A Girl Walks Into a Wedding by Helena S Paige

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers, where the reading is always fresh and piping hot…today a bit more so than usual even.  *ahem*

The spotlight today is shining on a recent release in the adult Fiction category…with a twist.  Remember those choose-your-own-adventure books from childhood?  They’re BACK!  This time around, they have a severely female lean with content that might have you reconsidering where and when you read it.  Yes, it definitely falls into the blush worthy side of things but before you make any snap judgments regarding your interest level, read on my friend, read on.  Today’s slightly scandalous book of choice is…

Your Fantasy, Your Rules

William Morrow

About the book…
It's your fantasy. Your rules.
The choice is all yours. . . .
Your best friend is getting married and she's asked you to be a bridesmaid. You have so many decisions to make. . . .
  • Do you ask the gorgeous but mysterious man you just met to come as your date?
  • Or do you go solo?
  • Once the wedding weekend gets under way, will you ditch your date? Get down and dirty with the hot DJ? Dodge the disreputable best man?
  • Or perhaps the rugged pilot you meet in the bar will open up unexpected erotic opportunities—and who knew the maid of (dis)honor had such a sultry streak?
You also have to navigate through the bachelorette party, the bride's wedding jitters, the dress from hell, and more. Perhaps the most tempting option is to flee the entire affair with a tall, dark stranger . . . or maybe an old friend who could surprise you with a sizzling encounter.
You make the decisions—a wild ride is guaranteed.

So, when I receive a review request or pitch, I read through the info provided, mull it around, consider my interest level and take a look at the old calendar.  I try to be thorough, giving each one a chance to initially impress and usually it pans out.  Now I know that sounds like a set up to say that today’s title did not, but the case is actually quite the opposite…as it DID pan out…BUT, it was a bit steamier than I first anticipated.  Okay, MUCH steamier…apparently I missed the phrase “interactive EROTIC novel” and purely focused on the fact that it was a choose-your-own-adventure for adult readers (color me child-like).  So, yeah…some of the adventures are umm, definitely not PG-13 but that’s not to say they weren’t interesting, enjoyable, or worthy of your time.

If you’ve ever read the classic choose-your-own-adventure books, you know how this works.  You start the story like everyone else, you come to a fork in the literary road and CHOOSE which path you’ll follow.  It’s almost like you’re creating your own story, which characters to include, which places you’ll visit, what consequences you can live with….*dun dun dunnn*… and if you choose wrong, you can always go back a turn or two and try something else.  This time around, you have the same options, with just as much story to affect and build along the way, but with a little more adult situations, contact and outcomes.  It was fun trying to be the life of the party while still towing the maid of honor line.  My first trip through (because really, you CAN’T read this type of book ONLY once…there are SO many paths to explore!), came to an end rather quickly…and no, I didn’t pass away or anything; merely flew to Paris with a handsome stranger and had the time of our lives.  My second time around, the story lasted a bit longer, making it where I had to navigate awkward situations, spurn advances, resist heavenly temptation, avoid the walk of shame, climb balconies and much much more.  *ahem*  Yeah…I DID mention this one was not for the kiddos in the audience, correct?  *double checks*  Good.

In conclusion, I had as much fun as I first anticipated despite my hesitation when I actually faced with the big “E” word.  Though I’ve read some reviews that were less than flattering (to each their own), I found the world without severe consequence (for it’s not lacking entirely) created fun and inviting.  The characters perhaps could have been more fleshed out but for the type of read it was, it worked.  You can’t truly get THAT heavy handed when building a tale that takes place as the readers exercises their freedom of choice; it’s not practical.  The tales spun from your A versus B decisions range from pretty sultry to sorta sweet and several in-between.  Try one, try them all…whatever your reading pleasure.  *wink wink*

Recommended read for ADULT readers.  Yep, not even going to feign that it should be read by a younger crowd due to possible content depending on what avenue you choose.  Some are DEFINITELY spicier than others, but still…ADULT readers if you please.  Review copy received courtesy of Alaina at William Morrow Paperbacks.  (THANKS!)  For more information on this title as well as their full catalog, be sure to stop by their official site, friend them on Facebook, or follow them on Twitter.  This title reached publication in the last week or two via William Morrow, an imprint of Harpercollins, so be on the look out for it on a bookstore shelf or virtual store near you.

Oh, and if you’re looking for additional titles by this particular author, don’t be surprised if you come up short (though there is one previous release, A Girl Walks Into a Bar).  It’s ACTUALLY the pseudonym of authors Helen Moffett, Sarah Lotz, and Paige Nick.  Yep.  Three authors, one choose-your-own-adventure book….imagine the possibilities (or don’t and REALIZE them by reading it yourself! ^_^)

Until next time…happy reading!
