About the book...
In 1865, Elizabeth Keckley, Mary Todd Lincoln’s dressmaker, conspired to change the course of the Civil War. Crossing lines between North and South, the band of conspirators wove a plan that remained undiscovered for more than 150 years until Antique Hunter Anne Hillstrom finds one of Keckley’s gowns. She and fellow Antique Hunter CC Muller unravel the mystery that has left a trail of dead bodies, leading to the doorstep of their antique store, Great-Aunt Sybil’s Attic.
Dressed to Kill is the fifth book in the Antique Hunters Mystery Series. Rooted in history, the series reimagines real-life events blurring the line between fact and fiction.

~~~ GUEST POST ~~~
Let’s get this over with. I, Betsy Buttersworth, am not the mean girl that Anne Hillstrom makes me out to be. Sure, I enjoy competing with her at various auctions, estate sales and flea markets but it is all in the friendly air of competition. I appear alongside Anne in the Antique Hunter Mystery series, written by Vicki Vass, a former journalist.
I will admit I recently beat Anne in landing a stunning white gold choker with a two-carat aquamarine at an auction. Sssh, don’t tell her, she doesn’t know she was bidding against me. I really don’t know where our competition started. It seems that it has always been that way ever since we were girls attending the same college.
Her best friend, CC, constantly tells me to ease up, but something won’t let me. I find myself taking pleasure in beating Anne. It’s become a game to me, and I hate losing.
Let me update your on my life. I own a chocolate shop which I run and operate directly next to Anne and CC’s antique store. My shop is decorated in my signature color-periwinkle blue. I’ve recently purchased a crystal chandelier which I will hang from the ceiling directly above the cake case.
When not busy at the store, I spend time with my book club. We are currently reading the new antique hunters mystery, Dressed to Kill. I need to discover what happens to Anne and the Elizabeth Keckley dress she discovered at the Treasure House, the resale shop where she volunteers. Is it connected to Mary Todd Lincoln? Keckley was after all her dressmaker. I would ask Anne but she would not divulge information to me so I will have to read their exploits in the book.
Besides the book club and the chocolate store, I am starting a foundation to help young girls build their self-esteem. We bring in different female leaders to share the experiences in the business world. Some of them are even offering to mentor the girls. I am allowing several of them to work at my store. The idea started when I met Dakota, Anne’s young protégée. This is my way to give back.
I also retain my place on the Frank Lloyd Wright Historical Society. I volunteer once a month, giving tours of his studio and home. This often keeps me quite busy. So, you see it can be challenging to find time to best Anne at her own game of antiquing. I often have to get up very early to beat her to a sale. I plan to do so this week, visiting an antique house in a nearby suburb. I don’t want to say which one in case she is reading this. Please don’t share this information with her. I trust you to keep my secret. I have my eye on a particular Rookwood vase which is even lovelier than the Phoenix vase I gave Anne during our temporary truce.
Hope to see you antiquing! Thanks for letting me drop by and let’s do it again.
