About the book...
Meet the princess who'd rather wear a suit of armor than a crown!
Princess Serena (or as she prefers, Princess Pulverizer) doesn't want to be a princess--she wants to be knight! But her father, King Alexander of Empiria, thinks she still has a lot to learn when it comes to exhibiting valiant behavior. So he presents a challenge: the princess must first go on a Quest of Kindness and perform good deeds to prove that she truly deserves to go to knight school. With help from a friendly dragon named Dribble and a perpetually terrified knight-in-training named Lucas, can she complete her quest and discover what it really takes to be a hero?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Like a few princesses before her, Princess Serena...err, um, I mean, Princess Pulverizer, doesn't want any part of BEING a princess. She desires to be a knight and that's that. None of this dancing about, learning to curtsy, deciding which fork to use and when. No siree, she's rather be in the thick of things and she's not afraid to let anyone know, including dear old dad, the King. Thing is as silly/sweet as her "special face" is (yeah...that is one special face!), even he won't let her have it that easily (go Dad!) and not for the reasons you think. He's not exactly against the idea, but he knows there is room for her to grow and so, she's sent on a Quest of Kindness (that Dad is a smart one!). How and when it ends rests entirely on her shoulders, but if this adventure was any sign of what's to come, it's gonna be good...
With illustrations to delight, a story to enchant, and a cast of characters brimming with potential, you can't go wrong with this series kickoff! Our princess bucks the trends without necessarily trying to make a statement for anyone but herself, however let's just say, the statement has been made. She's a great inspiration for young girls, encouraging them to follow their own paths to the dreams THEY dream, while also celebrating the different talents young boys may have outside of knightly duties. Oh, and dragons...definitely breaks that preconceived notion of what they are all about.
So, if you're a fan of spunky girls, shivering knights, dragons with chef intentions, and mighty stinky ogres that need to be taught a thing or two about property rights and personal hygiene, this ones for you!
Until next time, remember...if it looks good, READ IT!
As if spunky girls, shivering knights and dragons with chef intentions weren't enough, we also get stinky ogres that need to be taught a thing or two about property rights and personal hygiene. Yeah! Definitely sounds like my kind of read and exactly the kind of non-stereotypical read children were encouraged to read at the last school I worked at.
