RRR presents... A Wedding at Heatherly Hall by Julie Houston - COVER REVEAL!

SUPER EXCITED to be sharing a COVER REVEAL with you via Rachel's Random Resources! It's a release with a GORGEOUS cover that just brings on the Spring vibes, and as it comes out in 5 months, you've got plenty of time to clear a spot on your calendar!  Ladies and gents, feast your eyes on today's big reveal...

A Wedding at Heatherly Hall
by
Julie Houston
Publication Date – 29th February 2024

About the book...
Romantic entanglements, A-list weddings and missing diamonds... it's going to be a busy spring in Westenbury!

Sisters Hannah, Rosa, and Eva are on a mission to sustain picturesque Heatherly Hall, in Yorkshire's Westenbury village. So when they hear the legend of the Jet Set – a necklace with a rare diamond, commissioned by royalty and hidden in their hall – they plan a fundraiser: an Agatha-Christie style am-dram production and treasure hunt.

As if that weren't enough, music superstar Drew Livingston and Bollywood legend Aditi Sharma have chosen their hall for a wedding in just six weeks' time, and the pressure is mounting to pull off the wedding of the decade.

Staging the play, unravelling the mystery of the diamond, and meeting the demands of an A-list bride and groom without their lives unravelling seems impossible. But these three sisters know that with family by your side, anything can be overcome...

Perfect for fans of Katie Fforde, Jill Mansell, and anyone who loves a warm and witty romance with a dash of intrigue.

About the author...

Julie Houston lives in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire where her novels are set, and her only claims to fame are that she teaches part-time at Bridget Jones’ author Helen Fielding’s old junior school and her neighbour is Chocolat author, Joanne Harris. After University, where she studied Education and English Literature, she taught for many years as a junior school teacher. She now teaches just two days a week, and still loves the buzz of teaching junior-aged children. She has been a magistrate for the past nineteen years, and, when not distracted by Ebay, Twitter and Ancestry, spends her time writing. Julie is married, has a twenty-four-year-old son and twenty-one-year-old daughter and a ridiculous Cockerpoo called Lincoln. She runs and swims because she’s been told it’s good for her, but would really prefer a glass of wine, a sun lounger and a jolly good book - preferably with Matthew McConaughey in attendance.

AWARENESS TOUR: Saving the Sun by Emma Pearl - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

Today's the day we get excited, and pumped up! It's time we remember to celebrate Mother earth and all the fun that sunshiney weather can bring... but what if the sunshine decided to take a different path. What would happen if it came down from the sky? Ladies and gents, time to join an AWARENESS TOUR already in progress with The Children's Book Review and today's featured title...

About the book...
 After an especially sweltering day, the ocean sparkles and twinkles so invitingly that instead of slipping beneath the horizon, the sun plunges into the ocean itself.

When the sun sinks and loses its fire, Luna and Poppa’s yearly vacation on Summer Island suddenly goes dark. Luna knows the sun needs their help―the sky looks all wrong, and it’s neither day nor night! But it’s a big job to do all on their own.

To bring back daylight, they must think of creative solutions, seeking help from the local dolphins, monkeys, birds, and more. With the power of teamwork and imagination, can they find a way to return the sun to its rightful place, and set it ablaze once more?

This imaginative tale will enchant readers as Luna, Poppa, and their new friends of the sea, beach, and air rise to the challenge of fixing the sky once more and―literally―save the day.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This wondrous story is filled to the brim with imagination, and bursting at the seams with creativity. Each full color spread pulls us into the story about the day the sun decided a dip would be better than setting properly.
Yes, that's right, my friends. The sun decided to do something out of the ordinary throwing everyone and everything into chaos. Good thing a little girl was paying attention to its comings and goings because the longer it stays where it doesn't belong, the bigger, and more widespread the effects. With the help of some new friends, Luna, and Poppa are determined to restore order, and stand every chance of accomplishing their goals, after all there's no task too big that can't be made lighter by more hands.
A great Picture Book that teaches kiddos to respect the world around them, never give up on their goals, and always look to the future!
RRR presents... Match Me If You Can by Sandy Barker - REVIEW!
Time for another Rachel's Random Resources tour that's gonna add to your TBR!  Today's featured title is a Contemporary Romance with a little bit of Romcom to spare, plus the grumpy/sunshine trope to boot!  Curious?  You should be, and I'm here to bring you a peek between the pages.  Ready or not, here comes today's blog tour guest and ebook of choice...
Match Me If You Can
by
Sandy Barker
About the book...
Welcome to the Ever After Agency – a clandestine organisation offering bespoke solutions to romantic problems.
Whether you're looking for the love of your life, a fresh romantic start, or just want to keep up appearances, the agency can tailor a solution to meet your needs.
When Tristan Fellows walks into the agency, Poppy Dean knows she's in for a challenge. A typical bachelor, Tristan has no intention of falling in love, but in order to receive his 30-million-pound inheritance, he must find himself a wife before his 35th birthday.
This may be Poppy’s hardest case yet, but even the most arrogant of men can sometimes warm a woman’s heart…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

From the great title/cover combo to the name of the matchmaking agency, I was in insta-love!  The "problem" at the center of the story presented SO MANY moments for meet cute fun, and yet the one that stuck was the first and most meaningful.  I was prepared to adore Poppy, after all, her job alone screams romantic soul, but she was also genuinely kind, caring, and a truly good human being.  That's not easy to find nowadays and a great match for her client, though she can't actually be with said client.  Tristan, on the other hand, I was prepared to be indifferent to because, let's face it, he's OBVIOUSLY the grumpy part of the equation, and he's only getting married to secure an inheritance...HOWEVER, the more we get to know him, the more we come to understand him, and even like him.  Yep, I said it.  You can't help but end up liking him, even if he does tend to cast a cloud over our ray of sunshine, Poppy...but together, they would make the perfect forecast!

Okay, even I'M laughing at my turn of phrase there, but it's true!  They balance each other out perfectly, even when they are trying to ignore the sparks flying between them.  Kind of hard when you're working on such a personal matter, but there you have it.  They valiantly try, and it really seems like all is lost, but then, just when you think it's the end...there's one more moment that just makes the magic happen!  If they weren't endeared to you before, that final gesture, that big act, really gets you right where it counts, and leaves you with a smile on your face, and a happy heart.

A great pick for Romance fans that love Contemporary stories filled with all the things we adore about the genre and a guaranteed HEA, even if it isn't the one that was intended!

BOOK BIRTHDAY WEEK Kid Lit Celebration!

What can I say?
I read A LOT.
I review A LOT.
I...sometimes run out of time (or mental energy!) to post everything in one day, but who doesn't want to extend the celebration? Am I right? 😉  Hence today's BOOK BIRTHDAY WEEK celebration post! We're doing it up KID LIT style with not one, but TWO titles that hit bookstore and virtual shelves this week, and I'm here to give you a bit of inside scoop!  In no particular order because they are equally amazing their own rights, make room on your TBR for today's featured titles...

Quest Kids, Book 2
by

Union Square Kids

The Quest Kids are BACK and better than ever...or at least they will be once they get a grip on everything that's going down, especially this creepy, larger than life baby that is really giving them all pause when it comes to a fight!  But I digress...

When we last left this motley crew, they were still riding the high of finishing their first quest, but well on their way to starting their next.  You see, Ned's parents are MISSING, and while that's doom and gloomy enough, there's more spreading throughout the land, and someone needs to put a stop to it...or several someone's.  When you find out the who, what, why, and eventually where, you'll be perplexed, slightly confused, and maybe a little in awe as to the point of it all (especially surfing 🏄‍♂️ a wave of fire 🔥... sounds more like a human barbecue moment to me!), yet you still be in for a reading adventure filled with... well adventure, but also heart, friendship, revelations, and new mysteries to keep this quest group going for ages!

Like mysteries?
What about secret passages?
How about time honored traditions dating oh-so-far back in a place known for adults setting the rules, but this time, they have everything to do with the kiddos rules?
Thought that might grab your attention. 😉

The young ladies in this book,  Marissa and Clara, aren't bad kids, they're just not completely in love with their new lifestyle. I mean, taking a full entourage just to go to and from school? Climbing a tree with not a concerned parent looking on, but a security detail? See what I mean? So yeah, the life and times of the children in that great big house colored white, aren't exactly what you might imagine at times, but it doesn't mean it CAN'T be... 😏

All it takes is one secret panel opening, a slide down into a mysterious oval-shaped darkness, and signing your name on a parchment that's seen better days (or better yet, centuries!) to take things from ho-hum to what in the year 1905?! Explorations commence, a secret group that's not a secret amongst themselves is revealed, as is the task they need to complete in order to get back home! Trust me though, it's gonna take some intuition, investigation, and a lot of teamwork to get the job done... once they figure out WHAT exactly it is... but the rewards are more than just, as is the potential homecoming.

A great ride through history from a viewpoint that oftentimes gets overlooked with a message of never giving up the good fight!

The Hybrid Magic Chronicles Book 3

by Cristy L. Bowlin

Genre: YA Fantasy

Amid new threats and unsettling discoveries, hope still perseveres.

Aaron is done letting the Defenders control his life. He refuses to continue running and hiding. The Defenders claim that hybrid mages are dangerous abominations, but Aaron and Lilith are determined to prove otherwise. Meanwhile, Elara and Theo are grappling with formidable new abilities that they never expected to possess. Striking out on their own, Aaron and his friends discover another group of hybrid mages living in the desert who are preparing to fight. New alliances are forged, yet not everyone agrees on how to confront the Defenders. When more people see what hybrid magic can do, it could either be revered or feared even more. Aaron and his friends must make some tough decisions before those choices are taken from them.

-*-*-*  CHAPTER ONE  *-*-*-

Theo was the last to enter the tavern, hanging back as they had agreed. Pipe smoke permeated throughout the open dining area and mingled with the scents of alcohol and sweat. Theo stood next to the wall, trying not to cough, while his friends walked to the bar. Elara bought a drink and sat on a stool. Aaron and Lilith continued walking until they reached a piano in the corner of the room.

Theo furrowed his brow when Aaron took a seat on the piano bench and started playing. He didn’t realize Aaron knew how to play an instrument. However, Theo’s jaw nearly dropped open when Lilith started singing. Her voice was a melodic soprano reminiscent of birdsong. It shouldn’t have surprised Theo, yet he stood there awestruck at the performance. He soon realized he wasn’t the only one in awe. The whole room quieted as people turned their attention to Aaron and Lilith. This wasn’t part of the plan they discussed, but it would set the stage for Lilith’s speech.

When Lilith finished singing, everyone in the room applauded as if they were at a concert hall rather than a tavern. Lilith dipped into a curtsy as Aaron played the final chords in the song. Then Lilith stood on top of the piano bench and cleared her throat. “Thank you all for listening to our song.”

“Play another one!” someone shouted.

Lilith smiled. “We would be happy to, but first my friend and I have something to tell you all.”

Elara made eye contact with Theo across the room. She looked nervous, and Theo imagined he wore a similar expression on his face. He wanted to be there beside Lilith and Aaron in case anything bad happened, but they insisted that they had to introduce themselves first on their own. As the youngest and smallest among them, Lilith was the least threatening and most likely to garner sympathy. And with Aaron’s fame, people would quickly recognize his name if not his appearance, so he would be of the most interest. Elara and Theo could be introduced a bit later if the crowd reacted positively to the presence of hybrid mages. If not, Elara and Theo could remain anonymous and cause some type of distraction, allowing Aaron and Lilith to slip out of the building.

“My name is Lilith Brouning, and this is my good friend Aaron Ztrong. We are both hybrid mages.” She paused as people started murmuring amongst themselves, and then she held up the Defender pamphlet Aaron grabbed earlier. “Some people like to call us dark mages. I’m sure you are all familiar with the Defenders of the True Four. Maybe some of you have even read their pamphlets and agreed with some of the things they had to say. But I’m here to tell you the ugly truth about them. They tried to kill Aaron, and they succeeded in murdering my parents. They would get rid of every last hybrid mage if they could.

“I understand why they have their concerns about us because Florella Jacobsen was a hybrid mage, and she did unspeakable things during the Jacobsen Conflict. She was responsible for far more deaths than the Defenders, but now she herself is dead. She will cause no more harm to any of us, and I can promise you that Aaron and I are nothing like her.”

Aaron stood up next to Lilith. He gestured to the piano behind them. “We enjoy the same pastimes as all of you. We have families we care about deeply. We make mistakes sometimes, but that’s part of what makes us human. All we want is to be able to live our lives without constant fear of being hunted down.”

“That’s why we are here today,” Lilith said. “We’ve been hiding ourselves away for more than a year, and we simply cannot do it anymore. How free has the Deravine Commonwealth really become if there are still some mages who can’t be true to themselves?”

A few hisses rose up from the crowd as people cursed the commonwealth, but twice as many people shushed the critics. When the room quieted again, Lilith held up her hands in a placating gesture. “Politics aside, I hope we all can agree that what the Defenders have been doing is outright persecution. Their crusade must come to an end. I hope the next time you see one of these pamphlets, you will tear it down and throw it away.” She crumpled the pamphlet in her hand and threw it on the ground. Some people clapped, which Theo considered a small victory at least.

A man and woman abruptly stood, scraping their chairs across the wood floor. “That’s a nice speech, to be sure,” the woman said, “but actions speak louder than words. We know you fought alongside Florella the day she died.”

Lilith scowled. “We were fighting for our own lives because a group of Defenders attacked us. Florella happened to be with us because we had captured her.”

“So you say,” the man mumbled. “Doesn’t mean we can trust your word for it.” He raised both his hands and threw balls of fire directly at Lilith and Aaron.

RRR presents... The Highlander's Unexpected Bride by Nicole Locke - REVIEW!

We heading across the pond to Scotland as we step into the past to experience love in another time with today's Rachel's Random Resources tour!  It's the latest release from author Nicole Locke and one of the few Highlander Romances I partake of...and this one was a doozy!  Ready or not, fair readers, here comes today's blog tour guest and ebook of choice...

Highlander's Unexpected Bride
by
Nicole Locke
Harlequin Books  |  Mills & Boon

About the book...
Escape to Medieval Scotland, where a Highlander searches for a bride…

Is the wife the Highlander seeks
…already by his side?

Back from battle, Hamilton of Clan Graham makes a bet with his brother to find a wife by summer’s end. So, the Scottish warrior enlists the help of his childhood friend, Beileag, to help him woo his perfect woman. But like Hamilton, Beileag has changed whilst he’s been away…and she intrigues him like never before! His focus should be on winning a bride. Yet why is Beileag all he can think about?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is actually BOOK TWO in a mini series, the first of which I also reviewed once upon a time, but let me set your worries to right, it stands perfectly fine on its own.  I personally think a separation between reading the two is a good thing because the story is VERY intertwined with the first, as in it takes place at the same time.  It's like watching a movie from another character's point of view.  You have those overlapping moments that are still the same, you have others that give a fresh perspective on the shared situation, and then you have more still that are events transpiring behind the scenes of the first story, shared with fully focused enthusiasm in the here and now.  Confused?  Don't be...it's all rather simple, but the feelings these two share are anything but!
She was a girl that was always there, but in the background.  She never drew attention to herself because she had too much of that in her own family with tragic results.  Instead of the limelight, she became a good listener, and cultivated her dreams close to her heart...but what good are dreams if one never pursues them, much like wishes that are never shared?  He was the mischievous half of a set of twin brothers, the first story having focused on the other twin, and now if his time...if only he can get the object of his affections straightened out.  He never shied from attention, but now he's finding the attention he craves is from the one person not bestowing it...or so he thinks.  A nudge in the right direction has his head on straight and his heart on fire for a person, for things, for dreams he never imagined pursuing, until now, and from someone he never truly noticed in full, but is all too aware of in the present.
Watching these two dance around each other was at times comical, while at others rather heated, but you couldn't help but wish them all the happiness in the world.  The realizations that come along the way, the acceptance of their true selves by both themselves and each other, the quiet shared moments, and those filled with teasing glances, and "explorations", all added up to a delightful read from start to finish.  It's a great addition to the series, as well as a wonderful way to wile away an Autumn afternoon, so Historical Romance fans, take note!
RRR presents... SISTERS AT WAR by Jina Bacarr - REVIEW!
Time to dive into the past to take another look at History that isn't always made clear.  Today's Rachel's Random Resources tour features the latest from author Jina Bacarr, and places us in the front seat of a war machine marching all over people, and places, causing destruction and heartache, but never truly diminishing HOPE.  Ladies and gents, fair warning...this one can be hard to read at times due to the nature of the story, and although it is a fictional work, things like this happened, much to our dismay.  Now on deck, today's ebook of choice and blog tour guest...
Sisters at War
by
Jina Bacarr
Boldwood Books
About the book...
Paris, 1940: Two sisters separated by the Nazis… After a devastating attack, Justine and Eve Beaufort find themselves on opposite sides of the war, both in their beloved Paris. But can they ever find their way back to each other?
It was the day that changed everything. When the Nazis came and broke into our home. Destroyed everything that was safe for us. They took our home and our security. I thought it couldn’t get worse. But then they also took my sister.
After that day nothing was the same again. I thought I’d never see her again. I thought she was lost to me forever. I joined the Resistance, vowing to fight against the evil German army with every last spark of fire in my body.
I know what I have to do. And nothing can stop me.
Until I catch a glimpse of a woman who looks just like my sister. Alive. But this is not the sweet darling girl I once knew. This is a platinum blonde happily conversing with a terrifying Gestapo officer. No longer my sister. But a traitor.
And I know what I must do…
Could you choose your country – and what is right – over the person you once loved more than anyone in the world?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Right from the start, you could feel the connection between Eve and Justine.  They were sisters through and through, no matter what anyone might say.  They picked at each other, played with each other, cared for one another, and as they grew up, despite their interests veering in different directions, they still made time for one another, and could always count on the other to have their back.  One such time this came into play was the start of a nightmare for both girls...and although it could have surely ended then and there, their desire to live, their desire to protect each other and their family was so great that the unspeakable became the endurable, for the sake of family.

My heart was ripped open from that very moment things progressed so darkly, so violently.  If I could have hugged these two girls through the pages, I would have...and if I could have put an end to their suffering, you bet I wouldn't have hesitated there either.  I'm not a violent person, but surely keeping evil from spreading like the poison it is allows a little bit of leeway?  But I digress...Eve had Justine, and while she took on the heavy role inadvertently handed to her that would get heavier as the years passed, it didn't mean that Eve's journey was any less difficult.  Different hardships, different choices, but in their heart of hearts they still felt the same....family mattered.  They weren't disposable, but the greater good mattered.  Whether it be keeping family safe, protecting a new life, shielding an old one providing aid, or turning a loved one against you to keep them away from harm, it all boiled down it family bonds, and the love shared between them...something the enemy truly knew nothing about.

A great pick for adult readers of Historical Fiction who don't mind becoming emotionally attached to a story and/or its characters...I know I sure don't!  While this book doesn't tie things up nice and neat by story's end, it does give satisfaction throughout, and promises more still to come.
