Hi there everyone!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
I wasn't going to post again today, but I had totally forgotten to mention this book-tastic event going on that you NEED to know about...and participate in. ^_^
It's called....
....READ FOR THE RECORD.
Curious?
I thought you might be.
Here's the scoop straight from the site....
Each year, millions of adults and children gather on a single day to set a new reading record and to show their support for early literacy by joining Jumpstart's Read for the Record. This year we're going for two reading records as part of this exciting campaign! On October 6, read Anna Dewdney's Llama Llama Red Pajama and help set the latest overall reading record. When you read online at We Give Books with the children in your life, you'll help set a brand-new record for a shared digital reading experience as well! (This digital reading record at We Give Books will count toward the overall record.) Together you, along with parents and children reading in print and online throughout the United States, will break the overall record of over 2 million readers!Get started now and you can help us give 50,000 books to more than 6,000 schools across the country. Pledge to read for Jumpstart's Read for the Record from any page on this site, and start reading one of our many free books online at We Give Books. For each book you read as part of the Read for Our Schools campaign, We Give Books will donate a copy of Llama Llama Red Pajama so that a classroom can help break the records! For more information on Jumpstart, head to jstart.org/readfortherecord.

How great is that?
So...of course I had to participate.
^_^
To be counted "officially" in the event, the book of choice was chosen for us...and what a cute title indeed! Even those of you that don't frequent the storybook genre all that often can surely recognize this series. Today's impromptu book of choice is....
Llama Llama Red Pajama
Written and illustrated by
Anna Dewdney
It's obvious how much llama llama loves his Mama. From hugs and kisses to sharing reading time before bed, they are two peas in a pod....until it's time for the little pea to go to bed. (Can you guess where this is going?) Mama Llama has things to do when it's lights out for little Llama, but all he can think of as he lies in bed in his little red pajamas is...
...all the things that go bump in the night,
Giving him quite a fright.
He calls for Mama but to his chagrin,
She does not come charging in.
Instead she listens and responds
She'll be there momentarily,
but patience does not come easily.Little Llama is not happy
And will not lie down for his nappy;
Without her presence by his side
..and so he goes and starts to cry.
He wails and frets and stomps his feet,
Hoping that Mama he will soon meet.
Instead when she varily appears
Though not impressed, his fears she clears.
With tender words shared heart to heart,
He now knows they're never apart.
For love connects us one and all,
Bridging distance both great..and small.
Sorry for my outburst of lyrical writing (or attempt at it anyway). I was inspired by this brief yet wonderful story. Can't help but smile at the tenderness shown in the simple words relayed to assure little llama of his Mama's love for him. It's a great read for the little ones who may be questioning these very things in the dark as well as a great reminder for older readers of how the connections we make throughout life can start in the simpliest of forms.
Thanks to We Give Books for the chance to read, share and be a part of such a wonderful event! To find out more, simply follow the link, 'like' their Facebook page, or follow along on Twitter.

Until next time...happy reading!
A great event, as you say the earlier the better. Great nephew, Little Plum already has lots of books (its amazing the variety available for those not yet even a year old) and I can't wait until hes old enough to read some of my childhood favourites.
ReplyDeleteAww, super cute! One of the kidlit books I recently got introduced/inspired by is And Tango Makes Three (during banned books week). It just goes to show, a good story is classic, regardless of the age group it's written for.
ReplyDeleteSmiles!

Petty Witter: I know! I see them when stocking the Kids section of the store and think WOW...my library (personal that is) would have been SO FULL had all these little gems been available when I was that age. ^_^
ReplyDeleteLoriStrongin: Oh yes...the penguin book, right? I remember seeing it during "banned" week as well....looks like an adorable story and sounds like it lived up to that assessment and perhaps more. ^_^
