Lady Edith's Lonely Heart
by
Audrey Harrison

About the book...
A dashing tale of romance from a bestselling author of Regency Romance.

She is under pressure to find a husband she doesn't want.
He keeps to the fringes of society because of family constraints.
Will the written word be enough to bring two lost souls together?

Lady Edith Longdon is an heiress, in danger of being classed a spinster, and disillusioned with the fops, dandies, and fortune hunters surrounding her in society. Deciding it’s time to take her future into her own hands, she devises a foolproof way of finding someone she can love. She's convinced nothing could go wrong…

Lord Ralph Pensby, overwhelmed by a sense of obligation, and with no one he can turn to, is adrift from those around him…

Two people drawn together, both on a journey which will affect them in ways they could never have foreseen. Secret correspondence, mistrust and confusion, not to mention cads of the highest order, make this novel a fast-paced, heart-warming story, with appealing characters and a strong sense of time and place.

Perfect for lovers of all things Regency.

Ever read a book that you were so involved with, so drawn into, that you stopped everything you were doing JUST to read it for a few moments?  Have you ever experienced a story with such magnetism that you felt the need to share status updates with your fellow readers, family members, or even random strangers because the passage was just SO GOOD?  Did you ever have the misfortune to be in a quiet place, only to yell out "YES!" or "Take that!" when a plot point came about, or someone got the comeuppance they deserved?  Yeah...if you're a reader, you KNOW what I'm talking about, and this one has all of it.  ALL.  OF.  IT!

I adored Edith and totally felt her desire to secure love first, and marriage second.  She knew her heart would only be content if it felt cared for, desired, and well attended.  Sad thing?  It made her an anomaly in her day, but being different never stopped anyone from achieving true happiness, and difficult times never stopped Edith from reaching her goals.  The madcap situation that ensues after her "lonely heart" ad goes live is laughable, but only because you can TOTALLY see it happening that way even in THIS century.  After all, the written word and exchanging them with the opposite sex can result in beautiful poetry, but as with dating apps, sites, and the lot, the opportunity for subterfuge as well.  Then again, having an intervening medium never stopped anyone from lying face to face to get what they want either.  In any case, Edith has some learning to do, but so does a particularly fated fellow...Mr. Pensby.  He may not be ready nor willing to set his cap for any young lady, but that doesn't mean he's immune to the feelings stirred by the right one.  Oh the regency romance fun to be had between these epages!  My heart simply sighs recounting it all...

Now, as delightful as I found the entire experience, there is one thing that stuck a bit in my craw...the cover.  I'm of the opinion that books, or anything else for that matter, should not be judged by its cover...but if you don't know anything about the author, or the story, you have to have something to draw you in and whereas titles and font play a big part of the overall picture, so does the ACTUAL picture!  This one reminds me of a Regency era painting, as do the other covers for the author's body of works, but unless you have a certain fondness for those particular images which were often very "unique" in their appearance, you might put a blind eye to this one and pass it by.  Trust me...DON'T.  If you're a fan of the genre, ignore the cover, and simply start reading because you'll be lost to the written word in a heartbeat, and not give the actual image presented another thought whilst experiencing immense joy from finding your next favorite read!

About the author...

AMAZONUK KINDLE STORYTELLER COMPETITION FINALIST 2018!

Audrey [Harrison] was born about two hundred years too late. She wants to belong to a time when men were men and women were dressed in gowns and could float, simper and sigh.

In the real world she has always longed to write, writing a full manuscript when she was fourteen years old. Work, marriage and children got in the way as they do and it was only when an event at work landed her in hospital that she decided to take stock. One Voluntary Redundancy later, she found that the words and characters came to the forefront and the writing began in earnest.

So, although at home more these days, the housework is still neglected and meals are still late on the table, but she has an understanding family, who usually shake their heads at her and sigh. That is a sign of understanding, isn't it?
