It’s back to school time in my neck of the woods, literally started this week, but that seems like the perfect time to me to introduce a few new-to-you titles fit for all ages! This touching tale came into my life well beyond the target audience, but hitting just as hard because my own dad was sick at the time and unable to do the things that he could normally easily do. Anytime a parent figure is taken out of the every day equation, the unknown can take over and turn into fear. Rivka took that apprehension, and the disappointment from not being able to attend formal schooling, and turned it into something productive that allowed her to still fulfill her dreams of learning, while assisting her mother and siblings. It was a touching historically tinged tale that brings the past to life, and reminds us jut how important both family and education truly are.
Award-winning author Laurie Wallmark writes picture book biographies of women in STEM. Adelina Lirius is an illustrator based in Stockholm, Sweden. She loves painting imaginary scenes, portraying nature, and depicting the different cultures she grew up with.
