Month9Books presents... TRAGEDY OF ME by Rebekah Purdy - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

HI there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, I'm joining Month9Books to celebrate an exciting event indeed!  You see, it's the official BOOK BIRTHDAY of BOOK TWO in the Legend of Me series from author Rebekah Purdy, and seriously guys, all I can say is WHERE IN THE WORLD IS BOOK THREE?!  Aside from the cover reveal last month, this was my first exposure to this fascinating Young Adult series, and while one can start in the middle of the story...if given the chance, why would you?

That's how I found myself reading the first book, Legend of Me...which quite honestly was FANTASTIC!  (Oh, and the ebook of book one is on sale for only $2.99 in the US/CD to celebrate the second book's release!  AMAZON  B&N)  I mean, it has magic and lore, romance and revenge, plus the good old pull of a new-ish approach to a red riding hood and beauty and the beast crossover.  What more could you ask for?  What more INDEED!  Book one checked all my boxes, and had me falling in love with Raul right alongside our leading lady.  It's awfully hard to fight his flirtatious ways, especially when they are obviously guided by a heart that truly adores her...but the course of love never did run smooth, and the bumps in their road, let alone her first love's (dun dun DUNNN!) have more pitfalls to overcome than a New York City street has potholes!  When all is said and done, we're left with what we think will suffice for a happily-ever-after...until...

About the book...
With the Curse of the Beast broken, Brielle Healer thought she’d left her bloody, gruesome past behind her. But when more dead bodies are discovered on her property, everything changes. Lord Kenrick and other Knights of the Crowhurst Order want to know what happened to his missing brother who was last seen with Bri. An encounter with Daedric has Bri wondering if there might be a way to bring him back from wherever it is his spirit slipped into. Any attempts to get Kenrick back however, will mean a trip through a hellish realm more powerful and dangerous than either can handle. But tragedy has a way of showing people what they’re made out of, and Bri’s no exception.

Raul Tinker’s dark past has finally caught up to him. His vengeful sister Yalena wants to destroy everything he loves. Although trained in magic, he’s no match for Yalena’s kind of evil. Yalena promises not to harm Brielle, if Raul agrees to do her bidding. Now, the only way to stop her would be to allow the same darkness that consumes Yalena to consume him as well.It seems like a small price to pay to save Bri. Only time will tell.

The second book in any series tends to be seen as a connecting piece, and often wears this title well.  Not so much here because book two is just as engaging, just as enraging, just as strong of a contender as the first one...just with a lot more times that I wanted to punch Raul in the face for his utter stupidity.  He loves Bri SO MUCH, and yet his dumb male pride, his desire to stand up to the evil forces that are coming, has him making choices that he'd never thought he'd make, with consequences that will echo through BOTH their hearts.

This was was SUCH a TRAGEDY which of course means it fit it's title well, and yet I mean all of that in the BEST way possible!  By book's end, I was SO surprised that while things play out that were meant to play out, there are SO MANY MORE THINGS that need to be resolved, and while we thought we said goodbye to a few characters, they may not be so much GONE as they are currently out of the picture.  Does everything turn out sunshine and roses?  Heck to the NO, but it doesn't mean all is truly lost.  It doesn't mean that what was lost can not be found.  It doesn't mean that a true beacon of light in the utter darkness is automatically forsaken; sometimes it just needs to see its true value, and appreciate its worth, in order to share its gracious beauty, and strength with all that seek its guidance.

Highly recommended series for Young Adult Fantasy fans of all ages.  There is just SO MUCH to love here, if you haven't discovered it on your own at this point, take heed and follow through!
