TCBR AWARENESS TOUR: Embarrassing George by Kimber Morgan - GUEST POST + GIVEAWAY!

Hi there!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers and post two of four for today!

I TOLD you there's a load of bookish fun to be had, and this second tour guest, courtesy of The Children's Book Review, is certainly filled to the brim. This AWARENESS TOUR features a Children's Picture Book all about how embarrassing family can be...and reminds us that it's pretty much that way for EVERY family, so don't stress! They do what they do from a place of love, and what's embarrassing to one person is the norm to another. Of course, the book tells it a lot more eloquently and with eye catching pictures to boot, so yeah, I'd definitely recommend it for a home or classroom read, but I digress. I'm not here to review the book...officially...this time around. I'm here to bring you a SPOTLIGHT, and a fabulously fun GUEST POST from the author herself about her most embarrassing moments! So, check out this, then check out that, get your entries in to WIN BIG, and be sure to visit the other sites on the tour!

About the book...
Everyone in George’s family is so embarrassing. His mom can’t cook, his sister is constantly making kissy faces to her phone, and his brother’s wardrobe consists of nothing but costumes. To top it off, George’s dad is known for going outdoors in his underwear!

Will Family Night at school reveal all of their quirks?

Or will George want to hide under his desk to avoid them?

My Most Embarrassing Moments
with Embarrassing George author Kimber Fox Morgan

In Embarrassing George, George feels embarrassed by everyone in his family. My idea for this book was inspired by my own family. When I think about my most embarrassing moments, they all involve family members. Why is it that the people we love the most and the people who love us the most are the ones we seem to be most embarrassed by? I think it is because with family we let our guard down and can be the most vulnerable.

I worked at an advertising agency as an account manager right out of college. I had graduated, got an apartment with friends, and was excited about my first real job that had a consistent paycheck. A few months after I started, my parents came in to see my office and take me to lunch. The office was nothing out of the ordinary in the way of offices, and my desk was in the very front. After greeting my parents, my dad bellows out, “This place is nice! I thought you said it was a DUMP!” The entire office heard it, including my boss. I loudly responded that I never said that, but the damage was done. I ushered them out the door and wanted to stay at lunch for the rest of the day!  After lunch, I returned to my desk and there was a sign on top of it that read, “This place is a DUMP!” I almost cried. I went back to the printer, where I found another sign. Then there was another hanging in the bathroom. They were everywhere.  My boss had indeed heard my dad’s comment and was having a little fun with it! I was mortified. I could not believe my dad said that! Talk about embarrassing! When I told him what had happened, he said, “I don’t think I said that!” Oh dad!

Fast forward, and I am happily married to a wonderful man. He is the inspiration for a scene in Embarrassing George! We are always forgetting trash night around here and I mostly try to pass this task off to my hubby. Sure enough, I woke up one day in a panic because we had forgotten to put it out the night before. We have a large family and there is no way we can miss the trash getting picked up. I woke up my husband and told him he had to be quick and get it out before the truck came by. He could have taken an extra 10 seconds to put on his pants, but he didn’t. The next thing I knew, I was looking at him out the window, pulling out the cans in nothing but his boxers! I think he forgot we had neighbors! Someone drove by and honked their horn! Oh my gosh! I try to remember trash night now and always suggest he puts on some clothes!

My youngest son is the youngest of all the family cousins. The older boys have always tried to make him laugh or get him to do silly things. When he was about three years old, his cousins taught him all sorts of “Yo Mama” jokes. Not exactly appropriate, but they had him howling with laughter, nonetheless. As an impressionable toddler, he remembered the jokes even if he didn’t fully understand them. We were at Target a few weeks later and I was pushing him around in the shopping cart. A woman passed by, and my son looks at me and says, “Mama, that girl’s mama is SO FAT!” I almost died and pushed the stroller quickly down another aisle, all while telling him that it wasn’t nice to talk about people’s weight! I was horrified! No more Yo Mama jokes were allowed from then on!

Family is family. You have to meet them where they are and love them for who they are — even if they do embarrass you at times! You have to learn to laugh at everyone’s quirks, including your own. If you do, you can all laugh together, and the embarrassment falls away.
