Good morning (or whatever time it is where you are), everyone!
Welcome to another installment of Taste Testing Tuesdays here at Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers! Taste Testing Tuesdays was inspired by 'Teaser Tuesdays', a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.
On the menu this week ... one collection of short stories, one pet memoir, and one MG fiction!
Ready for a taste?
This particular tease comes from the short story The Spy Who Never Grew Up by Sarah Rees Breenan...any guess as to the identity of Peter?

Peter tilted his head to one side. There was a cold watchful light in his eyes now, like the glint children imagine they see after bedtime, when the night-light has been turned off and shadows and shivers start creeping into bed with them. -- pg 138, Kiss Me Deadly edited by Trisha Telep

Through the years, I have met fighting dogs that have survived and other rescued dogs that have been abused and mistreated in horrific fashion. But for obvious reasons, survival is exceedingly rare in a dog who has been used as bait and mutilated to the extent that Oogy had been. And it's even rarer that, after unspeakable depravity and abuse that had been inflicted upon him, the dog maintained a trusting, loving spirit. -- pg 44-45, Oogy: The Dog Only a Family Could Love by Larry Levin
As horrible as his experience must have been to create the lasting effects on poor Oogy's looks, his loving and gentle spirit remained intact....a definite tribute to the wonderful spirits that inhabit our fuzzy friends.
The crying had been so gentle, he had expected to someone more, well...gentle. He froze, knowing it was rude to look but too horrified to turn away. -- pg 96, Elliot and the Goblin War by Jennifer A. Nielsen
The warning on this book is definitely eye catching and so far, the story is a lot of fun. With this random quote though I have to wonder....who is crying and just what DO they look like?
