RRR presents... A Scandalous Match by Jane Dunn - REVIEW!

Once upon a time, I reviewed every day. Once upon a time, I wasn't involved with the Cybil's Awards. It's not an excuse, but we're getting to the nitty gritty portion of the second round judging and the showdown should be interesting. That being said, I've done more reading than not this month, and today's second blog tour guest via Rachel's Random Resources is one of them.  Ready or not, here comes today's second title in the spotlight...

A Scandalous Match
by
Jane Dunn

About the book...
‘Angelica had always known her lack of high birth, fortune or influence debarred her from being presented as an eligible young woman worthy of marriage. To cap it all, being an actress assured she was utterly beyond the pale of respectability.'

Nightly at the Covent Garden Theatre in London, an enchanting actress is wowing the crowds with her affecting portrayal of Ophelia. Preyed on by rakes and opportunistic young bucks, feted by dukes and earls, even the Prince Regent himself, Angelica Leigh is a sensation.

But in Regency England, beauty and talent are not enough to be considered marriage material, so when the eminently eligible Lord Charles Latimer sets his heart on Angelica, his uncle is sent to intervene.

As a highly respected, hard-working and wealthy lawmaker, The Honourable Ivor Asprey, is himself seen as desirable husband material, but widowed with an eleven-year-old daughter Elinor, he has forsaken all thoughts of romance. Lord Latimer’s mother, the Duchess of Arlington, despairs of her son, despite being reassured by Ivor that his infatuation with the actress will pass. But there is something about Angelica Leigh that demands attention, and even the austere and upstanding Mr Asprey isn’t immune to her charms.

Sunday Times bestselling author Jane Dunn brings the Regency period irresistibly to life. Perfect for fans of Jane Austen. Janice Hadlow, Gill Hornby, and anyone with a Bridgerton-shaped hole in their lives.

This was a delightful turn through the Regency period we readers know and love, with characters you won't want to forget.

Angelica may have been the Jane that some set their sights on, but Ivor was not one of them...initially.  He had far better things to do, or so he thought, but when lives are on the line, reputations are at stake, and what must be done is the unexpected, the unheard of, the exact opposite of what he initially set out to do, Ivor is the main to follow through. Watching him get closer to Angelica was tedious... in the best ways possible! You had to appreciate his efforts on his family's behalf to keep the family bloodline in check, but I had to applaud her determination to not be told what to do. It was great fun seeing them get closer and closer much to the surprise of them both, and when the moment of truth comes, all the more pleasing to see their hearts give in.

All in all, a great addition to the author's body of work, and another must read for Historical Romance fans looking for their next adventure between the pages.
