Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Today, we're joining Simon & Schuster as we celebrate the release of the latest Girls of Spindrift novella from author V.C. Andrews. It's the second of four short stories that together form the prequel for her previously released work, Bittersweet Dreams. Curious? You should be, but seeing as this is the second release, we're going to introduce you properly with a peek at book one AND two, then perhaps a giveaway, if you're up for it. (^-^) Ready or not, here they come! Let's give a warm welcome to the first two ladies of this quartet...

About the book...
Here begins a haunting new series featuring highly intelligent teenage girls who struggle to survive a specialized high school and find their place in a world that doesn’t understand them. Such is the burden of being brilliant.
Corliss is not like the other girls at her Los Angeles high school. Incredibly intelligent, shy, and a loner, she has difficultly in fitting in. What’s worse, a clique of girls is out to get her because she’s not down with their games.
On the night of a school party, her refusal to take drugs with the girls leads them to take matters into their own hands—spiking her drink. Quickly, Corliss’s entire life is turned upside down and no one—not even the handsome valedictorian who had agreed to go out with her—looks at her the same way. Just when she’s wondering if she’ll be able to return to her high school, someone mentions a new place: Spindrift. Could that be her way out?

Quickie review...
My my my... that was a curious little introduction to The Girls of Spindrift, to say the least! Our girl, Corliss, has quite the assortment of skanky hooligans running her school. The attack on her (mentally and physically) brought something alive in her, but whether it turns out for the better or the worst, I think remains to be seen in the original release, BITTERSWEET DREAMS. Still, you can't help but feel for her and celebrate those that got the very least of what they deserved. Message...bullying is bad whatever form it takes, and NO means NO.

About the book...
Being gifted is not something Donna ever wanted. It’s difficult enough to have a Latino father and Irish mother, and her genius only separates her even more from the other girls. They don’t say it, but they blame her for everything that goes wrong, just because she’s different.
And on the precise day she tries her hardest to fit in, everything turns out a disaster. A fight breaks out, and somehow Donna ends up in the middle. It’s not her fault, but it’s her word against theirs, and this time, the other girls aren’t going to stay quiet. The only solution might be to escape to the mysterious school her counselor is telling her about: Spindrift.

Quickie review...
This school just gets curiouser and curiouser! This time around we get a glimpse INSIDE but only a glimpse, as Donna makes her unfortunate debut on its doorstep. I can't honestly say that I really felt her situation warranted a school change though it was indeed unfortunate, but if it makes her feel safer, more accepted, and provides an easier atmosphere for her to be herself, than more power to her. Although, I am still highly skeptical of the school counselor somewhat pushing these girls towards this option. Interested in seeing what's REALLY going on or if things are as innocent as they first seem. Highly doubt it...

School meant starting fresh and learning new subjects, working towards a goal and meeting new teachers whose values would instill in me hard work and perseverance.
