WORD UP!: The Bedtime Chronicles: Legend of Dadman by Derek Siskin - REVIEW!

What's up, readers!
Welcome back to the most slammin' place to be for dope reads and bookish rapture...Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today's featured title is throwin' it down for it's BOOK BIRTHDAY and is the intro release to The Bedtime Chronicles series. What's that? Great questions! It's a "new children’s book series that brings a unique and innovative spin to the traditional rhyme book genre. Inspired by the creative wordplay and style of hip-hop music, the series centers on the Rimes family: parents – Stan and Pam, their kids – Benny and Mary Lou, and Benny’s stuffed animal bunny, Hip-Hop. Each tale takes place at night as Benny requests a bedtime story – and in every book, a different family member takes him on a hilarious, rhyme-filled adventure meant to capture the imagination..." Sound like your bag? Fab! Let's get this rhyme factory on the road because it's coming up front and center (...and I'm about out of stylish wordplay of my own without sounding ridiculously crazy!)...

This is the story of the Rimes family...mom, dad, two kids, and a bunny named Hip-Hop. The day has reached its end, and there's only one thing on Benny's mind...a BEDTIME STORY...and Dad is happy to oblige. What's on the agenda? The Legend of Dadman, of course! So begins a rap and rhyme filled tale starring an ordinary guy that can do extraordinary things...and why? Because he's super? Because he's out of this world? No...because he loves his family, and sometimes being there for them, showing up, caring, and connecting is all it takes to be the most SUPER of superheroes there ever was.

I loved the fact that readers are encouraged to RAP or READ the tale from Mr. Hip-Hop himself! For those with the mad skills (so not me) or sheer determination (definitely me), it presents a FUN challenge and a way to be extra silly, extra goofy, and extra entertaining, aside from the story itself. As for that story, I liked that it was a story within a story, and that Dad made it cool for other dad's just being them. He didn't give himself attributes that he couldn't live up to, but made the most of what he's got...and at the end of the day, he has the love and respect of his family; couldn't really ask for me.

All in all, a great start to what sounds like a promising series perfectly suited to add a little wordplay filled fun to your average bedtime. Whether you read, rhyme, or rap it out, the story shines not only in content, but the wonderful full color illustrations throughout!  Can't wait to see who gets to tell a story next!
