Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers!

While it's almost time for the candy holiday, there's another one right around the corner. That's right. You can almost hear the iconic Mariah Carey getting right now, but ALMOST is the operative word. She hasn't quite opened the flood gates of the season, however I'm definitely in the mindset of "we need a little Christmas now ", if you know what I mean. 😉 With that in mind, allow me to introduce today's blog tour guest via The Children's Book Review as it blows an air horn full of holiday cheer....

GUEST POST

Finding Ideas and Inspiration: O Muse, Where Art Thou?
...by J. Brandon Boron

As a songwriter and author (currently peddling my children’s picture book Santa’s 18-Wheel Chrome-and-Steel Sleigh, available now from Mascot Kids), I am often asked where I find my ideas and inspiration. As you can imagine, there are volumes written on the topic, and I always find it entertaining and enlightening to hear how other writers harness their muse. So (perhaps a bit presumptuously), I will share with you my relationship with that capricious lover, inspiration, and where I think she hides. But first, let’s discuss the difference between work and inspiration.
Besides an admiration for artisans of the verbal type, I also have a great appreciation for craftspeople and folks that build things with their hands—artists in their own right. I too love the planning, the attention to detail, the thoughtfulness, and the execution of those plans (perhaps realized as a cabinet, bookshelf, or home) through skill and labor. And, just as the carpenter labors, so too does the writer. It’s toiling that brings an idea to life, that makes “the idea” physical, seen, felt, or heard. It takes what one might call “work.” But what about “the idea”? It’s one thing to say to yourself, “I sure could use a table,” and yet another to say, “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds seems like a great idea for a song.”

Mr. Sandman, Bring Me a Great Idea
We’ve all heard stories of artists recounting how “it came to me in a dream” or “I had a vision.” Though never one to shy from using artistic license, I too was always a bit skeptical (if not jealous) of this pronouncement from those gifted, chosen few. That is until it hit me without warning one afternoon, blissfully napping.
Several years ago, I had been working on a song, on and off for several days, yet couldn’t seem to find the right lyrics or idea for the “middle eight” (as Sir Paul McCartney and the three other bugs referred to what most of us musicians call the bridge of a tune). Accepting defeat, I lay down for a bit of a nap, and lo and behold, as I drifted off to la-la-land, a new idea and words began to flow like wine. Really good wine. Fortunately, I had enough awareness and (more importantly) discipline to get up and begin toiling away again at the tune. Blessed with this new idea delivered unto me, I finished the song (which I am honored to have performed recently at The Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee). But was this cherished delivery laid at my feet set there by a sacred courier?

O, Thank Heaven!
So, what of this siren song of the muse, who by grace may deliver that oft-vexing “idea”? The idea of the muse dates to ancient Greece, where muses were gods and did what gods do—help us mortals make sense of this thing we call life. They offer us comfort, strength, and structure. They give us hope and help explain the unknown. And if you trust in them, they may even take the blame for stuff you do (or don’t do). Muse, my trusted darling, it’s your fault. We absolve ourselves of the sin of unoriginality. Yet please, continue to inspire me!

Can I Get Her Contact Info?
But first we must find her. Alas, the million-dollar question: What is the secret to summon her? Where does she hide? Pray tell, conjurers and summoners, shamans and necromancers. As we have seen, sometimes she will visit, whimsically, only after we have given up. Perhaps in a dream. Perhaps as we skillfully navigate around other (less gifted) motorists about our city streets. I will often meet her on a walk, preoccupied with any other thought. Sometimes in the shower. Oh my. But generally, never where I’m looking. Now you see her, now you don’t. She’s an aberration, a parallax, a paradox, perhaps just a dream. She’s unrequited, unlisted. Was she that “Scam Likely” call I didn’t answer. Oh no!

In the End, Was She Just a Dream?
It does beg the question, “Is she real?” Surely, she must be. After all, as artists we’ve all felt the electricity of her touch. Just as lightning brought Frankenstein to life, so does the spark of inspiration ignite our passion to create art: physical, seen, felt, and heard works from nothing. Life. It’s certainly comforting and exciting to believe there are higher powers at work in our lives. That we are somehow conduits in some existential circuit board governing some greater purpose (aren’t we?). But does she, Ms. Muse, deserve all the credit? I don’t think so—I believe we deserve a little credit too.

Ask Not What She Can Do for You
So, if you are wondering where I find inspiration (and perhaps you are on your own quest to find her), I challenge you: as you patiently await another visit from that capricious lover, be godly. Find inspiration and enthusiasm in the everyday. As you walk. As you drive. As you spend time with the living. Maybe even as you nap. I’m confident you will find plenty of inspiration all around you.

WHAT'S THE BUZZ?: A Cure for the Hiccups By Jennifer E. Smith, Illustrated by Brandon James Scott - REVIEW!

What's the buzz?
🗓 MARK YOUR CALENDAR... there's a new storybook COMING SOON from Random House Studio that's worth holding your breath for! ☁️
THIS NOVEMBER... make room on your shelves for

by
Jennifer E. Smith
Illustrated by
Brandon James Scott

"...Is it possible to have the hiccups for the rest of your life? In this delightfully fun picture book, a determined kid who’s good at everything except waiting discovers that being patient and taking a deep breath may be the perfect place to start..."

👧 OMG! The hiccups can totally be the worst, and it seems like my family, Maddy included (of course!), gets them all the time! We call them the hicky-uppies... which really translates to the "I-feel-like-I'm-going-to-make-this-noise-for-the-rest-of-my-life-so-might-as-well-call-it-something-cute-since-I'm-stuck-with-them". Yeah, so the worst... but, one thing for sure, Max's grandmother 👵 in this story is right... one day, they'll just tiptoe away, if we only give them a chance.

It's an adorable, fully and beautifully illustrated, story that's not just about saying adios to the hiccups, but taking the time to smell the roses, finding the moments to find ourselves, and giving ourselves permission to simply take a breath and just be. She's a wise woman, that grandma... and I love how Max takes her lesson learned, and runs with it when a similar fate befalls her brother.

⏭️ Make room on your shelves and mark your calendar because this one is heading your way NOVEMBER 4TH!

Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY to...The Governess' Unlikely Suitor by Ella Matthews - REVIEW!

Welcome back readers!
Today, we're celebrating the latest release from author Ella Matthews and couldn't be MORE excited. 😃 Why? Well, quite simply, I've not been disappointed by her work previously, and loved the first one in this series, so anticipation has been mounting for some time...to put it not so simply, you'll want to read on 😉. So, without further ado, ladies and gents, Historical Romance fans round the world, I give you today's featured title...

The Governess' Unlikely Suitor
The Dashworth Brothers, book 2
by
Ella Matthews

About the book...

Katherine Hornel has carved out a life she loves. Being a governess might put her in the way of arrogant aristocratic families, but the children are always a delight. When a controlling employer makes life in his house impossible, she flees. But this is only the beginning of her problems. Bent on revenge, her ex-employer sets out to destroy not only her life, but also that of her brother’s. Penniless, she must find a different way to make ends meet, all while trying to stay true to herself.

Desperate to find out how his older brother died while living in America, Edward Dashworth hires investigator Simon Hornel. In exchange for Simon journeying so far from home, Edward promises to provide for his penniless sister, Katherine. It cannot matter that she is the most beautiful woman Edward has ever met. Not only has he sworn an oath to protect her, their difference in station makes a relationship impossible and, with the truth getting ever closer, he cannot afford to disrupt Simon’s search.

But when fate pushes Edward and Katherine together, temptation might be too hard for them to resist. And, if they give in, can they live with the consequences?

Fan of...

• Regency romance
• Friends to lovers
• Private dance lessons
• Open door

... then this is TOTALLY the book for you!

I've read this author's work before (several of her titles actually), and thoroughly enjoyed myself each and every time. In fact, when the first Dashworth Brothers book came out, I was there to see it happen, celebrate its arrival, and spread the word... the chance to do it again now with book two is simply magical!

Freddie was paired off in the first tale, and it was one for the books. This time around, the lucky Dashworth on the invisible marriage block is Edward. You might say still waters run deep with this one, but, you've got to keep in mind, he has a shared past with the others to overcome too. His aunt wasn't any easier on him than his brothers, yet not in a "let's get you all grown up" sort of way. Her way was more Red Queen in Regency England with a dash of Mommy Dearest, and Flowers in the Attic thrown in. With Edward, he may put off a stand offish vibe, especially with those he's interested in, but he'd never want to put someone in a position that they feel they are obligated to do something, or feel a certain way in order to maintain a quality of life, or procure a roof over their head. Not to worry though...our leading lady has issues in her past as well, and they aren't any easier to dress up and hide. A match made in heaven...if they can only get past the hells they've been through.

I ADORED the characters, marveled at the author's ability to create such vibrant stories one wishes they could step into, wondered when these two would learn to communicate outside of their own minds and solve SO MUCH, but certainly felt the power of actions over words 😉. By book's end, I added another book to my "read and loved" list, and made room on any future TBR for the next brother's tale!

All in all, a great read for Historical Romance fans and a wonderful addition to the series! If you've read Ella Matthews' work before, you won't be disappointed; if you haven't, there's no time like the present! While it is book two in the collection, you could totally read it standalone style, and then go back to the first one, if your little heart desires.

Ella Matthews lives and works in beautiful South Wales. When not thinking about handsome heroes she can be found walking along their coast with her husband and their two children (probably still thinking about heroes but at least pretending to be interested in everyone else).

RRR presents... BE OUR GHOST by Carla Luna - REVIEW!

Today, we're shining the BOOK BIRTHDAY spotlight on a title celebrating its release with family, and friends as opposed to the author herself. That's right. The writer that penned such favorites as Santa Maybe, Field Rules, and Red Velvet, is no longer with us, having passed suddenly a few months ago. The thing about her chosen profession is that her legacy lives on in the hearts and minds of readers past, present, and future... and today, I'm proudly joining others in the bookish community alongside Rachel's Random Resources to bring the love about this story. So please, give your loved ones a hug, and grab a seat, as we check out the final release from this memorable author...

Be Our Ghost
The Duchess Hotel, Book 2
by
Carla Luna

About the book...

The only thing scarier than ghosts is falling in love.

Knox McIntyre has mastered the art of avoiding drama, especially the romantic kind. Ever since his screenwriting career went up in flames, the grumpy bartender has kept his past buried and his heart off-limits. But when a paranormal reality show sets its sights on the boutique hotel where he works, he gets roped into the production—and partnered with the one woman who just might unravel him.

Charlotte “Charlie” Fraser is the Duchess Hotel’s sunny front office manager, a hopeless romantic with a weakness for happy endings and broody bartenders. After months of pining for Knox, she’s finally ready to act—even if it means battling her inner scaredy-cat by helping him bring a ghost-hunting show to the hotel this Halloween.

As Knox and Charlie dig into the hotel’s chilling past, they find themselves irresistibly drawn to each other. Every lingering look, near kiss, and shared secret brings them closer to something real. But unless they can summon the courage to face their feelings head-on, their love doesn’t stand a ghost of a chance.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"...a grumpy/sunshine workplace rom-com with haunted vibes, Halloween hijinks, and a slow-burn romance that’s worth believing in..."
If the cover wasn't enough to catch your attention, that tag line certainly should! One of my favorite tropes, written by an author who's works I've previously read and enjoyed, taking place at the perfect time of year... it's just screaming to be read.  I loved both our grumpy and our sunshine, their characters were adorable while still bringing all the feels that you hope for in a Romance. The spooky vibes give it just the right amount of edge to create those haunted moments without making you reach for your nightlight to make it through the story. There's moments of greatness, and moments of laughter, time for nail-biting, and time for courage, and of course, those heart pounding moments when you just know the characters are so close to seeing what's in front of them, you can see the sparks coming off the page.
It's a great story by itself, and a wonderful addition to the series... and one I'm sorry to see end, but I'll definitely be revisiting the Duchess for a reread. If you haven't discovered this author's work, there's no time like the present, and plenty of tales to lose yourself in.
AWARENESS TOUR: Ginger’s Courage by Lynsey Patterson, Illustrated by Angela Perrini - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!
Sweater weather is finally upon us, even in the hot location I reside (okay, it's in the wee hours of the morning, but I digress), so what better way to celebrate than with a book?! I can think of none!
Today's title is currently on an AWARENESS TOUR with The Children's Book Review and features a story who's cover brings the autumnal vibes in heaps, the cuteness in an adorable ball of fur, but also a surprising amount of HEART. Trust me, your heart strings are gonna sing. Ladies and gents, put on your favorite football jersey, grab your pumpkin colored anything, and if you have a fur baby, snuggle them close, as we dive into today's blog tour guest and ebook of choice...
About the book...
When Ginger, a spirited dog, faces a life-changing injury, her world is turned upside down. But with the support of her friends and a heart full of resilience, she discovers a newfound positivity that helps her embrace life’s challenges.
🐶 💜 🐶 💜 🐶 💜 🐶
Ginger is the sweetest thing since pumpkin spice become a season instead of simply a flavor. She's ADORABLE, SPUNKY, RAMBUNCTIOUS, and everything a pupper could want to be. She plays, she romps, she has a good time... until one day, tragedy strikes. I know, you weren't prepared for that from the cover, but trust me, it gets better! Yes, she has a MAJOR setback. Ginger’s world goes from a dizzying spin of fun, fun, fun to a total standstill... major events can throw us off our game, so to speak (*raises hand*).  One day, when it doesn't feel quite as heavy, and Ginger takes those precious first steps, she sees something that not only catches her attention, but gives her hope. ♥️ She sees someone like her, someone that had challenges placed in their path seemingly insurmountable that was not only surviving, but LIVING.  They were enjoying life to its fullest without anything holding them back. We're adjustments needed? Certainly... but they weren't impossible. They weren't something that would keep her from enjoying her favorite things, and showing the world her true colors. Ginger found her courage... and never looked back.
Omg. I was a mess when reading this one, short and sweet as it was, my eyes still teared, but the messages were impactful, the illustrations adorable, and the overall package reader friendly for all ages and stages of life. So whether you're a kiddo looking at life for the first time, or someone that's got a history built but needs a new perspective, this book was made for you.
