BLOG TOUR: Five Days of Famous by Alyson Noel

HI guys and gals!
Thanks for making Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers a part of your bookish day.

I promised you more and more you shall get.  Today's post number two is on deck! This time, we're diving into a new release via Random House Children's Books starring a work of Children's Fiction that reminds us quite strongly to BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR.  There's been numerous movies over the years (and books, as well) that have tackled this particular sage advice, but each one has it's own unique characteristics to spin the tale a little more off center, thus allow them to coexist in harmony.  This one is no exception.  Ladies and gents, children with big and small dreams, get ready for today's book of choice is taking the stage...

About the book...
‘Tis the season for a fun and funny Christmas novel from Alyson Noël, the perfect gift for tweens who think being famous is the key to living the life of their dreams.
Seventh-grade girls like guys who are cool. And Nick Dashaway . . . is not cool.
When Nick makes a wish after the epic disaster that was the Greentree Middle School Talent Show, he doesn’t actually think it’s going to come true. But it does. Soon he has a whole new life–he’s rich, he’s popular, and girls laugh at all his jokes. He’s famous. But when he begins to miss parts of his old life, is it too late to get it back?

Nick is your average kid.  No, scratch that...he's a "brainiac" trying to shed his smarty pants label, gain the admiration of the "in" crowd, and garner the attention the most popular girl in school.  Just what every boy/girl dreams of in Middle School, right?  Um, yeah...did I mention this a definitely a cautionary tale of watching what you wish for?  One crazy birthday wish on a runaway (well, it might as well have been) trolley decked out for the holidays with a "little old driver, so lively and quick" that was most certainly not Saint Nickolas, and our boy Nick is getting a taste of everything his heart desires...right?

I actually had a harder time with this one than I thought I was going to.  Wanna know why?  Well good, because I'm telling you anyway.  *smirk*  It was because of how Nick treated his friends.  Usually in these types of stories, there's a character wishing desperately to be out of the circumstances they are in, but they don't generally step on the "little people" until they're into that new life.  Nick is so lost in his "dream it, live it" mind frame, he's already lost sight of what's in front of him, let alone any appreciation for it.  I suppose it's a good thing then that he took that fateful right to LA-LA-Land to see how the other side lives...and sample it first hand.  Will it give him the eye-opening experience he needs to remember what really matters in life?  Will he get lost in the glitz and glamour despite the underhanded nature of the business and hidden agendas of those around him?  Will he ever understand Plum to even a teeny tiny degree?  All these and more are pondered, explored, and answered (mostly) in the five days preceding Christmas and amount to a birthday Nick won't soon forget.

Recommended for Children's Fiction readers of all ages.  It never hurts to be reminded to celebrate what we have versus have not, and to take the time to genuinely appreciate those we call friend and family.

  1. Loving the cover of this one though I'm not sure it otherwise appeals.
