The Power of Your Story by Alberto Sardinas

Hi guys!
Welcome back to the place that aims to be your bookish home every day of the week, with the occasional day off...Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Happy Monday to everyone!  Here's hoping your weekends went well and you did all you planned or rather didn't plan if it was simply spent relaxing....which of course there is NOTHING wrong with.  Sometimes you just need to sit back and let it all melt away, you know?  *daydreams*  _ahem_  Sorry.  Having a "calgon moment" there.  ^_^  Anywho, back on track...

Today, we are stepping up to the plate with a collection of short stories taken straight from the pages of real life and arranged in such a way as to help you glean the best "you" out of the lessons learned.  Curious how?  Read on my friend, read on.  Today's book of choice is...

40 Short Real-Life Stories Filled with Lessons

As the title states, it is a collection of stories aimed at getting you from point A to point B; the place our troubles, supposed or otherwise, began, to an ending that suits both the situation and results in the best you you can be.

The stories shared were gathered from the author's years as a radio host (still is in this role I gather) and while people and places were shared only in a "protected" manner, you get the gist of it.  From heated confrontations witnessed to those unable or unwilling to break the cycle of bad relationships they keep encountering, from the tireless warrior just wanting to spread a little hope to another's day (and missing that chance by a hair) to the author's own almost miss with the love of his life, the tales shared are real, heart felt and heart wrenching while still giving you pause.  Pause how?  Well, it depends on the story but more often than not, it's to take into account just what blessings you have been graced with versus sorrows and to invite you to build upon those experiences.  Each chapter is a new story and at the end of each is a "takeaway" lesson and a worksheet of sorts for you to share your own story and by book's end, as the title suggests, reveal the power of it all.

Was I enraptured?  No, but it was more the content versus the presentation.  The general layout was fine and the work spaces provided were an excellent touch to make it not only a read but a therapeutic means of exploring your own life experiences.  I think for me, the stories themselves were perhaps too numerous in order to really explore in-depth and a time or two it seemed we were really reaching in order to find a bigger meaning.  Then again, this is the type of read that is very open to personal interpretation and depending on where you are in your life, may strike you differently.  As for me, I definitely appreciated the uplifting points and reminders that although my troubles are numerous and great in my own eyes, there are still those having a worse time of things.  If you are one of them, my heart goes out to you.  If you are not, my heart still goes out to you in celebration of the comforts you are enjoying.

In conclusion, not a read for everyone by any means, it certainly will hit home with the right audience.  My own recommendation would be for those seeking a new perspective on their own troubles, those just having lifted themselves out of a bad situation and still dealing with the changes, or anyone who enjoys exploring the many sides of human nature.  Review copy courtesy of Andrea and author Alberto Sardinas.  (THANKS!)  For more information on this title as well as his continued work, be sure to visit the official book site , like his Facebook page, like him on Twitter, or stop by the author's site.  Perhaps you crave a little more interactive experience?  Check out this interview with the author as well as this video of how this journey got started.

Until next time...happy reading!
