STORYBOOK SUNDAY: Vampirina at the Beach by Anne Marie Pace

Hi guys and gals!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

We're celebrating another day of bookish fun with Storybook Sunday! For those not up to speed on the post, I read a lot of great storybooks and thought, why not give them their own day in the sun. Hence, Storybook Sunday! Feel free to join the fun and create a post on your own site with the same name. I'd love to see any linked up in the comments! Anywho...back to the matter at hand.

Today, we're grabbing our MOON bathing suits as we prepare for a trip to the beach, VAMPIRINA style.  That's right!  For those that thought the sand and surf were only for fair skinned humans seeking a tan, prepare to be proven WRONG with style, grace, and a well formed demi-pliĆ©.  Ladies and gents, make way for today's STORYBOOK SUNDAY title...

When you think of the beach, you're usually conjuring images of scantily clad guys and gals, riding the waves, tossing a Frisbee, catching some rays, and otherwise having fun...am I right?  Well, not so much the case if you're fair skinned because you and the sun REALLY don't agree...but all the rest is fair game!

Here we have the story of one gifted dancing vampire and her friends as they make a day...or I mean NIGHT of it on the sandy shores.  This is a case of when the sun going down, the party JUST GETTING STARTED!  There are waves to catch, treasure to find, castles to build, undersea critters to meet, and oh so much more!  It's a celebration by moonlight that is just as amazing as any day-lighter could throw, and the fact that it includes all sorts of friends and family makes it even better.

I enjoyed following the story and seeing how the moral of "everyone is great at something, just not everything" played out on the page.  It was hard watching her little werewolf friends get frustrated and beaten down by the perceived failures along the way, but Vampirina is a wonderful girl and aimed to cheer him right up.  They were a fun duo to be certain but story aside, it was the illustrations that really had be talking!  Every page has SO MUCH to see, so many things to uncover, and some many fun moments to share in.  For instance, there's the sunken treasure hunt that lands these two face to nose with a shark and then in pursuit of a catfish (get it, werewolf chasing a CATfish? ^-^), a mummy using a metal detector in his underwater search, and one of those creepy lantern fish being used to light the way.  If you're curious, those are all in one two page spread not to mention the other fun, funny, and curious things to discover throughout the book!

In the end, it was a fun read for Vampirina fans as well as those just getting into the series with curb appeal to spare.  I can certainly see this title dancing its way onto many must read lists and with summer fast approaching, who could resist?!
