A riveting, magical escapade about finding friendship and the courage to set yourself free against all odds.

Kidnapped and forced to shovel coal underground, in a half-bombed power station, 12-year-old Luke Smith-Sharma keeps his head down and hopes he can earn his freedom from the evil Tabitha Margate. Then one day he discovers he can see things that others can’t. Ghostly things. A ghostly girl named Alma, who can bend the shape of clouds to her will and rides them through the night sky. With Alma’s help, Luke discovers his own innate powers and uncovers the terrible truth of why Tabatha is kidnapping children and forcing them to shovel coal. Desperate to escape, Luke teams up with Alma, his best friend Ravi, and new girl Jess. Can Luke and his friends get away before they each become victims to a cruel and sinister scheme?

Debut author Michael Mann delivers a wildly imaginative middle grade fantasy set in a smoke-stained world that’s sure to entertain readers who are eager for an adventure with paranormal superpowers.

👻

Have you ever SEEN a ghost?
How about felt its presence, like someone was there, but you couldn't SEE anyone?
Ever met a half-ghost?

If you answered no to these questions, you're not alone...and if you answered yes, well that sounds like you've a story to share...but back to those that haven't.  In this story, you meet BOTH of them, and more.  From ghouls to living evil, terror at the hands of those that should be trustworthy to escape from an unfathomable end, cats that should definitely be trusted to people that don't live up to the image they cultivate, and everything good, bad, and ugly in-between.  Our story centers on Luke, Jess, Alma, and Ravi, but it's also bigger than them...MUCH BIGGER.  We begin with terrible kidnappings, end up in a place where it seems the world has forgotten them, find hope in achieving the coveted amber ticket, discover how much more than child labor, danger, and kidnapping is actually occurring, fall into the depths of gloom, but get pulled back out again by the smallest ray of hope.  That ray of hope, that belief that somehow, someway Luke and his friends will see their family's again one day isn't kept burning by the promised of a ticket out of there with good behavior, but rather it presents like a misty girl by the name of Alma, who will help not only help Luke achieve things he never imagined, but join forces with him to try and bring the whole system down.  Trust me, it's a worthy cause.

Along the way you discover the unimaginable places that progress without morals or a conscience can lead us, and how the fallout is definitely not worth the cause.  We are reminded that friendship can be as strong a bond as that of family, and there was a reason the Goonies motto was never say die.  The dangers that await them are many, the rewards precious yet few, but the chance to achieve them, the chance to be outside in the sunshine with their families again...why, there's nothing that's too great a risk to gain that end.

About the author...

Michael Manns’s first writing success was for a poem about potatoes - in a competition run by a Yorkshire school catering company. As a ‘reward’, he had to shake hands with a giant potato mascot in front of his entire school. It would be many years before he dared write again.

These days, Michael is a teacher by day, dad by night, and mostly writes when he should be sleeping. He owes the idea for his middle grade novel, Ghostcloud, to his coal-mining grandad and a lifelong love of cloudspotting. He’s half-Indian and passionate about diversity in children’s literature, and loves books that keeps kids turning the page.

He has a first-class degree in anthropology, lives in East London with his (very patient) partner and their (less patient) toddler, and can be found playing board games when he’s not busy losing his wallet. Michael was an Undiscovered Voices 2020 finalist, and Ghostcloud is his debut middle grade novel.

TCBR AWARENESS TOUR: When Mom Feels Great, Then We Do Too! by Phyllis Schwartz - GUEST POST + GIVEAWAY!

HI there!
Welcome back for round two of Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today's next guest comes to us on tour with The Children's Book Review and features a Picture Book that reminds readers young and old that when one of our family feels down, it can bring us all down, but the job of bringing everyone back up belongs to us all! Mom's are often the superhero of the family, holding things together like super sticky glue, but they get sick too! They can feel down too! They can be overwhelmed and just a moment of kindness given freely and from the heart can go a long way in building them back up again. So, let's take a closer look at today's book and then KEEP READING as the author shares a special GUEST POST just for you...

Written by Phyllis Schwartz
Illustrated by Siski Kalla
Ages 4+ | 38 Pages
Publisher: Acorn Publishing | ISBN-13: 9798885280143

About the book...
When Mom, one day, came home and said, “I think I better get in bed”
It was up to us to get together
As a team so she’d feel better
We came up with all sorts of things to do
Because “when mom feels great then we do too!”

~~~  GUEST POST  ~~~
The Importance of Family Cooperation
with Author Phyllis Schwartz
I am not a professional expert in this subject area. But as a wife, mother and daughter, I feel there is nothing more important than a family rallying around each other, especially when one of its members is sick or hurt. Not everyone is lucky enough to have the family support I have had through my decades of fighting three different kinds of cancer.
That support not only involves helping take me to the hospital, holding my hand during a tough medical test, or going to the pharmacy to pick up my medicine. There is an important step up that makes an even bigger difference: cooperating both outside and inside the home! You have to work as a team!
Not every family or team member can contribute at the same level, or at least not all the time. But everyone needs to figure out how to pitch in according to their schedule and according to their skills. Helping NOT just the sick family member but each other:
Can you change the sheets?
Can you go grocery shopping?
What about weeding Mom’s garden or watering her pots?
Can you try to be quieter?
More considerate of a sibling?
Do your homework without being asked?
Come up with a positive way to distract your sister?
Or with older children:
Drive your sister to an appointment?
Hold down the drama on a day when the sick or hurt person is having a tough day?
Make something special or healthy for the under the weather person to eat or the whole family?
Think up fun or funny things for everyone to do together or even on your own?
I’m a big believer in laughter and fun. I was lucky enough to have great medical support. But what really got me through decades of not feeling well?
Watching funny movies with friends and family! Dancing, singing, going to the zoo, eating homemade cookies, just sitting around with family and friends and telling jokes and stories!
It is not always fun and games when someone in the family isn’t feeling well. It takes organization as well as love. But a family that works together when it comes to chores or planning a dance party will ALL feel better, emotionally and physically. I know that for sure from my life experience. I wouldn’t be around now to tell this tale if this was not true! It’s all about love, respect, humor, fun, and cooperation!
About the author...
Phyllis Schwartz is a married mother of two, who, after a highly successful career in the TV news business, finally has the luxury to indulge in and focus on her “civilian” writing. Even as a kid, she kept a diary and wrote little stories and poems, a creative release that continued well into adulthood. She wrote news by day and poetry by night. And despite battling three different types of cancer over more than three decades, she is still filled with energy, joy, and optimism, and she looks forward to writing more poetry and children’s books.
Her writing centers on the beauty she finds daily: Her friends, husband, and two children, as well as her garden and her beautiful beach town residence in dreamy Encinitas, provide continued inspiration for her verse.
RRR presents... LOST LUGGAGE by Samantha Tonge - REVIEW!
Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Today, you're in for a trio of bookish treats as we welcome not one, or two, but THREE book tours with some fabulous titles ready to be added to your TBR! So, if you're ready, let's get this party started! First up, Rachel's Random Resources swings by as we host a stop on their current promotion featuring a Women's Fiction novel about life, love, and the chances we take. Ready or not, here comes today's ebook of choice and blog tour guest...
Lost Luggage
by
Samantha Tonge
Boldwood Books
About the book...
Brand new from the bestselling author of Under One Roof.
One lost suitcase. Two strangers. And a notebook that will change lives.
For almost fifty years, sisters Dolly and Greta have lived together – getting each other through the good times and the bad.
Except this year, Greta isn’t there and Dolly is feeling lost and alone. In memory of her sister, Dolly heads to the lost luggage auction where she and Greta go each Christmas. But her bid reveals a gift she never imagined.
Amongst the clothes is the notebook of a reclusive woman who has hardly been outside for an entire year, but who isn’t ready to give up on life. The notebook’s contents resonate with Dolly. With the support of her neighbours, retired Leroy and eleven year old Flo, Dolly decides to take on the year of firsts Phoebe had planned.
But, can you have a year of firsts when you’re seventy-two? And is Dolly ready to discover the notebook’s secrets, or are some secrets better left lost at the airport?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This is a story that really takes us through the stages of grief, and helps us find our way back to ourselves.  It's a story about love for another, and the things we'd do to keep that love.  It's a story about the hard times in life and the troubles that can dog us, but also about second chances, and how much the truth can truly set up free.

Dolly was a wonderful character, if at first lost and so alone.  She had depended on the constant presence of her sister Greta for o many years, she didn't know how to be her true self anymore.  Don't get me wrong, when they were together, happier times they never knew....but once Greta passes on from this life, Dolly is at a crossroads and discovering things about herself as well as her past that she never knew, she never knew.  Uncovering secrets she didn't know were there, reconnecting with the world around her, let alone those from her past, is bringing everything she thought she knew into a new light, and casting shadows on what she held true.  Change is hard at any age, but when it affects the memory of someone we loved...it makes it THAT much harder.  Good things for Dolly, she's grown her network of friends, and loved ones, even if it was the hardest first step she had to take.  It pays off in the end, and softens the blow on the surprises waiting for her dead ahead.  Watching her rebuild her true sense of self, knitting the pieces of the past together with those things she's learned from the present, really gave it that extra tangible connection to what she was going through.  Seeing her help others while struggling herself was a wonderful reminder that everyone is carrying something with them on this journey we call life...some of our luggage is just more visible than others.

A great read for Women's Fiction and Contemporary Fiction fans with a great cast of characters you'll be glad to call friends by book's end.

From TALONS to DUKES, it's an Entangled Publishing RELEASE WEEK you won't forget!

Hi guys!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're throwing a post BOOK BIRTHDAY but still RELEASE WEEK celebration for TWO titles that JUST PUBLISHED with Entangled Publishing...one with their TEEN division, and another with AMARA!  They couldn't be any more different than each other if they tried, but MY reading taste varies and BOTH catered to my palette, so now, I give you a taste of each for your self.  First up, our Entangled TEEN selection featuring a kicka**heroine that doesn't know her own worth, but will fight the gods themselves to save her sister from harm.  Ladies and gents, I give you this EXPLOSIVE book birthday celebrant...

About the book...
After the destruction of her entire Talon gang, eighteen-year-old Shin Lina—the Reaper of Sunpo—is forced to become a living, breathing weapon for the kingdom’s most-feared crime lord. All that keeps her from turning on her ruthless master is the life of her beloved little sister hanging in the balance. But the order to steal a priceless tapestry from a Dokkaebi temple incites not only the wrath of a legendary immortal, but the beginning of an unwinnable game…

Suddenly Lina finds herself in the dreamlike realm of the Dokkaebi, her fate in the hands of its cruel and captivating emperor. But she can win her life—if she kills him first.

Now a terrible game of life and death has begun, and even Lina's swift, precise blade is no match for the magnetic Haneul Rui. Lina will have to use every weapon in her arsenal if she wants to outplay this cunning king and save her sister...all before the final grain of sand leaks out of the hourglass.

Because one way or another, she'll take Rui's heart.

Even if it means giving up her own.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OMG!
I can honestly say, just WOW.  It was dark and gritty, filled with a world of mythology and folklore you never imagined, and characters you'll love, loathe, despise, and DESPERATELY be unsure of.  The battle  between Rui and Lina is beyond comprehension, and yet you're constantly on edge trying to see just how it all plays out.  There is one moment where it seems like she gets the upper hand, but if you're paying any sort of attention, you simply KNOW the proverbial rug is about to be pulled out from under her.  I couldn't help but fear from her, and still root for her as she valiantly charges into the unknown, even with the odds stacked dangerously against her, constantly reaching for that one chance, that one moment where salvation for her sister might be found.  That's right, I said for her sister.  It's not her own life she fights for, although she'd love the chance to truly be free of all the hate, crimes, and ugliness that has enveloped her world, but she is so burdened down by grief, self-loathing, and misplaced guilt that she's right at the edge of believing her life to be forsaken.  All she wants is a better tomorrow for her sister...even if it means she's not there to see it....and trust me, there are times you are pretty certain the chances of her seeing the next second, let alone next day, are slim to none!
I repeat...it is DARK, VIOLENT, and GRITTY....but you won't be able to look away.  The messages repeating throughout run even deeper than the atrocities, ranging from the importance of family (chosen and/or blood) and its protection, believing in yourself at all costs, there is good inside most people if given the chance to shine...and pure evil is just that...pure...evil....and it comes in all shapes and sizes....as does retribution, revenge, and payback.  A great read for Young Adult Fantasy fans, and a high recommendation from me to you!
Next up on the BOOK BIRTHDAY RELEASE WEEK duo celebration....
...we're heading back in time for a Historical Romance that's just too much FUN not to indulge in!
Jennifer Haymore
About the book...
Some matches are made in hell…
Joanna Porter loves being one of London’s hottest up-and-coming matchmakers. But her heavenly vocation is about to turn into a nuptial nightmare—thanks to the Duke of Crestmont. He’s as handsome as he is insufferable and obsessed with all things proper. Matching him would cement Jo’s status as England’s greatest matchmaker. Except, of course, the impossible-to-please duke refuses all of her most eligible ladies…confirming his status as a complete and utter pain in her petticoats.
The Duke of Crestmont can’t believe he needs a matchmaker—let alone this spitfire of a woman whose kissable mouth and dancing, impertinent gray eyes tease him ruthlessly. But the people of his estate are counting on him to find a duchess. A proper lady with a flawless pedigree and immaculate deportment. So why can’t he stop himself from wanting his pert, lively matchmaker…instead of the perfect duchess?
Now the entire ton is watching as this determined, audacious matchmaker takes on the most powerful man in London in USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Haymore’s lively new Regency romp. And this show might just be the most outrageous one yet…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Alright, alright, alright.
So I've got A LOT of love for this release too, and if you're a Historical Romance fan, may I suggest you indulge in it post haste!  From our wonderfully uncommon Mrs. Porter to our curiously direct Duke of Cresmont, and everyone in-between, you've got a cast worth remembering from start to finish.  I loved their initial meet cute, even if it wasn't intended to be an actual "cute" in any fashion.  They were both so taken by the other, yet desperately trying to deny it...well, in his case anyway, as she was still trying to sort what her feelings actually were.  Despite their noble intentions, feelings flare, connections are made, liaisons are had...and hearts are dangerously close to being broken.  I mean, what's a girl to do when a duke came to her for her matchmaking services, and the right match, deep down in her heart...is actually HER?

I won't say any more right now, as I have this one on an upcoming tour, but trust me, this is a duo you won't want to miss!

TCBR AWARENESS TOUR: Grady Whill and the Templeton Codex by Carole P. Roman - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!

HI guys!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we've teamed up with The Children's Book Review to bring you the latest Children's Fiction release from author Carole P. Roman. You might recognize the name from your own reading, or from my site if you've been following me for any length of time, as she has quite a few works already out there, and this one promises to make waves for some time to come! Ready or not, fair readers, let's get this book party started as we raise AWARENESS for today's book of choice and blog tour guest...

Grady Whill and the Templeton Codex
by
Carole P. Roman

Chelshire, Inc.

About the book...
Templeton Academy, the superhero high school, is finally open!

The prestigious academy is recruiting the best of the best to enroll in its student body. The school is as mysterious as it is exclusive. Grady Whill thinks there is nothing special about him to make the grade. However, his best friend, Aarush Patel has been selected and thinks Grady has the right stuff. Even school bully, Elwood Bledsoe is attending.

If Grady is fortunate enough to be picked, his guardian has forbidden him to attend. Will a family secret prevent Grady from becoming the superhero he was destined to be?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Looking for a book that packs a punch?
Looking for a story that may be out of this world, but is still ultimately relateable?
Looking for a tale that entertains while still imparting messages that echo across the generation gap?
Want to pick up a new series starter that will keep you coming back for more?
If you answered yes to any of the above, strap in...this is the book for you!
I've had experience with this author's previous works, so I had a few expectations, some of which I mentioned in those above intro questions, and they were all answered in the positive.  She's known for bringing scenes to life, giving characters that something extra to pull you closer, bringing the action and entertainment, but also getting to the heart of it all.  For Grady, it was all about family, both of blood and chosen.  His friends were his lifeline, their closeness keeping him grounded, while their challenges gave him something to focus on because he was a doer, not a watcher.  His family history...well, let's just say it's about to get a little more complicated than he may realize, but he'll have enough going on for it to be a side note...for now.  Speaking of things going on , the new school...AMAZING...but, much like a certain Jurassic type theme park, it presented it's own set of challenges.  Were the "attractions" trying to eat him?  Not exactly, but they didn't want to leave him alive either...especially after he uncovers...certain things (keeping the mystery alive here folks!).  In the end, or at least for the time being, it's the lessons that he's been taught his whole life that get him closer to overcoming the challenge before him.   Do not fear failure.  Failure makes us stronger.  Failure makes us smarter.  Failure is good.  They may be hard to swallow, but think about it...without failure, we'd never LEARN, or experience true success...and that's just one of many life lessons you'll uncover.
So, come for the adventure, come for the super power filled school, come for the chance to live out your hero-type dreams and save the world...but stay for the friendships, the wisdom imparted, and the chance to kick some villain butt!
