Pride, Prejudice and the Perfect Match by Marilyn Brant

Hi there!
Welcome back to the Sunday edition of Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Well would you look at that.  Summer time is already here and I don't know about your neck of the woods, but in mine...the temps are HOT HOT HOT!  Whew!  It's a great time to kick back, relax, and dive into a great read.  With that in mind, I felt it was about time to catch up with one of my FAVORITE authors with an eBook review for a title released once upon a time.  I say that particular time frame because in truth it hit actual and virtual shelves in 2013 but I've only now had a moment to indulge.  *sigh*  So many books, so little time!  Not that I'm complaining... *ahem*  Anyway, shall we get right down to it then?  Ladies and gents, clear a spot in your weekend reading for today's gem of a title...

About the book...
A single mother and an ER doctor meet on an Internet dating site--each for reasons that have little to do with finding their perfect match--in this modern, Austen-inspired story. It's a tribute to the power of both "pride" & "prejudice" in bringing two people romantically together, despite their mutual insistence that they should stay apart...

Would an Elizabeth Bennet by any other name be as appealing to a Darcy?

Beth Ann Bennet isn't looking for love. She's an aspiring social worker using an online alias to study sex-role stereotypes. Dr. William Darcy isn't looking for love either. He's just trying to fund his new clinic by winning a major bet. Both think Lady Catherine's Love Match Website will help them get what they want--fast, easy and without endangering their hearts. Both are in for a big surprise.

Pride, Prejudice and the Perfect Match...where true love is just a fib and a click away.

Charlotte Lucas.  Beth Ann Bennet.
What's in a name?
A rose would still smell as sweet, would it not?
That is the dilemma, nay the eternal question that is asked and answered in this modern day novella of the classic Pride and Prejudice tale.

The situation presented was CLASSIC in BOTH senses of the word.  It made its point in showing the gender roles usually assigned to the sexes just as Beth was researching, while also addressing a here-and-now type sitch...the world of online dating.  A scary place or a realm for those too busy/shy/awkward to get out in the real world?  Good question indeed.  Here, we get to see the whole you-can-be-anything-you-want in the virtual realm with realistic results.  After all, not everything people post online is a stretch or fabrication...but sorting through it all to get to the real deal can be just as cumbersome and infuriating as seen here.  Moving forward...

I really enjoyed Beth's character.  She was kind-hearted, good-natured, a wonderful mother, and a fab friend.  The world didn't revolve around her nor did she expect it to, and she wasn't afraid to work for what she wanted.  Her best friend Jane was a great yin to her yang, balancing out her sensibilities with a little devil-may-care.  Speaking of the "devil", Bingley was certainly one I cared less about than most, although my book's end, even HE has a more golden light shined upon him and his intentions.  Now someone that didn't need the golden spotlight would be Dr. Darcy...the man that's captured Beth or should I say Charlotte's attention in the blink of an eye.  He seems to be made to blow stereotypes out of the water and he does it while looking so darn good!  *ahem*  Seriously though, he may have a hidden agenda but it's not so bad and his heart though working through a possible thaw is in the right place.  You have to respect a man that wants to help serve the greater good, in this case mother's and children unable to afford proper medical care.

All in all, I enjoyed the read and highly recommend it to Romance, Chick-Lit, and P&P fans.  I must say though, as much fun as I had (and I really DID have fun!), I still prefer this author's works in full length novels to the drib and drab of short stories...simply for the fact that we get to experience her writing and the world created THAT much longer!
