"A whimsical twist on a classic fairy tale with plenty of twists, turns, and sass for early chapter readers.” – Kirkus Reviews

RED ALERT FOR FAIRY TALE LAND: Sylvia Locke is out and ready to cause mischief.

Once upon a time in Fairy Tale Land, there lived a very bad girl indeed. Sylvia Locke may have been abandoned by her adventuring parents but that’s no excuse for being mean to her loving grandparents, rude to everyone at school, and even bullying rare magical creatures. Right?

One day, when out on a break-and-enter job at the Bear family’s house, Sylvia happens upon a magical mirror that turns out to be more than she bargained for. Could even a kid like Sylvia find a friend? Could some warm and fuzzies change her heart?

The first book in Tairy Fails, a modern fractured fairy tale humor series that will have elementary school kids and early chapter book readers screaming with laughter.

Reviews:

"Will wow middle grade readers—and transform them into instant devotees of the next in the series.'" - BookLife Reviews

"Original action and humor at their best . . . highly recommended for elementary chapter book readers seeking a fresh, original voice and novel atmosphere in their fantasy reading." - Midwest Book Review

"Will have readers doubled over with laughter as they follow one very bad girl, Sylvia Locke . . . This is a gem of a magical story that will enchant young readers." - ReadersFavorite (5 Star Review)

"Families will love the comedic spin the chapter book takes on a classic fairytale. It deserves more than five stars! I'll be on the lookout for book two in the Tairy Fails series, and I know once your family and class read this story, they will be, too." - Superkambrook (Kam's Place)

"The perfect story of the pains of a growing teen, with characters based on those we all know and love." - ReadersFavorite (5 Star Review)

"David's wonderful modern fairy tale will engage young readers and make their parents smile." - ReadersFavorite (5 Star Review)

I love the nod to fairytales we know and love, yet the twists afforded throughout. So, yes, they have recognizable features, but the overall tale is new and curious!

Sylvia Locke is an interesting character, as is her situation, but her single mindedness regarding Cookie Crispies 🍪  takes the cake...err, cookie. She's bound and determined to have her sugary cereal goodness, eat it too, and not have to serve it herself. Well, she sorta gets her wish... eventually, after several adventures in criminal activity, bad choices in general, and unexpected friendships.  That's right. Good can happen even if you are rumored to be cursed. 😨 Never fear, the Wizard of FLOSZ wouldn't steer us wrong, so while there is adventure to be had, there are also lessons to be learned, aside from the obvious one of breaking and entering still being wrong!

Whether you're a fan of fairytales, love a good redo, or simply enjoy time in a faraway land with a cast you'll remember, and an outcome you won't see coming, this is the tale for you!

AWARENESS TOUR: Mama's Love Language by Elisa Stad, Illustrated by Ry Menson - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

It's almost that time of May where we celebrate all the mom's out there for everything they do, say, and all the love they show in the smallest of ways, and today's AWARENESS TOUR with The Children's Book Review is right on target.  It's all about that special love and how the form can vary, but the meaning is just as tender, just as special, just as meaningful.  Ladies and gents, kiddos of all ages, let's get between the pages of today's blog tour guest and book of choice...

by

About the book...
Jade is a girl who lives in two worlds and, coming from a multicultural family, she’s on a quest to understand her identity and where she truly belongs.

She is trying to find her place in the world but feels different from the other kids at school. Back home, Jade’s parents have their unique approach to love and care. Sometimes Jade is embarrassed by Mama’s accent and she can’t understand why she is not just like any other mother she knows.

The real adventure unfolds when Jade starts rebelling against her mother’s traditional ways of showing love, especially through food. It’s a struggle that takes her on a path of discovery, as she learns about her family’s rich heritage and her mother’s challenging past in Vietnam and as an immigrant.

Jade then discovers that even though Mama doesn’t hug or say I love you, the healing aroma of ginger, green onions, and chicken broth does.

“Mama’s Love Language” is a heartwarming children’s book that addresses the universal theme of belonging and the beauty of cultural diversity. Through Jade’s story, children will learn that being different is not only okay but something to be celebrated, and that love can come in many shapes and forms.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Little Jade was a special girl.  She had two parents that loved her.  She had friends that cared about her.  She had a teacher that loved teaching her entire class.  Beyond the surface elements, she also had two cultures from which to draw her individuality from.  Can that be hard to understand and accept at a young age?  Absolutely...but the more we hear/see/feel the message that different is not wrong but perfect, the more we open ourselves to it both for us and the world.  For Jade, it wasn't just about physical appearance, but also how she interacted with her parents.  Cultural differences aren't just in the shade of our skin, or the shape of our eyes, but in how we relate to others, and that includes our loved ones.  It was touching to see that area explored between Jade and her parents.  When the hard truths behind some of her mother's opinions were shared, we not only understood her better for it, but felt that heaviness in our own hearts because we knew it shouldn't have been that way.  No one should have to go through uncertainty as to where their next meal is coming from, nor have to grow up too fast in order for a family to survive.  Hard times do not always create hard hearts, but it can make them cautious because they learned from those experiences, and want more for their own futures, and those they love.
This was a beautifully illustrated story sharing the love of a family with backgrounds that span the globe.  It reminds us that we're all special in our own ways, and that which makes us different shouldn't be hidden, but celebrated.  It's okay to want what others do, but don't let that desire eclipse the truth that is you because that's someone worthy of notice.
RRR presents... The French Cookery School by Caroline James - REVIEW!
Second chances come in all shapes, sizes, and when we least expect them, as this motley crew is about to find out first hand! Ladies and gents join me as we check out the latest from author Caroline James, on tour now with Rachel's Random Resources...
The French Cookery School
by
Caroline James
About the book...
Mix together a group of mature students:
A culinary Sloane, a take-away cook and a food journalist.
Add in:
A handsome host
Season with:
A celebrity chef
Bring to the boil:
At a luxurious cookery school in France!
Waltho Williams has no idea what he’s letting himself in for when he opens the doors of La Maison du Paradis, his beautiful French home. But with dwindling funds, a cookery school seems like the ideal business plan.
Running away from an impending divorce, super-snob Caroline Carrington hopes a luxurious cookery holiday will put her back on her feet. Blackpool fish and chip café owner Fran Cartwright thinks she’s won the lottery when her husband Sid books her on a week working alongside a celebrity chef. Meanwhile, feeling she is fading at fifty, journalist Sally Parker-Brown hopes her press week covering the cookery course will enable her to boost her career.
But will the eclectic group be a recipe for success, or will the mismatched relationships sink like a souffle?
Whip out an apron, grab a wooden spoon and take a culinary trip to La Maison du Paradis, then sit back and enjoy The French Cookery School!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Prepare for the full French experience filled with beautiful lavender fields, gorgeously appointed chateaux, and an eclectic mix of characters just waiting to make their way into your heart.

What begins as a venture of love becomes the follow through of a broken heart, but all is not lost. Light may be hard to find in the darkness, but it can often shine the brightest. When Waltho kicks off his endeavor to continue that dream interrupted and save his small portion of the world in the process, he couldn't guess the ways in which those that start out as strangers will impact his life, and he, theirs. They've much to learn from each other and many steps to take towards their futures, but in the end, this newfound family will become near and dear to your own heart... you can count on it.

A great add to this author's body of work, and a wonderful pick for Women's Fiction and Contemporary Fiction fans.

Author the author...

Caroline James always wanted to write, but instead of taking a literary route, followed a career in the hospitality industry, which included owning a pub and a beautiful country house hotel. She was also a media agent representing celebrity chefs. When she finally glued her rear to a chair and began to write, the words flowed, and several novels later, she has gained many bestseller badges for her books.

The French Cookery School is Caroline’s tenth novel. Previously, The Cruise, described as: ‘Girl power for the over sixties!’ was an Amazon Top Ten Best Seller. Caroline’s hilarious novels include The Spa Break and The Best Boomerville Hotel, depicted as ‘Britain’s answer to the Best Marigold Hotel’.

She likes to write in Venus, her holiday home on wheels and in her spare time, walks with Fred, her Westie, or swims in a local lake. Caroline is a member of the Romantic Novelists Association, the SOA, ARRA and the Society of Women’s Writers & Journalists. She is also a speaker with many amusing talks heard by a variety of audiences, including cruise ship guests.

RRR presents... The Love Algorithm by Camilla Isley - REVIEW!

Welcome back, readers!
Time to take another trip through the epages with the latest release from subtle Camilla Isley. It's a romcom that's just begging to be added to your TBR, and for some sneaky peek fun, it's currently on tour with Rachel's Random Resources, hence today's post. So are you ready? Let's get this party started as we introduce today's blog tour guest and ebook of choice...

The Love Algorithm
by
Camilla Isley

About the book...
At 28, with a Ph.D under her belt and a meteoric rise to head of Research and Development at Mercer Robotics, Reese feels her decision to put her career first has worked out pretty well for her. Sure, she doesn’t have many personal relationships to speak of, but she does love her team and they like her too.

So when she’s called to the Big Boss’s office and told she will be looking after his son while he does a rotation in her lab, she’s not thrilled that her hard work and achievements have boiled down to being a glorified babysitter – especially to a billionaire playboy with zero experience of mechanical engineering.

But then tall, blond Thomas walks into her office, and Reese realizes this assignment is going to be even harder than she thought. Because the CEO’s son is not only extraordinarily gorgeous, chiseled, and charming… he’s also on course to become her new boss one day, and so extraordinarily out of bounds. As the pair get to know each other, can Reese hold her nerve and her beliefs, or will she fall victim to the billionaire charm?

A gorgeously funny enemies-to-lovers, work-place rom com, perfect for fans of Sarah Adams, Lynn Painter and Jo Watson.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've said it before, and I'll say it again... another winner from Camilla Isley, romcom writer extraordinare! 👏
Reese is smart and charming. I loved getting her take on things before she had all the info in hand because her genius would come up with some doozies! Thomas is an unexpected breath of fresh air with character... and yes, I meant it the way I typed it. 😅  Easy on the eyes not so much on the ego, but his future and hers should come with some yield signs because business and pleasure shouldn't mix. Right?! Anyway, it could have been a simple billionaire romance,  but where's the fun in that? 😉 We get the workplace romance, and enemies to lovers tropes, all tied up in one for a story that draws the heart and the mind towards a happily-ever-after you'll be dying to read.
A great pick for Romance fans that love a Contemporary story to while away a weekend!
About the author...
Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY to... THE STRANGER I WED by Harper St. George - REVIEW!
Tuesdays bring the GOOD STUFF as far as readers are concerned, and today is no different because we're celebrating a BOOK BIRTHDAY! That's right!  It's the latest release from a well known author and a part of her The Doves of New York series, which, if this title is any indication, is gonna be one to watch!  Ladies and gents, don your finery, and toss your cares of idle gossip to the wind, as we shine the spotlight on today's pub day celebrant...
About the book...
New to wealth and to London high society, American heiress Cora Dove discovers that with the right man, marriage might not be such an inconvenience after all. . . .
Cora Dove and her sisters’ questionable legitimacy has been the lifelong subject of New York’s gossipmongers and a continual stain on their father’s reputation. So when the girls each receive a generous, guilt-induced dowry from their dying grandmother, the sly Mr. Hathaway vows to release their funds only if Cora and her sisters can procure suitable husbands—far from New York. For Cora, England is a fresh start. She has no delusions of love, but a husband who will respect her independence? That’s an earl worth fighting for.
Enter: Leopold Brendon, Earl of Devonworth, a no-nonsense member of Parliament whose plan to pass a Public Health bill that would provide clean water to the working class requires the backing of a wealthy wife. He just never expected to crave Cora’s touch or yearn to hear her thoughts on his campaign—or to discover that his seemingly perfect bride protects so many secrets…
But secrets have a way of bubbling to the surface, and Devonworth has a few of his own. With their pasts laid bare and Cora’s budding passion for women’s rights taking a dangerous turn, they’ll learn the true cost of losing their heart to a stranger—and that love is worth any price.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Can I just say that I can't wait to continue following the Dove sisters?

It was a pleasure meeting the trio, even their slightly eccentric mother, as they stepped their newly wardrobe-d selves amongst the ton. Despite circumstances creating this venture, they're making the best of it, and, as luck would have it, it seems Cora may make a better match than she ever anticipated! Arrangements are made, secrets are whispered, and sparks fly, but the final curtain call will leave you with stars in your eyes.

A great addition to the genre and a MUST READ for Historical Romance fans!

RRR presents... A Duke of One's Own by Emma Orchard - REVIEW!

Ladies and gents, it's time to catch up with Rachel's Random Resources as we help shine the bookish spotlight on a new Historical Romance title ready and waiting for you! Word to the wise, it's a little more scandalous than usual, but don't judge a book by its spice alone.... for you must consider the story! Today's ebook of choice and blog tour guest is...

A Duke of One's Own
by
Emma Orchard

About the book...
Summer, 1816. A notorious rebel is about to meet her match...

Lady Georgiana Pendlebury is no stranger to breaking the rules of polite society. But when a so-called ‘friend’ invites her to a clandestine party, Georgiana is shocked to discover the event is more scandalous than even she could have imagined. So when a mysterious stranger offers help, she accepts, not realising their encounter will turn her life upside down.

Later that summer, Georgiana is invited to attend a house party at an infamous castle in Yorkshire. The gathering is a loosely veiled effort to arrange a marriage for the Duke of Northriding, who desperately needs an heir. Duke Gabriel Mauleverer has a terrible reputation as a rake, and Georgiana is happy to be a guest purely for the entertainment, but upon arrival, she is shocked to discover that the Duke is none other than the stranger who rescued her weeks earlier.

As the other ladies vie for the Duke’s attention, Georgiana is desperate to avoid their shocking secret getting out. But she finds herself caught, unable to avoid Gabriel’s gaze. Are they a threat to each other? Or could they be the answer to each other’s greatest desires?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do you like your Historical Romance with a healthy dose of spice? Well then, you've come to the right pantry! 😉
I admit, I was actually surprised by the amount of said spice, but still found the story delightful. Georgiana is a character you can't help but love. I mean, who didn't want to spread their wings and get stung in the process at some point in their lives... am I right? Such are the results of her adventure into an unsupervised party with A LOT more going on than silly gossip flying! Flames are fed, desires played out, and futures tainted with the afterglow of the night... but not all is lost. Some things were held on to, and some acquaintances may prove to be more than anticipated in times to come. Let's just say that it often proves that we find what we need in lieu of what we want when we stop looking.
All in all, a fun romp through the time period, and a great addition to the genre. True, it's spicier than some I've read, but there's still the appropriately scandalous reaction to a bared ankle... and who can resist setting the ton all a twitter!
