Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers, the place that finds it very hard to say no to a good book...VERY hard. *-*
Today's post belongs to a blog tour from Reading Addition Virtual Book Tours that features a title that may cause you to raise an eyebrow or two at first glance. Don't believe me? You should by now...but let's let bygones be bygones and tackle this review head on. The book of choice and blog tour guest today is....
About the book....
Adventure-romance author, Lesley Meryn, has lived her own share of adventures. But the one thing she has never experienced is the "coupe de foudre", the Lightning-Bolt of Love. Connected by years of friendship to the sexy action-movie star, Jason Hambrey, Jax, the two really are "just friends" but the paparazzi are merciless, making their lives and their friendship almost impossible to sustain.
When Lesley's Aunt dies, leaving her a piece of property in North Yorkshire, Lesley is mystified. Her aunt kept it a secret. Lesley travels to London and learns her that her aunt leased the property twenty-five years before to an 'Historical Research Society'. The lease on the property is up for renewal. Before she makes her decision; Lesley travels to the farm to investigate
Nothing could prepare her for what she finds at the farm. Miles Sherwood is dark, devious, and desperate. He's the very last person one would consider the head of a stuffy British 'Historical Society'
Lesley finds him insufferable, yet irresistibly attractive. The two unknowingly share a deep connection. Whether they like it or not...it's Lightning-Time!
First up...the title.
Odd? Yes. Fitting? Somewhat. At the very least it breaks things down to the extreme basics that go into making this an interesting read.
Second up....the characters.
I have to say, despite her flaws, I really loved Lesley. She was naive and worldly all at the same time. She was NOT afraid to take on anyone that got in her way and yet could be overtaken...a fact that served her well to come degree at times. *ahem* Her feistiness is commendable as is her willingness to go out of her way for others, even if she puts up a front. Continuing in the vein of love, Jax. Okay, so maybe love is a little strong and he definitely needs some guidance as to when to act and when to be real, but he's a cool cat in the end; no harm intended. Then we have Miles...goodness me. Definitely not my favorite, but he has his good points and the gift of banter is certainly on his side (along with looks....those are working in his favor for sure).
I hmm'd and haww'd. I read on and on. How to put it exactly....my attention wasn't completely enraptured but it wasn't diverted elsewhere either. I enjoyed my time both overseas and on the lands of these United States as I feel many of you will too. All I can say is this. Be prepared for the unexpected. Go in knowing that you'll probably be adding to your potential laugh lines as you age and let us not forget the looks you'll get from chuckling and smirking at random moments when reading in public. It may not be the next best seller on everyone's list, but it certainly will rank high on quite a few. Will it be yours? Only time (and reading!) will tell....
About the author....
Elle grew up in Los Angeles, California, but has lived in San Francisco and then Jamaica when she was a Peace Corps Volunteer. At the age of twelve she became obsessed with keeping falcons in the back yard. Fortunately, for the hundreds of hapless French poodles living in the San Fernando Valley at the time, she was not allowed to do this. In the course of the following years, she took on the challenges of earlier times, learning how to fence, how to ride horses, archery skills, and she even took a "Grand Tour of Europe". Travel continues to be a passion of hers. Her father always claimed that she had been born into the wrong century. He may have been right. Elle currently lives in the central highlands of Costa Rica with her dog Pixie, and her hedgehog, Quiller.
