Because everyone deserves... A Second Chance by Christina George

Hi guys!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Today, we're jumping back into a series we thought had drawn to a conclusion...but SURPRISE!  The author has graced us with another installment.  *jumps around like a true fan girl*  The series is The Publicist....the author is Christina George.  Ring any bells? It should because I've thoroughly enjoyed (and shared!) the series before and I'm about to do it again.  Ready or not, here comes today's ebook of choice...

The Publicist, Book 4
by
Christine George

About the book...
Mac Ellis is never down for long but this time is proving to be a little more challenging. It’s been almost two years since he and Kate split up and Mac’s still wrestling with the guilt of breaking her heart.

Mac Ellis is a legend both in and out of the bedroom and when an amazing opportunity comes his way to head up a publishing company, Mac grabs it and restarts his career. As luck would have it, he and Kate wind up vying for the same title: A book that promises to be the biggest book of the year, maybe of a career.

Smart, sexy, and beautiful Sydney Montgomery is a top CIA operative. Some at the agency call her a savant, but the world, if they knew, would call her Wonder Women, because she brought down what could have been one of the biggest terrorist threats the country would have ever seen. Now Sydney is telling her story and Mac wants to publish her book, but Sydney has a secret and when Mac meets her, he realizes she is not at all what he expected.

Because love the second time around is always sweeter...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What's tall, dark, and handsome all over?
MacDermott Ellis...and ladies, he's BACK!
For anyone that has had the esteemed pleasure of reading The Publicist series (all three titles of which I've reviewed right here on the site...SQUEE!), you know Mac's track record.  Book one, dreamboat!  Book two, devilish dreamboat!  Book three, naughty hottie that went way way WAY too far.  Admittedly, I was Team Mac at the start but quickly switched over to Team Nick (*sigh*) and lived a happy live vicariously thereafter...BUT, even after all was said and done in The Climax, Part 2, there was always a part of me that wondered, what was in store for dear old misguided Mac.  He wasn't a bad guy at heart but he let his heart choose badly (no, Kate wasn't a bad choice...you KNOW what I mean!).  Did that mean he wasn't deserving of love in his own time?  Absolutely....not.  Which brings us to today...
Author Christina George is very in tune with her fans, so much so that she invites you to email her directly at the end of every book to share thoughts, comments, questions, or whatever else might have crossed your mind.  She heard the masses and brought us something to satisfy our curiosity quite nicely.  *raises eyebrows*  Mac has learned the lessons of love the hard way and while he's not taking himself off the market permanently, he isn't actively seeking another conquest...and then there was Wonder Woman.   No, we're not talking about the brunette with the red, white, and blue ensemble (gold power cuffs included); we're talking about a CIA operative that's deadly...in more ways than one.  From their first meeting, sparks fly but both have enough strength in reserve to let everything flow beneath the surface, undetectable to the other; well, at least until the dams of recognition set free a past that you won't see coming.
It's hot and spicy while still showing us the sweeter side of Mac...not that we didn't know it was there, but it's nice to see him let his guard down sometimes and not be fully in control of everything.  Seeing how it's shorter than the other installments, I won't ramble on too long for fear of spoiling all the juicy fun within but suffice it to say, their hearts run the gauntlet of love like the champions they are.  Is there a happily ever after in store for them?  I'll let you discover that one on your own but keep an eye out for familiar faces along the way...including some face time with our dear now-married-with-children Kate!  Dun dun dunnnnn.....
Recommended read for adult readers that are already fans of the series as well as Contemporary Romance fans the world over.  Oh and a quick side note, the author mentions a story of Vivienne next go round!  (Can we say instant wish list addition?)
About author Christina George...
I’ve worked in publishing for twenty years (give or take). Here’s what this book isn’t. It’s not a slam against publishing (though it is broken) and it’s not a slam against authors (though some of them are crazy). This book is not autobiographical though many of the stories are true. No you won’t know which ones, hell it’s more fun to guess, right? I continue to work in publicity and help authors because at the end of the day I do love books, I love publishing, and I love authors. I hope you’ll enjoy this romp through Kate’s world as much as I enjoyed creating it.
BLOG TOUR: The Publicist: Climax by Christina George
Hi guys!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Wow.  Can you BELIEVE it's already February?  I mean this  year is flying by so far and while it might not always be kind to me, it has certainly been in the reading department.  Today's blog tour guest is certainly no exception to that statement either.  It comes to us from an author we've grown to know, whose work you simply have to love, with characters, environments, and situations anyone that wears the bookish moniker will adore.  Okay, perhaps I'm biased...you can still call yourself bookish even if this trilogy doesn't suit you fancy, but seriously, those numbers have got to be in the minority!  Ladies and gents, courtesy of iRead Book Tours, please welcome today's blog tour guest and book of choice...
The Publicist, Book 3:
by
About the book...
Kate Mitchell has everything. She's the head of a crazy successful publishing house, engaged to the traffic-stopping sexy Mac Ellis and she's about to sign one of the biggest authors of her career.
And that's when everything falls apart. Everything is perfect…until it’s not.
In a city of 8 million people Kate manages to run into someone she never expected to see again.
Nick is handsome, impossibly kind, every girl’s dream, and Kate’s former fiancĂ©. He’s also the brother of the rising star author she’s trying to sign. Now that Nick’s back in town and has moved on he insists he’s over Kate, but part of him still can’t get past how amazing they were, and his sister won’t let anyone forget how brutally it ended.
When Mac is dealt a life-changing blow, it forces Kate to question every single choice she’s made.
Follow Kate as she embarks on a journey of life and love, navigating through the decisions that will change it all forever.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Okay, first things first, there ARE some steamy scenes in this one just like the first and second, but not so much so that they overpower the story in the least.  In fact, between the three, THIS one probably has the MOST story and LEAST "scenes" of them all...though don't be mistaken and think that sparks don't fly.  They don't have to get vertical for tensions to mount and knees to tremble.  Now, as I was saying...

I loved the first book and thoroughly enjoyed the second.  We got to know Kate and her sometimes-crazy-sometimes-not batch of authors.  We saw how deeply she fell for Mac and Nick only to have hearts shatter on both sides of the connection.  We cheered her on in good times, hoped for her through the iffy instances, and consoled her in the losses.  The third and final book....DOES NOT DISAPPOINT.

Kate had finally achieved her dreams:  her own publishing house, a few close friends whom she can depend on, and the love of her life, Nick....I mean Mac!  *gulp*  Trouble in paradise?  Eh, not exactly and yet that's just where we're headed.  I can not elaborate too much because it will spoil the twists and turns as well as the grand finale, and trust me...you'd find a way to get me back for ruining the experience.  Suffice it to say that it stays true to the characters in every way and leaves no stone unturned when the final curtain falls.

Though we get to visit with the characters we've come to call "friend", along the way, we are introduced to a few new faces that definitely leave their mark.  Let's see there's Nick's sister, Mac's ex-wife, oh and we can't forget to mention Dr. Ruth Ann!  One holds a grudge, the other has a life changing experience not planned on, and the third, well, we'll just say she's DEFINITELY MEMORABLE.  *hehe* The good news is that they all play a role in Kate's finding her happily ever after, but I'm afraid that's also the bad news.  *dun dun dunnnn*  You'll understand more when you read the story.

In conclusion, I'm sorry to have turned the final page on this trilogy because frankly, I'm going to miss the drama combined with bookish rapture I came to love....but that IS the beauty of reading.  I can go back and visit any time I want.  ^_^   The characters are memorable, the story titillating, and the exposure to all things BOOKISH is fabulous (I totally felt like I got to go to BEA...vicariously of course).  Recommended for Women's Fiction, Chick Lit, and Contemporary Romance fans of adult ages (again with the steaminess).  It truly is a great read that not only gives you the inside scoop on an industry we love, but the love, lust, and longing for the happy ending we each deserve.  Oh and one final note, I've decided once and for all.  I'm...

The Publicist, Book 2:
by
Christina George

About the book....
The story only an insider could tell.
Publishing: An industry of out-of-control of egos, unrealistic expectations, and books with the shelf life of milk.
This is Kate’s world, but for how long?
When one of Kate Mitchell’s star authors is carted away in handcuffs, she thinks it’s only the beginning of her troubles. As her world crumbles around her, Kate desperately looks for anyone to hold onto but finds that happy endings are truly works of fiction. When her career and love affair hit their expiration date, Kate sets off on a new adventure….
Starting over in California is easy, but Kate soon learns that leaving her old life behind isn't. Nicholas Lavigne is eager to help her forget, but two things still own her heart, the dream of discovering the next great American novel, and MacDermott Ellis.
As Kate tries to rebuild her life she finds a surprising gift that reboots her career in a new and unexpected direction. Suddenly her name becomes synonymous with one of the biggest bestsellers publishing has seen in ages and she’s welcomed back with open arms. At the height of her success the ghosts of her past come back to remind her of the world she’d been trying to forget and the man who never let go of her heart.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This being the author's sophomore title, many will say it will pale in comparison to the first release.  Of course, they say the exact opposite if the first book was a bomb, but that's neither here nor there considering book one was also amazing.  Yes, that's right!  I said ALSO.
Kate is back and better than ever.  She's got just as much if not more on her plate now yet she's got it covered....well as best she can.  Hey, there was NO WAY she could she some of the things coming that ARE in fact coming....nor could she prevent some of the hardships she'll have to overcome up ahead.  The best we can hope for is that our girl will pull through with a sunnier disposition to boot.  Well, the sunny part shouldn't be hard considering she has her own personal rays of sunshine....*ahem*.  Anywho, let's just say that Kate will fall in and out and in and out and maybe in love again with both fellas and the industry as the stor progresses, but it just adds that little something extra to keep your attention.  As for her potential love matches, we've got Mac and Nick.  Mac, she has a history with and a love both tumultuous and satisfying, but only just.  There's no denying his appeal but there are a few hang ups that should give Kate pause....unlike with her blonde god by the name of Nick.....especially since he is still MARRIED, if not in heart, in idea.  Despite his always sunny disposition, we get to see a darker side of Nick when things spin out of control....I say it's about time....though I can't help but wish that he remained sunny side up regardless of circumstance.  The veer-age to the dark side makes him more human.
As for the story. though even I can't deny the electricity the author infuses between certain characters throughout the story, I have to say this...between book's one and two, this one has more story, more focus whereas book one lingered more between the sheets.  It was great to see more of a balance.  It felt like we were seeing the author truly grow from her previous experience.  (Way to go!)  I for one can't wait to see what she has in store for us next time around.  The world she shows us is just fictitious enough to be daydreamed of and yet real enough to....well, still be front and center in our daydreams but also painful, disheartening, and downright hard to wake up to in the morning. Ah but still, TOTALLY the life no matter what it throws at her.
The only drawbacks for me truthfully ends in a list of two.  Yep, two things.  First, I felt that the trip the Whistler was cut WAY too short.  They pretty much get there separately, find each other and then....poof, we're back in New York.  I was definitely expecting a little something more considering it was pretty much their FIRST trip together.  Anywho....onward we go to number two.  This one was something I found consistent with the author's writing/storytelling style as it was just the same in book one.  It's something small, something trivial, yet something that irked me a smidge once again....the leading lady's name or rather what others call her.  She is named Katherine.  She is called Kate and Katie (among other endearing terms).  The problem?  She is referred to by BOTH names from the same individual within the same dialogue sequence.  For me, it just creates a little bump in the story, making you back up a second to make sure you were following the story closely enough and didn't miss an add in character's arrival.  Other than these two things, we're riding the wagon of FANDOM with our flag PROUDLY displayed.
So, in conclusion, a FANTASTIC addition to the growing Publicist series perfect for adult readers of Women's Fiction, Chick Lit, Romance and general Fiction genres.  If you've a love of the publishing industry, currently run in those circles in any fashion, or wish to peek behind the proverbial curtain, this is certainly a colorful (fictitious) expose that begs to be read.  You'll be drawn in by the premise, captivated by the characters (still not sure who's team I'm on here!) and in the end, stay for the story and everything it has to offer.  You run the gambit of bookish fun to maniacal publicity events, self publishing to traditional houses, love to lust, perceived interest to the truth of the heart, and several dozen other things in between.  It's as sordid and wide ranging as the books we read and JUST as memorable for all the right reasons.  So, go ahead....try to read the first few pages because you're merely curious.  My bet would be once you start, you won't be able to stop.
