starts as a simple "what do I wear" uncertainty, blossoms into a potential confrontation with self doubt she wasn't prepared to deal with...or was she?

This is a great way to help kiddos remember that while that little voice inside of us is important, it doesn't rule us or make us who we are.  Everyone has insecurities, moments where they doubt themselves, and their decisions.  Everyone makes a choice they wish they did differently at times.  The thing to remember is that each day is a new beginning, another chance to get things right.  Will we be instantly bigger, better, stronger, smarter, or any of the other "er" options?  No...it comes with time, diligence, and understanding, but we can make better choices than the day before.  We can learn from our mistakes, and grow as a person one step at a time, one day at a time.  Emily Soo had a little help pulling herself back together thanks to some sage words from Worry and Woe, but it was up to her to put the clues together and let Emily TWO know who's boss.

The illustrations on this one are a little darker, but very fitting for the story.  It's tough finding your true voice in life, whatever age your "two" strikes you, and I can't say it's a one and done event either, but the color palette used here, along with the slightly sinister flair, and great shadows, really brought the whole idea into the visual spectrum.  Readers of all ages will get Emily's struggle, whether from the ease in understanding thanks to the images or from self identification, while appreciating the uplifting sentiments by story's end, and perhaps even sharing their own methods of rising above those downer voices in their own lives.

A great pick for parents with kiddos hitting those milestones in life, as well as for a classroom read to help kids through those tough moments when they are trying to find their own voice in a crowd.

AWARENESS TOUR: A Cloud in a Jar by Aaron Lewis Krol, Illustrated by Carlos Vélez Aguilera - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

Ahoy there mateys!
Welcome aboard today's grand adventure as we set sail with The Children's Book Review for their latest AWARENESS TOUR featuring a new release via Page Street Kids!  It's a storybook that begs the reader to think on their feet, act in the moment, and navigate with their heart...but I'm getting ahead of myself.  Steer thyself into port, and put down your anchor, as we welcome today's blog tour guest and ebook of choice...

About the book...
It’s just after midnight on Walton Wharf West, but there’s no time for sleeping―adventure awaits! Get dressed, grab your oars, let’s not delay. Lou Dozens is here, and we’re sailing to Firelight Bay!

In this modern, young, bold, and inventive adventure, Lou drags her more cautious friend on a daring voyage across the sea. Though their destination is a glorious land of year-round summers, long slides, and picnics a hundred yards wide, the children there have never seen rain, even once.

The mission is simple: bring Firelight Bay a cloud in a jar. But the journey is anything but. Readers will delight in the story’s twists, turns, and unexpected solutions―from a sail of patchwork handkerchiefs to a net crafted from recycled cell phone chargers that saves a beached whale. It’ll take every knick-knack in Lou’s pockets and all the cleverness the pair can muster to safely deliver their gift.

With captivating illustrations and whimsical yet delightfully intricate rhyming text reminiscent of classic children’s poetry, this seafaring quest is one young readers will not soon forget.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There now, we have the introductions completed, and we can get back to what I was saying!  😋  This is a book that begs the reader to think on their feet, act in the moment, and navigate with their heart.  The kiddos sailing the high seas aim to bring something to a land that it's never seen before...a cloud and all its possibilities to a sunny-every-day sort of place called Firelight Bay.  Living a life without a cloud in the sky, a thunderbolt to jump from, or a lightning strike to be startled by, sounds like the lap of luxury to those of us that seem to deal with those options more often than the sunny ones, BUT the variety keeps things interesting, and, let's face it, it's good for the environment whether we admit it or not.  The kiddos navigating through this course to their self-projected "X" that marks the spot have challenges ahead, but with a clear head about them, and their creativity flying free, they'll have no problem making their thoughtful gift a reality.
Little ones will get lost in the adventure, no doubt about it, and the colorful illustrations throughout just stoke the imagination like tinder to a campfire.  Little bit older readers will enjoy the chance to partake in the adventure and see things from a new angle, such as the makeshift net to help the whale friend in need.  Anything that sparks creative thinking is a welcome addition in my book because it takes all sorts of ideas to make this world go round!  Adult readers will gravitate towards the writing style, while enjoying the imagery that goes along with what they are reading aloud...assuming you ARE reading it aloud because yeah, it's that sort of book!
A great adventure for readers of all ages, and a great addition to story time, bed time, or really any time, because there's no bad time for a dose of creativity.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Aaron Lewis Krol lives with his family in Lowell, Massachusetts, where he writes about climate change science and solutions for the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative. Like many, his early education included many “invention challenges” where students were tasked with building structures from everyday materials, and he’s pretty sure that’s where the idea for Lou Dozens came from. A Cloud in a Jar is his first picture book.
ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR
Carlos Vélez Aguilera lived in the oceanside town of Puerto Vallarta for a time and drew from his memory of those beautiful landscapes and the sense of adventure they gave him while illustrating this book. He also poured in his general love of clouds, the sea, and whales. In addition to drawing, Carlos also likes to dance. He lives in Mexico City, Mexico, with his cat, Benito.
Twice Upon a Midnight
A Regency Cinderella Story
by Anna Harrington
Genre: Regency Romance
WHEN ONCE UPON A TIME…BECOMES TWICE UPON A MIDNIGHT
When Lady Elenora Darby returns to London, what better way for her parents to introduce her—and attract suitors—than to throw a masked ball? But Ella prefers poets to peers, and in the dark gardens, she encounters a man she knows nothing about…except that he loves poetry. Before she can learn his name, midnight strikes, and he vanishes, leaving behind only one clue to his identity—a glove embroidered with his initials.
As the Duke of Pensworth’s unwanted stepson, Spenser Rhodes has nothing to do with society…until he meets Ella. He knows they have no future. After all, the daughter of a duke deserves a peer, not a printer. Yet Ella is determined to find her masked man. As her search brings them closer, more than society is keeping them apart—so is Spenser’s half brother Simon, who wants Ella for himself.
Spenser Rhodes forges an invitation to the Duke of Durham’s ball because he’s tired of being excluded from society. But when he’s found out, he has no choice but to leave—quickly—through the rear gardens, where he runs—literally—into the most alluring woman he’s ever met, one whose soul is as poetic as his and whose identity is just as unknown…
“You are beautiful, Ella,” Spenser murmured and smoothed both his hands over her cheeks until he cupped her face between his palms. “So very special.” He lowered his mouth and murmured against her lips, “You have no idea how much.”
This time when he kissed her, there was no teasing, no hesitation. He captured her mouth possessively beneath his, and when she opened to him, he slid his tongue wickedly inside to claim all of her kiss. Her slender arms snaked up to encircle his neck, and her soft body pressed into his in a silent plea to increase the intimacy of their embrace. He did exactly that by sliding his tongue over hers in wanton encouragement to do the same to him, and when she did, his heart nearly soared out of his chest.
Until it came crashing down when she whispered, “Spenser…”
The name she thought was as false as his mask. But he could never tell her his true identity. She would have laughed, and the sound would have simply killed him.
With his eyes screwed shut, he broke the embrace. He rested his forehead against hers while he caught back the breath she’d stolen, while he tamped down his attraction for her which had him wanting to do anything but stop kissing her.
“You need to go back inside now,” he said quietly. And he needed to find his way back to his normal life, one that didn’t include intelligent, beautiful women like Ella.
She stepped back. “I don’t want to.”
“I’m sure you’re being missed.”
At that dismissal, the wounded look on her face nearly undid him. “Do you regret spending time with me?”
“No.” God no.
“Kissing me, then?”
“Absolutely not.”
“Then why—”
A loud boom reverberated through the park beyond the stone wall beside them, followed by a bright burst of red. Around them, the garden suddenly came to life with showers of sparks arching up in fountains of red and blue flames. Cheers went up from the guests who spilled out onto the terrace and down onto the lawn to watch the display.
“It’s midnight,” she explained, looking high into the sky as rockets roared overhead to strains of “Rule Britannia” played by the orchestra. Then she gave him a look somewhere between uncertainty and anticipation. “Time to remove our masks.”
Time to pay the piper… He drew a deep breath. “Ella, I need to ex—”
“There! There he is!”
The light of the bursting fireworks had lit the shadows around them and revealed them to the butler and a footman. The angry butler pointed at Spenser, and the footman charged toward him across the garden.
“My lord!” the butler shouted. “I must speak with you regarding your invitation!”
Spenser blew out a low curse. He gave her a last, longing look, then said sadly, “Goodbye, Ella.”
“Don’t go,” she protested, reaching for his arm. “You can—”
He placed a quick kiss to her lips, then turned and leapt over the wall into the park. He had to leave. Now. The last way he wanted her to remember him was as an uninvited trespasser being dragged out of the party. A fraud. A man led away in disgrace. Or worse—the unwanted stepson of the Duke of Pensworth.
As he dropped into the darkness beyond the garden wall, he caught a last glimpse of her bending down to pick up his dropped glove.
RRR presents... Take Me Home by Beth Moran - REVIEW!
Time to say hello to another Boldwood Books release on tour with Rachel's Random Resources! You've seen this author's work before, out in the wild and right here in my site, and this title does not disappoint. Ladies and gents, let's take a closer look at today's blog tour guest and ebook of choice...
Take Me Home
by
Beth Moran
Boldwood Books
About the book...
Sophie Potter’s job is helping people deal with the worst, because Sophie Potter knows what the worst feels like.
An expert at keeping moving, with her trusty motorhome and faithful dog Muffin, Sophie has built her life around keeping her loves and loyalties as few as possible.
Fabulous fifty-something Hattie Langford has kept her heart and past safely stored away too. But for reasons she’s only willing to share with a stranger, Hattie needs to tell the story her family has been hiding at Riverbend, their home in Sherwood Forest. There is a history of heartbreak and hurt that Hattie is ready to face.
As Sophie helps Hattie uncover the secrets of generations of women who have lived at Riverbend, along with the stories of the men they have loved and lost, they start to see echoes in their own pasts. And as Riverbend shares its biggest secret of all, can Hattie and Sophie finally embrace the lives they’ve put on hold for so long, and risk their hearts to men who can break the Riverbend curse?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hattie was a woman of two worlds, quite literally, who needed help sorting her past, ordering her present, and perhaps settling her future. Sophie was the kindhearted soul with a business plan to do just that for grieving families (something I could never imagine doing for a living, but by goodness is necessary, needed, and appreciated tenfold). She'd never worked on this side of loss, the still living side, but this job would be unlike any other she's taken in many more ways than the obvious one. There are many rewards to be reaped in life, those of the heart being among the biggest, but if we're unwilling to open ourselves to the possibilities, take chances, and practice forgiveness... how will we ever accept that goodness for ourselves?

I loved the vibrancy of Hattie. I can't say I didn't guess what was happening with her to some degree, but it didn't matter. She was a force to be reckoned with and definitely had a "Goonie" state of mind (hopefully you're of an age to get the reference 😉). When her time came (not in the way you're necessarily thinking!), I couldn't help but celebrate on her behalf.  Sophie was very dear to my heart. Like I said before, I couldn't do the job she did, but can definitely appreciate the help, the closure, the shoulder to lean on in a time when nothing seems stable that she would have provided. Learning about her past helped us understand her better, truly see her for the bruised heart she carried, and respect her all the more for it. As she worked her way through that tangle of emotions, you couldn't help but feel proud of the progress she made, and hope against hope for that tangible future you could see just out of reach.

A touching story about living life with no regrets, or at least settling them up before life settles up with you. It reminds us to follow our hearts, seek out our dreams, and grab onto love whenever we find it. Make the most of the moments, and you'll have more than memories to last a lifetime.
