TLC BOOK TOURS presents... THE HIGHLANDER’S KILTED BRIDE by Vanessa Kelly - REVIEW!

The Highlander’s Kilted Bride

by Vanessa Kelly

Publisher: Zebra (August 22, 2023)

About the book...

The youngest brother in Clan Kendrick has become a charismatic force in his own right—especially when the perfect woman gallops into his life—in the latest novel in USA Today bestselling author Vanessa Kelly’s sparkling Scottish Regency series.

Charlotte “Charlie” Stewart would rather don a kilt and ride her horse than simper in a ballroom. But with her younger sister about to be wed, she can’t escape the pressure to be next. A husband has been chosen, and Charlie’s fate seems set. Until an afternoon gallop sends her horse colliding with Kade Kendrick, the broad-shouldered Highlander who was once her childhood pal . . .

As a youth, Kade felt overshadowed by his older siblings. Now he’s a renowned musician whose fame provides cover for his other work—as a spy. Home from his latest mission, he’s annoyed to be roped into attending the wedding of a family friend—until it reunites him with the fearless tomboy who has become a breathtaking beauty. And though his thoughts should be on a new concerto, Kade is soon distracted by rival suitors, a dangerous quest—and the unconventional woman who fills his soul with music and his body with desire . . .

Historical Romance fan?
This one's for you... and me! 😉

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't read a lot of novels that take place in Scotland. It's nothing personal, but the dialect and trip me up, and men in kilts have never really been a thing for me.... but I digress. This book shows us otherwise.

I love how we're introduced to the main characters briefly as children. We get a unique perspective on their future relationship because we were there to witness some of that binding of the heart. Charlie was always outspoken, and more laddish in her chosen activities than lass, but it didn't make her wrong, it made her unique in a place where tradition was the main course, and her viewpoint was more the unexpected dessert you didn't know you needed. Kade was a meek lad in body, no fault of his own, but STRONG in heart and mind. He welcomed Charlie for who she was not who others told her to be, and didn't take offense to her forwardness in some situations because he knew it wasn't done out of pity, but friendship, and that meant the world to him. Grant it, it wasn't instant recollection when they get reacquainted, but once the head caught up with the heart, they were a lost cause without even realizing it... and that's only the beginning.

The story unfolds with twists, turns and surprises. There are obstacles to overcome, distance issues to consider, potential suitors to worry over (even for a short time!), and that's not even factoring in the big clans that are their families! It's a grand adventure through the Highlands with a duo that make a bold statement about life, happiness, and love by pursuing it their way. A wonderful addition to your reading list, and the perfect way to usher in the autumn season.

Great Escapes Virtual Book Tours presents... SOMETHING FISHY THIS WAY COMES by Gabby Allan - GUEST POST + GIVEAWAY!

Something Fishy This Way Comes (A Whit and Whiskers Mystery) by Gabby Allan

About Something Fishy This Way Comes

by
Gabby Allan
Cozy Mystery 2nd in Series
Setting - Santa Catalina Island
Kensington (July 26, 2022)
Paperback ‏ : ‎ 240 pages
ISBN-10 ‏ : ‎ 1496731077
ISBN-13 ‏ : ‎ 978-1496731074
Digital ASIN ‏ : ‎ B09KP3169L

About the book...

Take in the wild beauty of Santa Catalina Island with tour guide and eclectic gift shop owner Whitney Dagner. On the itinerary: dramatic Pacific coastlines, diverse marine life, and murder!

 Since returning home from mainland California and finding her groove with the family tourism business, Whitney Dagner’s daily routine has become a wonderfully chaotic adventure. She and her nimble kitty, Whiskers, often find themselves at the center of the action on Catalina, from staged treasure hunts to gossipy birdwatchers. But before Whit can get too comfortable in the place where she grew up, a gift shop order leads to a stunning discovery—someone’s dead body . . .

One of Whit’s best boat tour client’s, Leo Franklin was young and newly engaged when he unceremoniously took his own life. Only it doesn’t seem like that’s what really happened—not after the suspicious activity displayed by his family’s old rivals at the scene of his death. As a bitter, generations-long feud between Leo’s kin and the local Ahern clan comes to a head, Whit and her police diver not-so-ex-boyfriend must lead a dangerous investigation into years of scandal and bad blood to figure out who’s innocent . . . and who’s covering a killer’s tracks.

~~~   CHARACTER GUEST POST ~~~
Hello there, island visitors! I’m Whitney Dagner, Whit for short, and I’ll be your guide around the island of Santa Catalina, off the coast of California. We’re small but mighty on this little slice of heaven out in the ocean. Ignore the guy who keeps trying to wave at you. Nick is my brother and a pain in the… well, we’ll skip that. But I guess I’ll keep him because, family, you know…
Jump on into my golf cart (because I’ll be in my seventies before I could get an actual car on island—rules and all that) and let’s take a little jaunt around this place I like to call home.
We have stores galore, including my own little novelty shop, and buffalo too (seriously, someone left them after a movie shoot and now they’re our island friends, though I wouldn’t get too close). And Nick and I run a glass-bottom boat tour in the bay. We take our guests out to see all kinds of beautiful things under the sea. Some a little more unexpected than others. But that’s a story for another time.
Our grandparents, Goldie (don’t call her Grandma or you risk your life) and Pops, have now retired, or so they say. That left Nick to run the boat tours all by himself. I couldn’t let him have all the fun. So I dragged my best friend Maribel Hernandez over with me from our corporate world in Long Beach, and we became residents of this beautiful little town of Avalon.
And it is beautiful, even when we have to deal with unsavory people and things going awry. Let’s not focus on that, though. There are so many other, better things to concentrate on.
Like the amazing colors of the sky as the sun sinks behind the mountain in the middle of the island. The birds that flock to the island. The acres and acres of sanctuary. And the way the waves break gently against the shore line in Avalon. Of course, I might never look at the water quite the same way since I just found out that my ex-boyfriend, Felix Ramirez, who I thought I’d left behind on the mainland, accepted a job with the small police department as a diver.
However, Maribel, my cat Whiskers, and I are starting fresh here on Catalina and nothing can ruin that. I’m coming back to my favorite place from my childhood, and Maribel is experiencing life on the island to the fullest. If a little trouble gets in our way, then we’ll deal with it. Hopefully we’ll even get to live through it…
Reporter and bridge player Wendy Winchester once again plays ace detective when a country club member is murdered in a hot tub . . .
Now an investigative reporter for the Rosalie Citizen in the Mississippi River port of Rosalie, Wendy still likes to unwind over a game of cards. Following the demise of the Rosalie Bridge Club, she's started her own group at the Rosalie Country Club. During the first meeting of the Country Club Bridge Players, the dummy has barely been laid down when another dummy gets in a scuffle at the bar across the room. Bridge player Carly Ogle's husband Brent is at it again.
After the club's new female golf pro breaks up the fight, Brent storms off to soak in a hot tub. But Carey soon finds the bullying Brent dead in the water, clubbed over the head with the pestle the barkeep uses to crush leaves for mint juleps.
