Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers…the place to be any day of the week to discuss reads of the past as well as look ahead to all the wordy fun just on the horizon. Speaking of that horizon…
I'd bet quite a lot of my TBR pile that the title of today's post totally shocked you. Just admit it. It's okay! Well, it's a bit of a word play on my part as well as a celebration for those books that have only been released in this particular form. After all, are we suppose to completely bypass a title just because it's not in our preferred format? Okay, well sometimes....but not permanently.
The title we’re featuring today is getting ready to celebrate their official EBOOK BIRTHDAY this month (on Valentine’s Day no less!), but I’ve got the inside scoop JUST…FOR…YOU. Yep, that’s right! The author was kind enough to give this reader the “the hook” (^_^) and I’m sharing the “read-all-about-it” fun with you. Don’t worry, even if you’re a tree book versus ebook fan (like moi), you’ll still be able to get behind this one thanks to the length (just under 100 pages) and the story (good stuff! Keep reading!). Ready to meet and greet this soon to be ebook newborn? Here we go! Today’s ebook of choice is…

About the book…
Is lip gloss really a teenage girl’s best friend? Yeah. If it comes with an attitude.Sixteen-year-old Jenna discovers her new shade, Verity Cherry, provides more than kissable lips. As Jenna taps into a source of truth in a tiny pot, this lonely girl finds a friend in a most compact place. But how much company - and truth - can a girl take?At 96 pages, Kiss And Tell is told in alternating points of view between a contemporary teen and a former ancient water spirit paying penance as magical lip gloss. What truth is Jenna so desperate, yet terrified, to have Verity reveal? How is this linked to the naiad’s former deplorable acts, and will she be able to save Jenna from the truth?
___________________________________________
It is said that the truth shall set you free. Today’s story is definitely a case in point situation, but let us not merely dwell on the message because the story, or rather BOTH stories, are so delicious on their very own.
The alternating viewpoints mentioned in the “about” section, share the same space; that is at the beginning of each chapter, you get an update on Amelie’s past as well as Jenna’s present, as it unfolds. If you’ve any trepidation about reading multiple story lines at once, let them go…at least in this instance. Now I will admit, there was a time or two that I was really pining to know more about Amelie than Jenna simply due to the faster pace of her story, but eventually their oneness is discovered (just how, I shall not reveal), and they end up working quite well side by side.
The characters are just as interesting as their stories. The past and present give us a mix of naiads and humans; the former being magical beings gifted with talents, able to aid humankind…though one in particular needs a good swift kick in their behind as a reminder of all that…and the latter being, well…humans. Though the one seems FAR more interesting than our own possible kin, they both have things to share and lessons to learn....some more than others. *ahem*
In the end, it's a great pick for Young Adult fans that like to mix past with their present, and aren't afraid of a bit of myth-type fantasy sneaking it's way into their possibly otherwise humdrum day. There's love and adventure. There's misguided actions and consequences. There's shared truths that reveal the strength of some characters as well as the weaknesses of others. In short, it's a great read and a fantastic way to while away an afternoon...not to mention a great date for the upcoming holiday, especially seeing as VALENTINE'S DAY is it's OFFICIAL EBOOK BIRTHDAY! So, you know, mark your calendar and all. ^_^
