REVIEW starring... Poppy's Christmas Wishes by Annette Hannah

Deck the halls with all the seasonal reading that is coming our way!  Today's Rachel's Random Resources tour brings another flurry of winter time reading that will have you wishing on a star...or wishing for your very own GBF, but that acronym doesn't mean what you might think.  Ladies and gents, today's title in the review spotlight is...

Poppy’s Christmas Wishes
by
Annette Hannah'

About the book...
A heartwarming read, full of friendship and fun'  - Heidi Swain

What would you wish for if you were granted three wishes?

For the first time she can remember, Poppy is dreading Christmas. Unceremoniously dumped by her boyfriend after moving across the country for him, there's nothing cheery about the festive season this year.

Dragged to a Christmas ball by best friend Layla, Poppy meets gorgeous actor Gabe, who stars as a genie in a play. When he asks her what three wishes she would make, she realises it's quite simple: love, a job she's happy in and, just once in her life, to do something extraordinary.

Gabe and Poppy make a pact to help each other make their dreams come true. As they tick off their wishes, their friendship blossoms... But, as they discover, sometimes, what you want for Christmas isn't necessarily what you need...

A delicious romance to snuggle up with this festive season from the author of Wedding Bells at the Signal Box Café and The Cosy Little Cupcake Van.

It's a holiday romance filled with oodles of bad timing, loads of misunderstandings, but eventually we get the HEA we're looking for...just with whom and how it occurs, I'll leave a vague mystery.  Anywho, back to the story at hand...

Poppy has been dealt a bad blow by Cupid, and the tosser she is now short of in her life, while still having a hold on her heart, is only a memory.  Meaning...he convinced her to move out of her comfort zone, quite literally, many many miles away from her home base, only to pull a fast one and leave her on her own.  Yeah...like I said, a tosser if ever there was one!  She moves on from the mad stage to the mopey stage, so her bestie Layla takes things into her own hands, dragging her out of her self made cocoon and into the land of life-after-relationship-implodes. There she meets Gabe, and while the details are a bit fuzzy, she's sure they hit it off and are now besties for life, set to help grant each other's wishes voiced in their wine induced pact. He's her GBF...but that's genie-best-friend... a misunderstanding that starts the ball rolling on a time of missed connections and what could have been, but gets them where they need to be in the end.

I loved Poppy's character. She was such a sweetheart and couldn't stay mad at anyone for the world. It was a good thing she had Layla to balance her out AND keep things interesting! Gabe was just a dream... funny, smart, but lacking in confidence just enough to, again, delay what we were hoping for. It's easily forgiven, all things considered  ... loved the way he set things up at book's end! You'll have to read it to see, but let's just say they both get to play their parts...genie and fairy godmother, respectively.

A great read for the holiday season, or any time you need a reminder that sometimes wishes really do come true!
