Hi guys and gals!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Today, we're taking a trip back in time to traipse between the pages of a book I read in March that I just haven't had a moment to bring you up to speed on. Sorry! Life gets in the way sometimes, as to other obligations, but I'm done keeping it to myself. It's time for all of YOU to be brought in on the conversation...so to speak. It's the second book by this particular author that I've read and featured here on the site and a sequel to that other title (Blogger Girl, being the first book). It lands proudly in the Chick Lit category but is right at home with the Romantic Comedies as well, and while it is a fiction story, I know many of my fellow bloggers and blogger-ettes that will identify with the story to a "T". So, take a break from your day job or even your night escape, and join me as we dive into today's book of choice...

About the book...
Readers first met sassy Kimberly Long in Blogger Girl, and now the feisty New Yorker is back in a standalone sequel packed with quick wit, friendship, heartache, and, of course, romance. Kim runs the most popular chick lit book blog on the web, loves playing house with her sexy lawyer boyfriend, Nicholas, and is finally pursuing her life-long dream to become a published author. At first glance, her life is five-pink-champagne-flutes worthy. But is there more to the story than meets the eye? After hearing the phrase "chick lit is dead" more times than she's read Bridget Jones's Diary, Kim is driven to desperate measures, seeking advice from up-and-coming chick lit author, Hannah Marshak, her high school nemesis and resident "mean girl." As if Kim doesn't have enough on her plate balancing her secretarial duties with her blog Pastel is the New Black, shrugging off the growing pile of agent rejections, and keeping her best friend from turning green over Kim's budding friendship with Hannah, Nicholas is so blinded by his career ambitions, he doesn't see that their home sweet home could use more than a dash of sugar. This is the year when all of Kim's dreams—professional and romantic—are supposed to come true, but will the story have a happily ever after or will Kim end up unpublished and all alone? This novel can be read as a sequel or as a standalone and is best accompanied by a cocktail, preferably a pink.

An eventful romp riding shotgun with a blogger-turned-maybe-author-if-she-can-get-her-book-the-proper-attention who was smart enough to keep her day job, while her boyfriend, best friend, and frenemy are just a phone call away. Just like with Blogger Girl, one can't help but get caught up in the reality that plays out within the fictitious story, of course the fact that the author pulls from her own life experiences for fodder, might have something to do with it. No matter. Inspiration comes from many sources and what better to write about than something you know. In this case, it totally works...much like Kim works the red shoes she rarely pulls out but look stellar in nonetheless. (Go Kim! Definitely not something you'll catch me doing...)
Book two and we've got our favorite girl back in the hot seat as she goes from maybe-I'm-a-writer to I-want-to-be-published status, all while keeping us entertained with her professional and personal life. Hey, if we can't laugh at life, what's left? From the reappearance of Daneen, whom I seriously want to smack right out of her opinion, to the magical goodness that Hannah brings, after their come-to-terms face off in book one (still don't trust that girl...and she takes herself WAY too seriously!), to the moment Jonathan imparts some unexpected wisdom (I now refer to him as the "hazy Yoda"...taking into consideration his favorite pastime outside of his relationship), there is nary a character we've previously met that's left out of the loop. What's that? I didn't mention Nicholas or much about Kim? Hang on...I'm getting there.
Though love is in the air for our lead couple, and the sparks are still there, things are starting to simmer. They've taken a few big steps and moved their relationship to the next level but...there is dangerous distance growing between them and with the likes of Daneen sticking her nose in where it doesn't belong, the tension is rising and NOT in a good way. Perhaps a girl simply can't have it all? Maybe this time, Kim and her pink "lady couch" will have to find a new port to call home without the boyfriend. Perhaps...or maybe, just maybe there's some BIG meltdown about to occur and only the strong will survive (the latter one...I'd bet on that). Just who are the strongest in this bunch? Good question...guess you'll just have to read it to find out but rest assured, there are plenty of big girl panties to go around as well as celebratory cocktails in a nice shade of pink.
Recommended read for Romantic Comedy and Chick Lit fans from older teens through the adult-ing crowd. There are sexy times, hot tempers, dreams to be followed, and messes to be navigated, but in the end, you can't keep a good blogger girl down.

About the author...
A born and bred New Yorker, Meredith Schorr discovered her passion for writing when she began to enjoy drafting work-related emails way more than she was probably supposed to. After trying her hand penning children’s stories and blogging her personal experiences, Meredith found her calling writing chick lit and contemporary women’s fiction. She secures much inspiration from her day job as a hard-working trademark paralegal and her still single (but looking) status. Meredith is also the co-founder of BookBuzz, a live author/reader event held annually. She is a loyal New York Yankees fan and an avid runner. Novelista Girl is Meredith’s fifth novel.

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing this series - I'm so happy you're enjoying it so far! And, by the way, you write amazing reviews - ever consider writing a book yourself???
ReplyDeleteLovely review! Chick lit is definitely not my "thing" but even I could appreciate the parallels about a blogger with a dream of being a published writer :)
