About the book...

Money can buy her marriage...
But will it lead to love?

Miss Lily Wilkins hopes her American money will compensate for her lack of etiquette, as she needs a prestigious marriage to save her sisters’ prospects. Raised to believe wealth was her greatest attribute, she’s stunned when her unconventional ways catch the eye of the notorious Duke of Lennox. He’s far from the safe, sensible match she’d planned on—but Lily might just discover he’s the one she needs!

American heiress she may be, but she leads with all her heart.

Ms. Lily captures you right from the start.  She desires to make her parents happy.  She wants to be a good daughter and provide security for the family, including her younger sisters.  She is willing to put her own desires aside to perhaps gain some freedom from the "prison" her mother holds the key to, while also affording that same freedom and then some to her younger siblings.  She hopes that a union with the right man will benefit them all...but in her heart of hearts, she holds on to the hope, however small, that she too can find some modicum of happiness...even perhaps, love.  Fanciful thoughts for a younger girl just coming out to society?  Not necessarily...not with the right man, nay right Duke at her side...

Enter one, Duke of Lennox...or as she first is introduced however informally to him...Aidan.  He makes her feel things she's never experienced.  His history is sorted, filled with some scandal, and a whole world of adventure, but he seems so genuine in her presence...so unlike the image of a duke that she had built in her mind's eye.  He brings unexpected sunlight to her world, allowing her to experience some of that freedom she so craves, and yet even with their stolen moments, that fear of their desires not being one and the same, that their union is fueled by money versus love, exists.  Once something like that takes hold, it's dastardly to dislodge, and the murmurings of the ton do nothing to squelch it.  Would they be a match made in heaven?  Or would they be simply a means to an end for each other as they live their days tied together, but apart?

I, for one, was rooting for them the whole time!  From the moment they met behind the palm leaves in the ballroom to that glorious ride in the rain (*swoon*), you can't help but gaze longingly at the page for a happy ending for them.  True, there are obstacles, beyond the fact of how to reveal the other's true feelings in lieu of their bank account, such as the elder Duchess, controlling parents, gossip mongers, former flames, and those competing for their own futures...but anything worth having, anything worth achieving has always been worth the effort.

Highly recommended for Historical Romance fans who like their stories filled with heart and lead by characters that are worthy on their own, but so much more together!

About the author...

Amanda wrote her first romance at the age of sixteen--a vast historical epic starring all her friends as the characters, written secretly during algebra class (and her parents wondered why math was not her strongest subject...).

She's never since used algebra, but her books have been nominated for many awards, including the RITA Award, the Romantic Times BOOKReviews Reviewers' Choice Award, the Booksellers Best, the National Readers Choice Award, and the Holt Medallion.  She lives in Santa Fe with a Poodle, a cat, a wonderful husband, and a very and far too many books and royal memorabilia collections.
When not writing or reading, she loves taking dance classes, collecting cheesy travel souvenirs, and watching the Food Network--even though she doesn't cook.
