BLOG TOUR: Caught Read Handed by Terrie Farley Moran

Hi guys!
Welcome back to another busy bookish week here at Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

You may have noticed the bit of blog silence this weekend.  No worries; it won't become a habit.  Just needed a little down time from the posting to do all the reading for the upcoming posting and...well, you get the picture.  Anyway, it's time to get this week started and what better way than with a BLOG TOUR via Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours!  It stars the second book in the growing Read 'Em and Eat series and is just as delectable as the first...food, book, and reading wise that is.  No time like the present, so let's jump in to today's cozy mystery of choice...

About the book...
From the national bestselling author of Well Read, Then Dead comes the second mystery featuring Sassy Cabot and Bridgy Mayfield, who bring Fort Myers Beach, Florida, residents plenty of sinful treats and killer reads at their bookstore café, Read ’Em and Eat.

Happy to help her fellow bibliophiles, Sassy visits the local library with book donations for their annual fundraising sale. Unfortunately, the welcoming readers’ haven is in turmoil as an argument erupts between an ornery patron and new staff member, Tanya Lipscombe—also known as “Tanya Trouble.” She may lack people skills, but everyone is shocked when she’s later found murdered in her own hot tub.

The man last seen arguing with Tanya is soon arrested. But Alan Mersky, a veteran with PTSD, happens to be the brother of Sassy’s former boss—and he’s no murderer. Now it’s up to Sassy and Bridgy to clear Alan’s name and make sure the real killer gets booked.

I know, I know.
Here I go with another cozy mystery.
How can I expect the outcome to be any different than the others I've read and only sorta liked?  Well, in this case, I can.

You see, I read the first one and rather enjoyed myself so when the second installment surfaced, I was on board in a heartbeat.  I mean really, it takes place in Florida (my transplanted home state), features two fab leading ladies (go Sassy and Bridgy!) with a colorful assortment of friends/frenemies for support, has a mystery that needs solving pronto without giving away whomever the killer is from the start, AND it gives us the chance to visit their FABULOUS café/bookstore once again.  For me, that last one is almost the only reason needed to crack the cover on this series.  If you haven't read it, you have no idea what I'm talking about (if you have, then you KNOW you're sharing the desire to visit them!), but picture a breakfast/lunch café with optional reading and tables themed around some of your favorite authors.  There's even reading material laminated to the tabletops!  *ahem*  Back to the story though...

Cozies and I have a sorted history but as I said, this series has served me well.  There's enough mystery to keep you turning pages with plenty of culprits to point the finger at and our busy body, I mean wonderfully helpful gal Sassy to help right the wrongs despite the warnings of not only the police but her friends and neighbors.  Talk about people having your number!  It was great to see her fearlessly (for the most part) take on the mystery murderer especially when an innocent soul (or is he?) was on the line.  She aided with investigation without hindering it no matter what the police chief might say.  *ahem*  With her friends behind her, she was a shoe in to solve the puzzle...or at least had instant back up if she needed rescuing or bailing out.  You know, the usual friend stuff.

In conclusion, a great addition to a growing mystery series that keeps its promises and then some.  My only wish would be for a potential love interest to stand up and shout "here I am" for dear Sassy, but if it's in the cards, it'll happen (I have my suspicions).  If you're looking for amateur sleuthing, damsels not in distress but in control of the situation, and friends you can count on, this is one you should be adding to your "to read' list pronto.

  1. I am over the moon delighted to read your review. I write in a vacuum--ever hopeful that readers will enjoy my work. I so appreciate your taking the time to read Caught Read-Handed and then let the world know that you enjoyed it! As to romance...I know-- there are so many eligible men in Sassy's life but it is almost like Sassy is too busy to notice. Maybe someday. xoxo Terrie
