Happy Monday!
It's another fun week here at Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers...or at least in my opinion (how bout yours?). To start things off this week, two quick reminders about some great contest-type fun we have going on currently. First, your chance to win two books from author Nancy Holder...more specifically Possessions and Possessions 2: The Evil Within. You don't want to miss your chance at these great reads, so take a moment and click on the link in the right hand sidebar under CONTESTS to enter.
Second, perhaps you've heard of a little event coming this July called Got Books?. (waits for readers to nod...what not everyone is nodding...GASP!) If you have heard about it, GREAT! If you haven't, it's a celebration of books and the bloggers that support them. So if you are a book blogger interested in taking part, stop over at the site for all the information. If you are a publisher, publicist, or author, we are still accepting sponsors for the Kick-Off contest at the main site....so if you'd like to see about making a donation to this inaugural event, see the sponsor page or contact us menu option to discover more. Enough about the news...on with the show!
Today's post features a fun adventure into the land of Juvenile Fiction. Whoever says that children's books are just for kids...clearly never read a children's book once leaving the age group of intention. Seriously, they are so much fun and often times have great new stories to share beyond the usual boy meets girl, girl dislikes boy, boy won't go away, and now there's an investigation. (...not that I don't like a good fiction novel, but you need these fun creative breaks now and then...) The book of choice for today is....

Hailey Twitch loves to have fun (and glitter pencils and teeth tracks {aka braces} are FUN!) and Maybelle is a sprite in need of a lesson in just that. But wait! Having fun requires a bit of responsibility too! Will they both learn their intended lessons? Or will Hailey end up in more trouble than it's worth and Maybelle remain a magic-less sprite? You'll have to read it to find out!
Such a fun read! I was looking for something lighter after my last book (well, not my last last book, but one of my last books) and this fit the bill perfectly. There's something in it for everyone both young and young at heart as you follow Hailey and Maybelle through adventure after adventure. There are moments that will definitely strike the line between the imaginative child and world weary adult in terms of your reactions to different situations presented. For example, when they were talking about putting tracks on their teeth...themselves...with pliers....yes, I was cringing. A small child, perhaps not so much. They might be thinking, now why didn't I think of that! How cool! ~shudders~
That's the one thing that does change in our reading habits as we gain perspective from life...our interpretation. A child tends to perceive things as they are presented, face value. Adults tend to consider the hidden meanings, possible problems, and other mischievous angles we might be missing. Neither one is truly bad so long as we remember to include a bit of the other to create a balance. We can enjoy the book the way it was intended, yet still see the forest for the trees.
All in all...a fun read for certain. It will definitely leave you wanting to see where Hailey goes from here and whether or not her new found power will go straight to her curly haired head! OH and the cliff hanger ending that everyone so loves in a good book (hehe)? Yeah, it's here too....but a small reprieve is given thanks to a sneak peek at book two in this charming series....(thank goodness!) For a book full of childhood imagination and a little magic in the wings...take a look inside Hailey Twitch's world.
This book was released a little earlier this year, and should be on a bookshelf near you! Review copy received as a prize through a contest from the author herself, Lauren Barnholdt. (THANKS!) For more information on this series and her other wonderful books, check out her website or follow along on Twitter!
Until next time....happy reading!
