RRR presents... The Tanglewood Bookshop by Lilac Mills - REVIEW!

It's beginning to look a lot like CHRISTMAS READING...even if it is still 90+ degrees outside, raining, and pumpkin spice is in the air.  😉  Hey, you can't help what you come across and when you come across it, but if you're a Contemporary Romance fan looking for a little holiday affair, this might be a well times gift indeed!  Ladies and gents, please welcome Rachel's Random Resources as we present our stop on today's tour featuring...

The Tanglewood Bookshop
by
Lilac Mills

About the book...
A fun, festive cosy romance
A rural book shop. A chance to start over. But can she make her dream a reality?

Kazz used to love the excitement of her London life, but lately her passion for expensive city living has begun to wane. So when she's given the opportunity to open a bookshop in picturesque Tanglewood, she jumps at the chance.

But village life is much quieter than she anticipated – is she actually suited for rural living? Resigned to a boring and uneventful Christmas, when she meets gorgeous Saul she is more than ready to have some fun and enjoy the festivities. If only Saul didn't have a reputation for being a player...

Will Kazz become the heroine in her own Christmas romance, or will he love her and leave her under the mistletoe?

This gorgeous festive romance is perfect for fans of Kiley Dunbar, Rachel Lucas and Sue Moorcroft.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once upon a time, she had it all...and then, she lost it, through no fault of her own.  Kazz has the proverbial twist at the start of her "fairy tale" putting her without a job, a home, or a place to land.  She winds up in Tanglewood, rediscovering old dreams long forgotten, and getting to know a particular gentleman with a bit of a reputation, or at least as big of one as a small town can have.  The thing is, she's having a bit of trouble remembering the warnings sounded when she's with him, and the town is really working it's charm on her frayed nerves...until (like all fairy tale type stories) another upset that seems heck bent on turning her potentially happily-ever-after moment into just another broken dream.  Has Kazz really found her heart right here in Tanglewood...or have her feelings simply got caught up in the notion of reaching that bright shiny ending?  Guess you'll have to read it to find out for certain, but I will say this...a lack of communication can go a long way in discombobulating a situation.  If only we'd learn to not shy away from what we need to say before it's too late... (*hint hint*)
I loved Kazz and could easily see her being a friend especially with her love of books, and family.  Saul, even with his reputation, was another soul I saw as GOOD.  I mean, I heard the warnings too, but something rang true here, something felt right.  Betty was a hoot, and knows all somehow or another...if you don't believe me, you will by book's end!  Oh, and watch out for Donald; he's way more wiley than his name implies.  But I digress, it was lovely to escape to Tanglewood, but even more lovely to see our leading lady find herself while she was there.  I was almost heartbroken when things looked grim, but I held on, kept reading, and was absolutely delighted to see where the author led us (and I loved the final twists!).  A great read if you need a little Christmas right now, or something to add to your TBR for later this year!
About the author...
Lilac Mills lives on a Welsh hillside with her very patient husband and incredibly sweet dog, where she grows veggies (if the slugs don't get them), bakes (badly) and loves making things out of glitter and glue (a mess, usually).
She's been an avid reader ever since she got her hands on a copy of Noddy Goes to Toytown when she was five, and she once tried to read everything in her local library starting with A and working her way through the alphabet.
She loves long hot summer days in the garden, and cold winter ones snuggled in front of the fire, but whatever the weather she's usually writing, or thinking about writing, with heartwarming romance and happy-ever-afters always on her mind.
Happy BOOK BIRTHDAY to... THE VERY PATIENT GUS DAVIS by Laurie Trumble Davis, Illustrated by Marjorie van Heerden - REVIEW!
Tuesdays bring the GOOD STUFF as far as readers are concerned, and today is no different because we're celebrating a BOOK BIRTHDAY!
Our featured title will get tongues and tails wagging as it makes its debut. It features an adorable little pupper you may recognize from his first adventure (THE UNSINKABLE GUS DAVIS) that's on his best behavior as he demonstrates just how very patient he can be! Ready to get between the pages? Then sit, stay, and let's get to it as we welcome today's book of choice...
Oh my goodness! Gus is just the sweetest, cutest, most precious little pupper boy that ever was! Oh, wait...I failed to mention the whole point of this story... his renowned patience (*cough cough - giggle # snort *) 😉.
Okay, so maybe Gus isn't as patient as he would have you believe, or maybe it's just him learning his limits, but he means well! He tries to wait his little heart out, and when that fails, and he inevitably gets into a wee bit of trouble (umm, yeah...the bag of cookies he's been asked to wait for might not exactly survive...), his bestie human friend works with him to find other ways to reach his good boy goals. One word...DISTRACTION. 😁
 Think about it? What's the best way to wait for something you have no other option but to wait for? Find another place to put your attention. It's a great lesson for little ones to meet face to face early on, and a clever reminder for those a bit more advanced in years, while at the same time, it provides us with a charming little fella to make friends with. A great story with a valuable lesson and wonderful illustrations that will appeal to readers of all ages, and a undeniably fabulous addition to any school or family library.
CHANGE: Growing Up is Hard to Do (DOUBLE REVIEW!)
Welcome back readers!
Today's post is all about change.  Growing up is hard to do, and finding yourself in the mix can be difficult.  Sometimes what we find is amazing.  Sometimes what we find is confusing.  Sometimes what we learn about ourselves, and those around us, makes it that much more of a maze to traverse, but, if we're lucky, we have those around us that understand, and help us see the beauty in what we might've missed, and the strength in truth behind the hard decisions we might have to make.  Sound a bit heavy for Middle Grade Fiction?  Hey, LIFE is heavy, so why shouldn't that be reflected at times in literature?  Ladies and gents, let's take a closer look at two titles in this category, one that's out now, and one coming soon, that should be on your radar...
I admit, this was a beautiful story in reflection, but during the read, I was a tad confused.  I was having a difficult time trying to sort out whether it was more reality based or fantasy based, and in the end I decided it was a little of both.  It's about the changes we all go through as we grow up.  It's about finding our true selves, accepting our true selves, and finding those that will do that for us as well.  It's about never shying away from our truth, and learning to let the opinions of others bounce off our outer shell because the one that truly matters is our own.  We'll find our crowd, eventually.  We'll form our inner circle, eventually.  We'll discover that the naysayers and the outspoken that were against us were really just lost on their own journeys and lashing out to try and feel comfortable in their own skin. Is it right?  No...but it doesn't make it any less a valid part of the experience.
I felt for Greta and I think those things she struggles with resonate with younger readers, serving as a reminder that they aren't the only ones trying to figure things out.  Change is a constant in life, but finding that comfort zone comes with time, promise, and the moments that got you there will be flashcard memories that created the you that is you today.
The Web of the Spider series, Book 1
by
Michael P. Spradlin
9781665947213
Margaret K. McElderry Books
Release Date:  09/24/24
I love my Historical Fiction and this was a great way for younger readers interested in the genre to get their feet on the ground during this transformative time.  Was it hard to read?  In some ways, yes...I did think that unless the person going into it has an innate interest, it might be dry in some places, but the other half of the reading difficulty lies purely in the subject matter as it gives us a glimpse of how evil can rise, spread, and transform a people.  Hitler came at a time when Germany was down and out with messages of gathering their strength once again, but he also came with vile ideas of who should be allowed not only to reign, but to LIVE, and a whole assortment of other ugliness I won't get into here.
Rolf was a great character to see through because he was trying to take it all in, reason it out, and assemble just where he stood in it all.  His brother was taking one road, his father another, and his best friend another still, but he allowed himself to see the facts for the fiction, and discover his own path like we all have to at some point or another in our lives.  Most of our decisions will seem small in scale when compared to those the surround this time period, but, as the author points out, it's those small decisions along the way, the seemingly innocent side steps, and placements, that add up to a bigger picture in the end.  The moment we turn away from an injustice we could have prevented, an innocent that needed assistance we refused to give, that darker side of mankind gains another foothold in our world...and that's a place none of us truly want to live.  A great start to a promising series that will help the next generation to learn from the past and never forget.
Storybook Sunday...is heading to the WOOFMORE with a DOUBLE REVIEW!
We're celebrating another day of bookish fun with Storybook Sunday! For those not up to speed on the post, I read a lot of great storybooks and thought, why not give them their own day in the sun. Hence, Storybook Sunday appears every now and then!
Today, we're taking a closer look between the pages of a NEW Chapter Book series you won't want to miss!  Whether you're in the intended age group, well outside of it but adore a fun, illustrated read, or simply a dog lover, this is one series you need to read!  So pack your bags, and get ready for a quick vaca at your new favorite place to stay with the first two installments in the Woofmore series...
Welcome to the Woofmore (The Woofmore, Book 1)
The Woofmore is Not Haunted (The Woofmore, Book 2)
by
Donna Gephart & Lori Haskins Houran
Illustrated by
Josh Cleland
Amulet Books
Welcome to the Woofmore...where your stay will be tail-waggingly good!  If you're looking to relax and unwind, they've got a grooming treatment for you.  If you're looking for fun in the sun, take a dip in the pool complete with poolside treat delivery.  If you're looking for anonymity to escape the ever present PUPparazzi, Ms. Coco and Rufus will make it happen...and they do, in this first series title release!  Together, they aim to please, and to keep their VIP (Very Important Pooch) of a guest happy til the end.  Are their challenges?  Absolutely!  I mean, it's not easy keeping someone of this caliber under wraps.  Disguises are employed, and the real fun begins, but the proverbial cat is let out of the bag when things take a turn for the ITCHY, and this VIP can't simply stand by and let this darling hotel and their attentive staff go down in shame.  The antics!  The dedication!  The fun illustrations!  The unforgettable Rufus and his habit of having a nervous tummy!  You won't want to check out at book's end, and (THANK GOODNESS) with the second installment just on the horizon, you don't have to...
The Woofmore is Not Haunted... sees another famous pup heading to this chic place to stay, and once again, they want nothing to go wrong.  The thing is, this particular VIP is all about the scares (a spooky story writer!), but only wants their stay to be filled with rainbows, unicorns, and bubbles?  Hmm...interesting choices, but who's to say you can't have multiple interests.  On one paw, that should be easy because this hotel is all about giving puppers a stay they'll remember in the best ways possible, but on the other paw, it seems like EVERYTHING is working against Rufus in meeting this guests requests, much to his chagrin.  Did I mention Rufus has a nervous tummy and toots a plenty happen when activated?  Yeah, there's definitely a few moments of air clearing that quickly pass, but Rufus doesn't let it keep him from getting this guest's stay up to sniff...I mean, snuff.  By book's end, the mystery of the haunted reputation is solved, and Silas Fang is more than a fan of the fabulousity that is the Woofmore.  A perfectly timed release for the kiddos this reading season, and a fun addition to the series!
Rockstar Book Tours presents... THE CHRONICLES OF VIKTOR VALENTINE by Z Brewer - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!
So thrilled to be hosting a spot on the THE CHRONICLES OF VIKTOR VALENTINE by Z Brewer BLOG TOUR hosted by Rockstar Book Tours. It's a great addition to your spooky reads this season, so be sure to check out my post and make sure to enter the giveaway!
Title: THE CHRONICLES OF VIKTOR VALENTINE
Author: Z Brewer
Pub. Date: September 3, 2024
Publisher: Quill Tree Books
Formats:  Hardcover, eBook, Audiobook
Pages: 272
Find it: Goodreadshttps://books2read.com/THE-CHRONICLES-OF-VIKTOR-VALENTINE
A perfectly average boy uncovers a supernatural secret about his family that could put his whole town in grave danger—if it doesn’t make him die of embarrassment first—in this mysterious and funny middle grade debut from New York Times bestselling author Z Brewer.
Viktor Valentine can’t think of a better way to end his summer vacation than playing All the Vampires Everywhere, his favorite video game, with his best friend, Damon. Yet his parents, who make cringey jokes and call him dorky nicknames, seem set on ruining his plans. Viktor knows he can’t really compete with Damon’s “cool” friends—so their epic video game playing is the best Viktor can do to come close to being cool in Damon’s eyes.
But then Viktor slowly starts to realize that his parents may be hiding something from him. They’re acting very suspicious; they sneak out after midnight and return with bloody mouths. But he’s probably just played too many video games. After all, vampires aren’t real . . . right?
Seventh grade is tough enough without having to figure out if your family has fangs. And to make matters worse, the new girl that moved in across the street seems particularly interested in things that go bump in the night. Can Viktor protect his family, or will his sleuthing come back to bite him?
######################
This was a fascinating, fun, FANGtastic read that's just waiting for you to take a bite out of it!
Viktor is great little leading man that's stepped into the middle of an unexpected mystery with secrets coming at him left and right. You're tantalized along the way by little hints dropped here and there, but you're never quite sure whether to take them at face value, or if you're being misled. The new librarian at school that he's volun-told to help get better acquainted with everyone and everything. The mysterious substitute teacher at the beginning of the school year that seems way more cool than a sub should be. The new neighbors across the street with a young girl his age that actually wants to talk to him and isn't drooling over his bestie. The bloody shirt soaking in the sink, his dad's profusely bleeding lip, his.... shall I go on? 😳 Yes, for a town called Nowhere there's an awfully lot of something going on... and that's not even taking into account the big showdown heading their way, the invited but not welcome visitor, and the eventual revelations that are coming whether everyone wants them or not.  At least by book's end, Viktor has tackled one thing that's eternally hard for boys of any age...how to talk to a girl!
It's newly released status means it'll be easier to find, but if your local bookstore or library is out of stock, KEEP LOOKING! It's definitely one you don't want to miss. Highly recommended for Middle Grade Fiction fans that love some BITE in their reading. Can't wait to see if we get to travel to Nowhere again in the future, but I'll keep my bags packed just in case.
RRR presents... Christmas Ever After by Jaimie Admans - REVIEW!
Today, we're staying in our winter wonderland mindset with another holiday themed title that takes us to the holly jolly side of Ever After Street. That's right! Time for another addition to author Jaimie Admans' series, and it's a great pick for your upcoming holiday reading season... whether you're picking pumpkins, or hanging mistletoe.  Ladies and gents, let's get between the epages  of today's ebook of choice...
Christmas Ever After
by
Jaimie Admans
Boldwood Books
A picture-perfect town, a place where dreams come true. Welcome to Ever After Street...
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but Franca Andrews has never felt more miserable. With business far from bustling, she needs a Christmas miracle to keep her beloved nutcracker shop open... But there’s one man standing in her way - expert snow globe maker Raff Dardenne.
Dardenne Snow Globes have a magical reputation for bringing lovers together, a myth that Raff continues to exploit, much to Franca’s annoyance! But this Christmas their shops are pitted against each other and only one gets to stay on Ever After Street. Franca doesn't know how her handmade nutcrackers are ever going to compete with Raff's magical snow globes, especially at the most magical time of the year!
Franca’s determined to prove Raff’s business is built on lies. But when disaster strikes, and she’s left unable to make anything, she needs help. It’s just very frustrating that the only person offering is her gorgeous, annoying, nemesis himself!
As these two enemies get to know each other, Franca discovers another side to Raff – kind, caring and funny. . But unless she can prove that his magical snow globes can’t really match true lovers together, she’s going to lose everything…
But maybe it's not too late for them to put aside their differences and find some Christmas magic of their own?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Speaking of mistletoe...
...an annual town event featuring this holiday kissing staple created quite the opening number for our leading lady... and not in any of the ways she would have hoped! Her crush was crushed,  metaphorically and emotionally (though that didn't last long because he's an absolute a**hat!). Her immediate hopes and dreams, smashed like so many candy canes for a round of hot cocoa. Her ire was raised as was the watch count on her five minutes of fame...because who can resist a proverbial train wreck especially when it's someone else's and not their own... and to top it all off, she requires a trip to the hospital too, leaving her with physical mementos of a time she wished she could forget. Yes,  Franca was having a less than ideal start to the holiday season, and with the uphill battle to keep her shop open into the new year, she definitely didn't need any new challenges... like a change in heart over a certain snow globe maker whose business is also on the chopping block. Tis the season for goodwill toward men, but here's going our gal can pull a Christmas miracle of her own!

Ah yes. From the awkward meet cute that wasn't meant to be and yet SO was to the chance at happily-ever-after that's being dangled before them, you'll get into the competitive nature of their relationship, whilst counting the moments until one or the other sees the forest for the Christmas trees. 🎄 It's got humor and charm, whimsy and wonder, and enough holiday cheer to infuse you with the joy of the season long before it even arrives. Take a chance on this great series as we venture into this holiday diversion we didn't know we were waiting for!

RRR presents... This Is Not A Holiday Romance by Camilla Isley - REVIEW!

Tis the season to be reading...
Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la....la?
I know, I know.  The brisk taste of Autumn has barely graced our weather reports, and, in some cases, hasn't even made an appearance yet.  Pumpkin spice lover or not, you'll want to trust me on this one.  You won't want to wait until the holidays truly roll around to escape into this holiday steeped romcom from beloved author Camilla Isley.  Ladies and gents, it's time to deck the halls with whatever decorations you're feeling as we holly jolly our way between the epages of today's Rachel's Random Resources tour and ebook of choice...

This Is Not A Holiday Romance
by
Camilla Isley

About the book...
Two sworn enemies, snowed in over Christmas with chemistry that will melt the ice!

Nina Thompson has one Christmas wish: to avoid her brother's obnoxiously handsome best friend, Tristan, like the plague. From the moment he humiliated her as a teenager to their escalating revenge schemes, Nina and Tristan's relationship can only be defined as an all-out prank war! And there is yet to be a winner.

But it just so happens the ghost of Christmas present has other ideas. When Tristan unexpectedly crashes her family's Christmas, Nina's dreams of a peaceful holiday vanish faster than Santa up a chimney. Determined to end their rivalry for good, she braces herself for one last prank-filled showdown.

But when they find themselves snowed in, with no way of avoiding each other amongst the holiday festivities, they discover their heated exchanges have been masking a different kind of sizzle. Caught in a snow globe of holiday romance, they decide to let their fiery chemistry burn bright—but this is absolutely and unequivocally nothing more than a secret fling destined to melt with the snow, this is not a forever romance...

This Is Not a Holiday Romance is an enemies to lovers, brother's best friend, forced proximity rom-com perfect for fans of Sarah Adams, Abby Jimenez, and Lynn Painter.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OH my word!
I've loved this author's previous works, but this one may be my most favorite of them thus far.  The characters are totally believable, their drama relatable, and the sizzle palpable from the start!  It may have started as a supposedly one sided crush with an ill timed teenage insult thrown in to stir up the works, but it's grown from pranks to ultimate high stakes with the winner taking all!  What's on the line?  The most important thing of all...their hearts...but it'll totally be worth it.  Gremlin and The Prince of Darkness were totally meant to be...but it's the getting there that'll definitely send readers into overdrive!  Learning their backstory made us able to connect with them even more.  Seeing them in human situations made you feel like they could be your best friends.  Watching the brother sister relationship play out (payback and all!) whilst dancing around the best friend and little sister attraction (though they both doth protest WAY too much!) was so good for my heart.  When THE dare was laid out, I had a feeling there was no backing down to be had, but the gumption Nina had to see it through...let's just say no one is going to call her a coward in any sense of the word (and Tristan will definitely never see her the same! *swoon*).
If you love enemies to lovers, brother's best friend, and forced proximity romcom goodness, this is one story not to be missed.  If you love holiday hi jinks and mutual attraction that crackles and sparks like the brightest of Christmas displays, this will keep you in stitches, while making your heart smile.  If you simply love a great way to escape between the pages, the chance to get lost in a story, and enjoy well written works, I highly recommend you check out this author's body of works.  They are always a treat, delivering more than promised, and leave you anticipating what she'll release next!
