RRR presents... THE NIGHT HAS SEEN YOUR MIND by Simon Kearns - SPOTLIGHT!

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we welcome Rachel's Random Resources for a stop along their current tour to bring you a SPOTLIGHT on a new title that just might be your next MUST READ!  So, are you ready to add to your read list?  Let's check out today's title in the spotlight...

The Night Has Seen Your Mind
by
Simon Kearns

About the book...
Tech billionaire, Mattias Goff, has invited five creative professionals – programmer, pianist, writer, actor, and photographer – for a month long residency at Crystal Falls, his Arctic retreat.

Researching brain waves, and especially the enigmatic gamma wave, Goff asks his guests to wear a kind of EEG cap in order to record the electrical activity in their brains while they engage with their respective disciplines. Although they will be paid $5million each for the experience, they all start their sojourn a little wary – some more than others.

Cut off from the outside world in the stunningly beautiful, if stark, Alaskan winter landscape they immerse themselves in their work. Soon, though, reality seems to be shifting. What is Goff really researching? Are his guests only being observed, or manipulated?

Silver Dagger Book Tours presents... BAKE BELIEVE by Cori Cooper - EXCERPT + GIVEAWAY!

Bake Believe
by Cori Cooper
Genre: Middle Grade Contemporary Fantasy

Can it be real? Or is it bake believe?

All Cat Anderson wants out of life is a circle of friends to giggle with and a few cute boys to flirt with. Her first day of eighth grade is looking perfect—until a scheduling mishap places her in a culinary arts class.
Food, it turns out, is a very big deal. In her family there is a secret, too big to stay hidden any longer. A secret too fantastic to be real. Something happens when Cat bakes. Something impossible.

“Ohhhh! What’s that?” Robyn waits at my locker, her eyes getting bigger as I walk closer. I have a towering stack of Snickerdoodles on the plate in my hands. She darts around my elbow to reach for the topmost cookie.
 I say towering stack and I mean it. When Robyn removes one, she sets off the delicate balance, making my tower sway. I drop my backpack and throw my free arm around the plate, so the cookies don’t all hit the floor.
“Snickerdoodles.” I blow a strand of hair out of my face. “From Culinary.”
Robyn’s eyebrows lower. “Where did you get them?”
I roll my eyes. Seriously, she asks like I went all black clad and ninja cat burglared the nearest bakery. “From Culinary.” I say again, louder, and more distinct so she can’t misunderstand.
“You aren’t taking Culinary.”
“I am now.” I adjust my backpack by shrugging one shoulder.
“So…” Robyn examines the cookie she snitched. “You actually made these?”
“Well, yeah, with my group.”
Her face lights up like the sunrise over the Boise Foothills. “Oh, my gosh, this is the best day ever! I LOVE Snickerdoodles.” And she proceeds to shove the whole cookie in her mouth so both hands are free to grab some more.
I make a smooth turn to move the plate out of her reach. “Wait, didn’t you have Snickerdoodles already? In first hour?”
“Well, we made Snickerdoodles,” Robyn sighs, “But my whole group is boys and they ate everything. EVERYTHING. I barely escaped with my fingers. Please can I have more, pretty, pretty please, Cat, the smell is making me crazy and that is a TON of cookies.”
True story!
With all the snickering going on in our kitchen, Brigg, Paisley, Tobey, and I accidentally doubled the recipe. We divided the cookies onto five plates, one for everyone in our group and a plate for Mrs. Cake, but there are still about a zillion cookies for each of us to take home.
So, basically, I have more than enough to share with Robyn, and a small army if there happens to be one marching by on our walk home. I graciously lift the plate to the level of her nose.
Robyn takes a normal bite this time and closes her eyes. “These are SO good!”
I am SO happy she thinks so, but nothing looks good half-chewed. I stare at my fascinating shoes until she swallows.
“Wait a second! I need to know how you ended up in Culinary! This morning you didn’t even know what ‘culinary’ meant. Why are you taking Culinary now? Tell me more about this Culinary.”
I brush a few stray crumbs off my arm. Props to her for using the word culinary so many times in one sentence.

Cori Cooper lives in the magical Arizona Mountains, which she’s pretty convinced is the setting for all the fairy tales.
Besides writing stories, she adores hanging out with her family, playing board games, hiking and baking, baking, baking. Like Cat’s family, she’s positive Cinnamon Rolls fix everything.

TCBR AWARENESS TOUR: One Jar of Magic by Corey Ann Haydu - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we welcome The Children's Book Review as we bring their latest Awareness Tour to you!  Today's star is oh so dear to my heart as it explores the relationships we have, from family to friend, and just what it truly means to be magical.  Ready or not, here comes my book of choice and blog tour guest...

One Jar of Magic
by
Corey Ann Haydu

Katherine Tegen Books

About the book...
Magic is like a dream. Delightful. Terrifying. Unreal.

Rose Alice Anders is Little Luck. Lucky to be born into the Anders family. Lucky to be just as special and magical as the most revered man in town—her father. The whole town has been waiting for Rose to turn twelve, when she can join them in their annual capturing of magic on New Year’s Day and become the person she was born to be.

But when that special day finally comes, Rose barely captures one tiny jar of magic. Now Rose’s dad won’t talk to her anymore and her friendships have gotten all twisted and wrong. So when Rose hears whispers that there are people who aren’t meant for magic at all, she begins to wonder if that’s who she belongs with.

Maybe if she’s away from all the magic, away from her dad telling her who she’s meant to be, who she has to be, Rose can begin to piece together what’s truly real in a world full of magic.

AMAZON  |  AUDIBLE  |  BOOKSHOP

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was stolen away by the magic in this one, but not in the ways that you might initially think.  Yes, it was FASCINATING to hear about the town's most magical family, their traditions, and how great it was going to be on the day of capturing.  That was definitely a curiosity that kept pulling my interest...but the real draw, the real moments that stole the show for me, were when we see the relationships in their full glory.  From the good to the bad, the ones built on superficial foundations and those that would stand the test of time...or a particularly hard twelfth birthday...THOSE were where my heart lingered.  Her bond with her brother warmed my heart.  The way that she connected with Stella had me smiling through the tough times she was experiencing.  When she found her true self, I couldn't help but be proud.  So while yes, the MAGIC was there, and abundant to those lucky enough to see it, it didn't mean the magic that those people were missing out on was any less AMAZING.
All in all, to me it was a realistic take on magic, if ever there could be one.  It doesn't remove the sparkle and shine, but it does make it clear that you being YOU is more than enough.  It's nice to have that little something extra, but that's exactly what it is...something EXTRA.  Having loads is nice, but having just what you need is even better.  Kind of like friends...
Have you heard the BUZZ?: The Sound of Wings by Suzanne Simonetti - REVIEW!
Hi guys!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Today, we're spreading a little PRE BOOK BIRTHDAY BUZZ for a new title set to release this May via She Writes Press. It's a work of Women's Fiction that's all about letting go of the past, but not the lessons learned from it, embracing the future, and the gift that is the present in whatever form brings you joy. Sound good? Great...let's get started then. Ladies and gents, today's book spotlight shines on...
by
Suzanne Simonetti
She Writes Press
Release Date: May 4, 2021
About the book...
Seventy-year-old Goldie Sparrows faces declining finances, questionable health, and a late husband who torments her from the beyond. She seeks refuge in her butterfly garden, which is filled with voices and memories from long ago.
Jocelyn Anderson is a struggling writer who finds escape from her custody battle in the journal of her late mother-in-law. As she gets pulled through the pages of time, Jocelyn discovers her own husband has a hidden history she knows nothing about.
Is this secret now Jocelyn’s to keep?
Krystal Axelrod is living a life she never dreamed she could have. And yet the demons of a dysfunctional childhood and mean girl culture from her cheerleading days cast their shadow over her ability to feel whole, capable, and worthy. Does Goldie hold the key to Krystal’s path to freedom?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

At first, I wasn't certain I was going to get there. You know...that place where you lose yourself in the novel and can't bare to part from the page. Honestly, I was having a hard time keeping the characters straight, though Goldie was quite clear to my heart. Watching the relationships and connections build in this small town over time though...that was what really reeled me in. The way the friendships tethered them not only to themselves, but each other. The way their own histories seemed to come full circle by knowing not only themselves, but where they came from. The way we intimately meet each of these ladies, watch them overcome so much, and come out the better for it on the other side.

Jocelyn was the writer that couldn't...write that is. Writer's block would be the polite term, but truly she had roadblocks thrown up by her heart she was having great difficulty overcoming. Krystal was the town girl elevated to golden status by her marriage, and though it was one of love not convenience, there are some that won't let her forget where she came from and how easily she could be taken off that pedestal. Goldie was the long time resident of this little town with a art business to boot, but her own steady stand in life is threatened by life itself, and the memories that can't seem to be held back any more than the tide from the shore. Their stories all seem so separate, and yet there are ties that bind even they can't fathom. When everything comes to the surface, it is with a heavy heart, but perfect understanding that we see the bigger picture, and hear the beauty of those wondrous wings.

In the end, I was initially lost, but found my way (much like the characters)...same as the book did into my heart.  There is a portion of the story where a past transgression is shared that's been alighted to off and on throughout one person's journey, and yet you can't help but feel GOOD about it, or at least its outcome, and still see the beauty that surrounds everything thereafter.
