TCBR AWARENESS TOUR: The Knowing by Brit Lunden - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're joining forces with The Children's Book Review for an AWARENESS TOUR featuring a Paranormal Thriller released earlier this year via Chelshire!  It's unique in that it's part of the Bulwark Anthology, and while it certainly stands on its own, reading the original starting point for all the tales to follow really helps to cement your foothold in this imaginary (or is it?) world.  So, when the opportunity to read both the original work AND this new release came around, I couldn't pass it up!  So, first we're gonna explore today's special guest then, backtrack for a second...sound good?  Good!  Ready, set, read...

About the book...
Bulwark- a wall or stockade that protects or sometimes hides the truth from the outside world.

Bulwark, Georgia, isolated, hidden. Who knows what strange things can happen when the rest of the world can’t see you? JB Stratton is alone in the world, and all he has left are the memories of his beloved Ellie. Dirt poor JB and wealthy Ellie feel an instant connection that is as intense and primal as the blood red earth of their home. Unseen roots connect them, pulling them into an impossible relationship. Will the memories of past lives help or hinder the path of their love? Based on the original novella Bulwark, by Brit Lunden, The Knowing continues the story of a town isolated from the rest of the world where the impossible becomes plausible, and logic is determined by reality.

Being book 1 in the anthology series that follows the initial novella, The Knowing aims to bring us a little closer to some of the characters featured...one in particular, JB Stratton.  You see, we come to know him after he is involved with a couple that has had a car crash...or maybe it's a car stall since it was in water, well not really water, but, okay I'm getting ahead of myself.  JB lives in a cabin in the somewhat remote corners of Bulwark.  He is the lucky soul in the vicinity of a couple's accident when they stumble from their disabled vehicle looking for safety.  Thing is...they have a strange story to tell, and upon their removal from his property, yes, I said removal, JB's world starts to spin in a familiar yet unexpected direction.

Once upon a time, JB Stratton was a married man.  The love of his life, Ellie, was taken from him all too soon...and yet he is secure in the knowledge, in THE KNOWING, that one day they will be together again....and again...and again...and again.  Their souls are so entwined, even death can not keep them apart.  This story is their story, and it's traumatic, tender, touching, and beautiful...but again, not without its despair.  They have tough times...perhaps more than other couples seeing how they are linked through time...and they have their obstacles (aside from death itself), but they never give up.  They constantly stay on the search for one another even when it seems it isn't their time, even while living their day to day lives as most of us do.  Their final meeting in this world (for now) will bring a tear to your eye, but also an unexpected smile for YOU know that one day they'll meet again.

An interesting read and wonderful first addition to what seems to be an anthology with much promise.

About the book...
Clay Finnes is the sheriff of a small town in Georgia called Bulwark. Recently separated from his wife, all he can think about is what went wrong, and will Jenna ever come back to him. He's troubled by a bothersome reporter trying to build a story from what he thinks is a normal day in his life. Clay has to admit that the fantastical stories, told by an accident victim as well as unusual sightings of wolves, things are getting a bit strange. A visit to the ominous Gingerbread House makes him realize that his life as he knows it will never be the same.

Okay, so we aren't here to talk about this one specifically, but like I said, I couldn't pass up the chance to see where it all began!  The original starting point is a novella that brings to mind legend, myth, and folktales, such as werewolves, vampires, and witches...oh my!  It begins with the accident mentioned in The Knowing, continues with Clay's investigation into the crazy story the couple involved was spinning, furthers itself with the impossibilities he discovers as he digs deeper into something he doesn't even understand, and in the end, comes face to face with a wickedness that he could have never imagined.  Along the way, true faces are revealed, lost loves rediscovered, and tragedy runs amuck...and to top it all off, the author gives us not one but TWO endings to satisfy our curious minds.  Each one gives it a little something extra...but boy oh boy does the creepy factor get turned up a few notches too!
