About the book...

It should have been a routine investigation. Instead, DEA K-9 agent Adam “Deck” Decker watches in horror as one Denver hospital seems to be Ground Zero for overdoses of a new drug. Now Deck can only hope a certain icy, green-eyed ER doctor will help him and his canine partner track down the deadly source.

Dr. Tori Sampson has her reasons for not trusting federal agents, especially ones working for the DEA. But the rash of overdoses–including a heartbreaking case involving a teen–is alarmingly high. And the new opioid is not only extremely dangerous, it defies all the usual medical treatments. So Tori has a choice: work with the big, brawny, and annoyingly hot DEA agent…or watch more innocent people die.

Tori’s the only person who can help Deck break the case, and they’ll need to trust each other, no matter how high the tension and attraction sizzling between them runs. But with every question answered, they realize there’s something more behind these typical teen overdoses. There’s a pattern here, and a pattern can only suggest one thing. There’s a killer on the loose.

Tori and Deck.
Deck and Tori.
Tori and Deck...and Thor?
Works for me!

Okay, so here's the scoop.  I don't generally read suspense books so much any more, or those that could rate in the crime fiction category either.  Odd considering I cut my teeth on them in junior high and high school, but the way I see it, I realized the world was such a messed up place as it was, I didn't need to bring it into my reading habits.  You know what I mean?  NO offense to those that adore the subject matter because HELLO...I too was a fan, and, as the case is today, have been known to be swayed by a title/synopsis combo...and with a cover like THAT, who could resist?!  I mean just look at that...doggy!  😉  I know I was sold, and SO glad I was!

We've got a story that could have been ripped from any newspaper today...new designer drug making the rounds, but OH SO MUCH DEADLIER than its predecessors.  People are dying from overdoses left and right, and the fact is they've barely taken any at all; it's THAT potent.  If the dealers can't figure out how to dumb it down a little, they won't have to worry about repeat business since they'll kill them all off before they have a chance to be hooked.  If the DEA doesn't get to the bottom of things, they'll have a crisis like they haven't seen before...and a feisty female doctor in their face telling them how it is and where they can stick their lack of solution.  Meet Tori.  She's got a family history connected to their organization that's certainly tainted her view of the entire group, but, as she's about to learn, the forest is made up of all kind of trees, and this lean, mean, drug busting MAN-chine also has a heart of gold buried beneath the Kevlar vest.  Meet Deck.  He's the DEA agent at hand, with his trusty K-9 Thor by his side, and he's itching to put an end to this recent wave of drug activity just as much as she is for he too has a history connected to the current happenings, and as much guilt as he drags around from it, he won't let it stop him from seeking justice.

Sounds good, right?  Oh, it gets even better!  Add in a couple of ride-alongs for our Doc and DEA, a few near death experiences, and tension that you could cut with a knife...and you've got the recipe for Mount Vesuvius just waiting to explode.  When things do come to a tipping point, the fireworks are worth it all, but can they overcome all that stands in their way to not only bust this case wide open, but reach for a HEA they never dreamed they'd be worthy of?  *dun dun dunnnn*  You'll have to read it to find out, but enjoy the ride and don't miss Thor in all his glory either!
