BLOG TOUR: Poor Little Guy by Elanna Allen - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

Hi guys and gals!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're playing host to a Penguin Young Readers tour starring a Picture Book selection with a BIG surprise...in more ways than one.  It's eye catching from the start with an adorable little lead that you just want to scoop right off the cover...but I'd avoid actually doing that if I were you.  Yes my friends, it's time to learn that very valuable lesson in a very entertaining way...NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE LITTLE GUY.  Ready or not, here comes today's book of choice...

This is the story of one little fish making his way through the BIG OCEAN WORLD.  It's tough being the little guy.  Too small to play with the other fish, and too appetizing for the bigger fish not to look at you and think...SNACK!  Ah yes, but you see, while our "poor little guy" may look like an aperitif just waiting for the right dinner party, he's much MUCH more than he seems.  Like I said, NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE LITTLE GUY...especially THIS little guy.

The moment I saw the cover art, I knew I had to know more.  I mean, COME ON!  He's so cute and the face he's making had me curious just what was in store for him.  I admit I read this one aloud to my family and THEY caught on much sooner than I did.  I was going along thinking aww, look how cute he is!  Look!  The octopus wants to play with him!  That's so sweet!  Yeah, my parents were all tuned in to what was awaiting us when we turned the page.  *-*  Eek!  POOR LITTLE GUY indeed!  That eight-legged bully wasn't looking to take care of our tiny friend out of kindness, but out of hunger!  I was shocked, I was surprised, I was...intrigued just how far this was going to go, after all it IS a Picture Book.  I need not to have worried because the author had it all in hand, giving her little guy super powers the likes of which the wielder-of-many-arms wasn't expecting...nor were the others who thought they would succeed where Mr. Octypoo failed.  (Ha!  Take that you big lug!)

In the end, I had a blast with the simple story and wonderful illustrations.  As it turns out, our "poor little guy" isn't so sad, or in need of our pity/protection after all...he's still beyond adorable though and definitely should have a home on your bookshelf for your own enjoyment.
