Zombie Zappers, Book 1:
by
Nadia Higgins
About the book...
Something's fishy . . . Leo can’t wait to go to summer camp with his best friend, Chad. It's his best chance to finally solve a decades-old zombie mystery. But things start to get weird as the boys help clean up slimy Lake Moan. The Zombie Zappers are in for a skin-crawling surprise. And Leo's half-zombie friend might be the only one who knows what's really going on.
This is not a book for everyone and yet most everyone can enjoy it. If you 're looking for something to reveal the secrets of life to you, you've got the wrong series...but if you're looking for an adventure filled with best friends (despite their somewhat zombie status), summer time fun and environmental challenges, this is DEFINITELY a great read for you.
The biggest draw for most little ones , especially from the male perspective, is going to be the Zombies. I mean, they are all the rage right now with their sallow pallor, hindered gait, and awkward tries at communication, but as with all things in life, you can't judge a book by its cover nor a zombie by its reputation.
Considering both the story elements and the varied cast, I'd say overall this adventure is a great addition to anyone's reading list, but especially those Sci Fi/fantasy fans both young and old. The half-zombie friend was a nice touch, especially considering the obstacles he's gotta face everyday. The mystery at the camp was predictable in design but definitely original when all is said and done. The banter between Leo and Rodger was believable, while the "scientific" explanation
In conclusion, a fabulously fun time to be had between the covers with the promise of more still to come. Whether zombie fan or not, kid in age or simply at heart, I can't imagine anyone that embarks on this adventure NOT enjoying themselves in some way. As you say probably not a book for everyone but I suspect its definitely one for me as I love the sound of Lake Moan.
How adorable! I never knew 'cute' and 'zombie' would mingle well together.
