The doctor will see you now... MS. MEDICINE by Olivia Arquette!

HI there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're shining the spotlight on a work of Fiction from a new-to-me author who definitely has the inside track on her character's experiences.  How so?  Well, she shared the same profession for 16 years and if what Caprice experiences is anything to go by, her life has been pretty darn interesting to say the least!  So, if you're ready, let's take a spoonful of sugar to make things go down smoothly as we dive between the epages of...

About the book...
Her new career is everything she’s never dreamed of…

MStakes
Caprice Bello is broke, living in her grandparent’s basement, and in need of a new career. When a friend offers to help her land a job selling pharmaceuticals she’s reluctant, but then caves. After all, the pay is decent, the company car is free, and doctors are the nice guys. Besides, how hard could it be? Turns out, plenty.

MSconceptions
After completing a crash course in pharma sales, Caprice hits the field determined to earn a top award and luxury trip to Australia. Too bad she’s unprepared for mean doctors and even meaner coworkers. Add to that Caprice’s unrequited crush on an irresistible colleague, and suddenly her easy job is anything but.

MSadventures
Before long, Caprice experiences a series of unexpected snafus that cause her once rising sales to tank. Not only is her goal of winning the top award and trip waylaid, but her new career is in real jeopardy. Desperate, Caprice gambles on a risky strategy that will result in either glorious victory or spectacular defeat.

MS. MEDICINE
Fast-paced and filled with unforgettable characters, Ms. Medicine is the perfect read when fun is prescribed!

I can honestly say that if I never hear about a man's problem in getting it up again, it will be too long!  Sorry, I was not cut out for the professional arena that our leading lady finds herself in.  I mean, it's bad enough to sit through all the testosterone replacement ads in the wee hours of the morning (which is like the ONLY time I get to even turn my TV on, if I do!), but to have to know the product, sell the product, and pretty much live the product....yeah, no.  Grant it, I totally respect those that do the job, and their knowledge base is like with any other profession, a necessity versus a desire, but I just couldn't do it.  All the promotions, the tag lines, the free samples, and dodgy glances (not as often, but still), just...that'd be a big at NO from me.  That being said...

Caprice certainly shows us the best and worst of the situation.  She's out on her rump from her last job, given the "chance of a lifetime" by her bestie's recommendation, starts out enamored with the opportunities the role presents, then proceeds to ride the highs and lows of it all...and we're not JUST talking about her sales quotas.  No, if toting the miracle manly drug wasn't enough, she's got a doctor that is having a hard time towing the professional line, another that is letting personal grievances interfere with her sales goals and his patients, and a crush on an unattainable fellow salesperson that just so happens to be minimally attached at the hip to her unfortunate arch nemesis.  Yeah...like I said, definitely not a walk in the part for Caprice...but then again, she does have her own moments as well.  My favorite, or at least one of them, was when she got the upper hand in the bathroom when same said arch nemesis was royally ripping into her and while Caprice professionally stood her ground, the surprise stall guest was simply TOO MUCH!  (Still laughing!)

In the end, we get an insider's glimpse into a world that appears oh-so-glamorous, only to realize that while yes, the glitz is there, but just like any other job, the glossy shine can hide the pitfalls. With characters you won't soon forget, and a dual story line that covers both professional goals and personal, this is one book you won't need a prescription for.  Major props once again to those that do the job, and may your paths be clear of overly protective front desk personal, but I think it's safe to say that the author is probably much more comfortable in her new profession.

About author Olivia Arquette...

Olivia Arquette

After 16 years of selling pharmaceuticals, I quit corporate life and drew from my experiences to write Ms. Medicine.

4 Fast Facts About Olivia:
1.) I’m married to an easy-going guy I met in college. In spite of his penchant for wearing mustard-colored shirts that clashed with his skin tone, he won my heart with a breathy and spot-on Michael Jackson impersonation (“Oh Tito” indeed).

2.) Speaking of impersonations, I have a knack for imitation. Maybe it’s because I’m a first generation Italian-American and my parents’ English was heavy on the Italian accent. Their unique pronunciations gave me an ear for dialects. Their shouting gave me headaches.

3.) I have two awesome daughters that sometimes need reminding I gave them life.

4.) I enjoy a hearty laugh. Reading, watching, and writing amusing things are a must.
