STORYBOOK SUNDAY: School's Out for Summer!

HI guys and gals!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

We're celebrating another day of bookish fun with Storybook Sunday! For those not up to speed on the post, I read a lot of great storybooks and thought, why not give them their own day in the sun. Hence, Storybook Sunday! Feel free to join the fun and create a post on your own site with the same name. I'd love to see any linked up in the comments! Anywho...back to the matter at hand.

Today, we're celebrating the arrival of TWO new storybook releases via Disney Hyperion.  Despite the fact that most kiddos have bid farewell to the hallowed halls of learning for the summer, Fall will arrive sooner than they think and with it, the new school year.  Yep.  It's inevitable, at least until the adult years are in full swing and even then, learning still happens on a daily basis, just outside the classroom setting.  Ah, those were the days.  I was the kid that loved going back to school.  It wasn't for recess, or to catch up with old friends, it was purely for the learning...and the new school supplies.  (LOVE THEM!  STILL DO!)  Anyway, today's first book tackles that trepidation some feel at the turn of the season and why they should push it aside to join the masses, while the second title reminds us that sometimes the soundest advice comes from the most unlikely of places.  Ready or not, here come our books of choice...

A tale of summer's end,
Shared in rhyme and meter;
That reminds us all,
Interest in school can peter.
From child to child,
Different levels are seen;
Many times over,
I'm not being mean!

It's a simple statement,
A matter of fact;
Not everyone learns
With the same tact(ics).
That's why we consider,
The subjects at hand;
And remind little learners,
They're numerous like sand.

Science and math
History and Spelling,
Library time...
...and recess for yelling.
Let's not forget
Those added affairs;
Like music, sports,
And fundraising fairs!

There's much to learn
Yes, it is true;
But you WILL find something,
That inspires you.
So give it a shot,
Come on, let's go!
For you, the learner...
Are the star of this show.

Added note...in addition to the story and rhyme, I loved the illustrations!  The crisp Fall colors got me in the mood for leaves turning, cooler temps (though none are in sight here in FL at the moment), and rerouting my trip to work to avoid all the school zones.  (Hey, I have to adult now...and traffic can pile up!)  A great add to your end of summer reading list!

What begins as a class lesson in evolution and change, becomes a big BIG problem!  Once upon a time, there was a group of kiddos led by the one and only, Mr. Stricter.  He wasn't like his name sounds though...he was one of the cool teachers.  He did EXPERIMENTS and everyone knows those are always FUN!  Well, this one takes a turn for the worst after their eggs hatch, grow into tadpoles, and are released into the wild...expect one.  Little Bruno...but not so little for long, and just what a ginormous problem he grow into, you won't believe!  The real problem though...Mr. Stricter is so caught up in the joys of having a pet, he can't see the frog for the hippo in the room.  (That will make sense when you read it....)  Can his class help him see the light without smashing his pet owning dreams to smithereens?  Only one way to find out....

While definitely an adventure, there is a heavy dose of imagination and fantastical-ness used here because really...I'm pretty sure that's how the particular pet they end up with actually comes to life.  Just sayin'.  Still, the trouble that follows will have kiddos in stitches as Little Bruno outgrows his name, his bowl, the room, and then some....and let's just say that Mr. Stricter will eventually see the light, even if it is snot crusted (eeww!).  A fun read for school days (or not) and a great way to explain why Suzy can't have a pony when you live in an apartment.
