Good morning (or whatever time it is where you are), everyone!
Welcome to another installment of Taste Testing Tuesdays here at Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers! Taste Testing Tuesdays was inspired by 'Teaser Tuesdays', a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.
On the menu this week...two titles quickly reaching completion but boy oh boy...could they be any more different from one another? Let's get to the tease...
-----------------------------------------------
Terry’s lips parted to show his teeth in an angry, frustrated sneer. His eyes, though – his eyes were scared. In Terry’s mind Ig had already left most of his face on the side of the hill and was lying in a tangled, squalling mess halfway down it. Ig felt a kind of affectionate pity for Terry. Terry was cool, cooler than Ig would ever be, but he was afraid.-- pg 75, Horns by Joe Hill
I remember what scene this precedes. It’s just before Ig is going to do something rather stu….I mean dangerous such as some boys (well, probably girls too…somewhere…but definitely not THIS girl) will do. This book will definitely throw you for a loop and is not one for the kiddos, but still…curious to see where things end up as he pieces together what happened a few short years ago; should be interesting.
Never judge a book by its cover
Sadly, in the publishing industry this is a complete no-no. Everyone judges a book by its cover, and if you don’t like the cover, you aren’t going to bother to pick it up and find out if the inside is any good. All that glitters may indeed not be gold, but anything that glitters is still going to catch the eye. A twentieth-century expression, this is as true of people as it is of books.
-- pg 101, An Apple a Day by Caroline Taggart
A rather powerful statement and one I’m not certain I agree with entirely as a catchy title or intriguing font will go a long way; its basic meaning is still very true. “…it is not what is outside, but what is inside that counts…” …thank you Aladdin. ^_^ Review of this nifty title coming soon…in the mean time check out yesterday’s “Proverbs 101” post featuring a fun quiz from author Caroline Taggart.

Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
*Open to a random page
*Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
Make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
*Share the title & author, too, so that other participants can add the book to their TBR.*

Until next time....happy reading!
Both teasers are good, especially that second one....really made me think! Sounds like an interesting read. Enjoy your books!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Christina in that I also liked the second teaser.
ReplyDeleteLove the second teaser! Food for thought...
ReplyDeleteWow...you guys are really taking a shine to the second one. (Go figure...hehe) ^_^
ReplyDeleteChristina: Score one for reading fun WITH learning.
Petty Witter: *nods*
Misha: Wow, 3 for 3. ^_^
I do think it's ironic that the second book has what is, for me, a rather unappealing cover. The content, however, does seem intriguing, what with me being a big ol' language nerd.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to see that you are reading Horns! I read it right after it came out and really liked it. It definitely has twists and turns and surprises!! Have you read Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill? Loved that one!! Can't wait to see your thoughts on Horns when you finish!
ReplyDeleteAmen on the second one :)
ReplyDeleteI'm totally constantly guilty of that.
Great teasers!
Here is my TT :)
Love these! Both of them. I think I wouldn't have taken a second look at Horns were it not for you mentioning it. So way to go! :o)
