RRR presents... MUM'S THE WORD by Lorraine Turnbull - SPOTLIGHT + EXCERPT!

HI there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we've got Rachel's Random Resources stopping by as we highlight a title that puts me in a Hannibal frame of mind...without the cannibal tendencies. From the sound of things, it's not that the person didn't deserve it, but it looks like things are going to get worse for the leading lady before they get any better. Secrets beget secrets...and the more there are, the harder they are to keep track of! Ready or not, here comes today's title in the spotlight with a glimpse between the pages...

Mum’s the Word
by
Lorraine Turnbull

About the book...
When Ann-Marie Ross murders her abusive husband and feeds him to the pigs, she thinks she's got away with murder and secured the future of her Scottish cider farm. But she soon finds herself having to keep more than one deadly secret to protect those closest to her.

As four women embrace their new-found independence, Ann-Marie is tormented by the threat of discovery.

A darkly comic tale of murder, friendship and Love.

~~~ EXCERPT ~~~
A phone call from Jim ended the meeting, and his news dampened the atmosphere. The Enquiry was set for the following Tuesday at Paisley Sheriff Court, and he’d asked to see her the day before to run through the procedure. Ann-Marie’s stress level rocketed and she sent the boys away whilst she phoned Elaine, who immediately agreed to meet her for lunch on the Monday.
Elaine was nervous. Ann-Marie could hear it in the fast volley of words tumbling out, and tried to calm her.
‘It’s just a formality remember.’
‘But it’s at the court.’ Elaine wailed loudly, forcing Ann-Marie to move the receiver away from her ear.
‘It’s alright Elaine. I’m meeting Jim before I meet you, and he’ll go over it. Just this last hurdle. Don’t lose your head now! I need you to keep calm.’ ‘But, what if they start asking questions?’
‘They won’t ask you questions. You made a statement remember? If there had been questions, they’d have asked you before now. They know you’ll be nervous. Look, I’ll need to go, but I’ll see you Monday at twelve at the pub. Don’t be late.’
She hung up, twisting her hands anxiously; and then out of the corner of her eye, saw her mother standing watching her. Her breath caught in her throat and her heart began to thump in her chest, but she was unable to move, unable to drop her eyes from her mother’s fixed and penetrating stare. How much had she heard? How much did she know?
‘I think it’s time for a little chat Ann-Marie’, Isa said and locked the front door with a loud click.
Isa returned to the sofa and picked up her knitting, waiting for Ann-Marie to join her. She casually rolled the excess yarn back onto the ball and placed it beside her before looking up. ‘There’s no point beating about the bush, so just tell me straight how Billy had his little accident. And Ann-Marie; I want the truth; not that story you gave to the police.’
