Gang of Sleuths by PV Lundqvist

Hi guys!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

Yesterday, we brought you the tail...excuse me, tale of one feline with a knack for catching the bad guys. Today, we bring you a whole GANG of mystery solving, myth busting geniuses.  Okay, well perhaps saying they are ALL geniuses is not exactly accurate but they are each in their own way.  Trust me on this. Before I go putting the horse before the cart, allow me to introduce you to today's book of choice...

(A Tony Pandy Mystery, Book 2)
by
9780996108812

About the book...
Fourteen-year-old millionaire Tony Pandy solves mysteries from the seat of his wheelchair. Not because he wants to, but because he has to. Losing his home if he doesn't. This time Tony has to find out why the Hindenburg disaster happened. "Because it was a big ole bomb-bag," Tony said. "See, solved. Now I don't have to miss lunch." "Like you'd eat it," his health aide replied. "Besides, maybe it's not that simple." And it's not. Tony will have to face a fear he didn't know that he had-and find out more about the mysterious trust that controls his fortune. Then there's the problem of having squatters on the estate, one of whom just might be the love of Tony's life. On top of that? She brought her boyfriend. As if the mystery wasn't trouble enough.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tony's back and just as cranky and controlling as ever...only this time, add JEALOUS to the mix and you've really got a hot-rodding teen about to explode.
Book two of this growing series finds Tony picking up just where we left off...as in literally about two days after the first book ends.  In order for him to keep the roof over his (and his mother's!) heads and remain in (some) control of his estate, he must get to work on the next mystery as assigned by those that pull the purse strings.  Curious as to who this person or persons really are, and what their true purpose in having Tony jump (figuratively speaking...mostly) through all these hoops is about, but that's an answer to be found another time.  Yes readers, here we receive answers only in the short term sense, not the overall picture but that doesn't make them any less important.  This time around, we're talking a HINDENBURG size mystery to solve and only 30...correction, 28 and dwindling days to do it.  No pressure, after all he's a genius, right?  Well...even geniuses can be distracted and his particular "shiny object" is the presence of Juni...and Dirk.  Juni (aka Juniper) is his heart's desire while Dirk is unexpected and unwanted competition.  Can Tony solve more than just why the "big ole gas bag" blew?  Will he keep his snarky, belittling nature in check long enough to win the girl (and not blow her up!)?  Will his mother ever leave her house or Hawes not end up riding something uber dangerous?  All will be revealed in due time..
So, as you can see, it's quite the story and despite being a sequel, does not suffer from a case of the "Sophomore slump".  You know, that dreaded syndrome second releases can be afflicted with that makes you wonder...why in the world am I reading this!  Here, so not the case.  Tony is just as I remember, testy and impatient, smart yet not in all areas, and despite wanting to give up, never actually carrying through.  Glad to see Hawes is still around because really, with Tony's tantrums and access to information, you really never know.  Juniper's continued appearance is not unexpected (though it does take a little getting use to with her text speak) but her tag-along "friend-who-wants-to-be-more" certainly is.  I see why Tony doesn't like the guy, I'm not really a fan either, but his longevity within the series is questionable....as in we may be seeing more of him but I don't necessarily think Juni will be for long.  *fingers crossed*
All in all, a great addition to this growing Mystery and Adventure series for Kids Fiction fans.  There's a little something for everyone from danger and missions (im)possible,to young love and jealousy.  Whether you've read the first installment (recommended!) or choose to jump in here, you won't be lost but you will be ready for more.
BLOG TOUR: Inspector Dewey by Kristen Heimerl
Hi guys!
Welcome back to another week here at Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Today, we're on the case as iRead Book Tours swings by with a Picture Book title that is going to knock your socks off. Don't believe me? But it's elementary my dear readers! Elementary indeed. So, if you would please make your way to your coziest reading nook and grab the nearest fur baby, it's time to meet today's book of choice...
About the book...
My name is Dewey--Inspector Dewey.
I live in the big green house on Hampshire Avenue with my family: Thumper, Lily, and Anna. I am the Big Cat—responsible for keeping everyone safe and in order. I do this quite well, in spite of the fact that managing my family is like, well, herding cats!
Mostly our life is peaceful. But one night it wasn’t. That was the night the bad guy showed up on our block. Of course, I knew exactly how to outsmart the outlaw, but—miserable mullet!—would Anna and the police understand my instructions?
To find out how the adventure ended, you’ll have to read my book. But I’ll give you a hint: there’s a reason I’m called Inspector Dewey.
This is the most adorable book ever!  No, seriously. From the moment it first arrived looking like this...
....I knew something special was about to be unleashed. I opened the box, taking care not to cut too deep for fear of damaging the book within. Slowly, I opened the envelope, peeking inside when my curiosity could simply stand no more, only to find...
...you gotta admit; packaging can go a long way in making something more appealing, not that this needed any additional help in that department.
From the moment my eyes gazed upon the cover to the final page turn, I was hooked. Dewey is a remarkable cat with super kitty powers that are proven rather valuable time and time again. He's the leader of his little family and rightfully so being the most curious and take charge feline of the bunch. The bunch to which I am referring would be his family consisting of Thumper (larger cat that loves life, in all its flavors), Lily (the youngest and most playful), and Anna (their human). Four peas in a pod that love each other dearly, but when danger comes to their neighborhood, they don't take it laying down. They put their pretty little heads together and with stealth, finesse, and kitty intuition, they manage to save the day for the whole town! Go kitties, go!
As I said, a wonderful story but the gold star recipient, to me, would be the illustrator. I simply could not get enough of these gorgeous pictures! From the warm and fuzzy color palette chosen to the sweetness conveyed in each kitty's face to the little inspector himself, there isn't a page that I didn't "ahh" and "ooh" over. Seriously. I would hang these images on my walls, frame them for a classroom or library, or even gift them to an expectant mother for their nursery. They are JUST that good!
To conclude, a grand adventure fit for felines and their human counterparts alike. There isn't a soul out there that wouldn't enjoy some aspect of this wonderful little book. From it's wit and charm to it's amazing illustrations, there's a bit of bookish magic for everyone.
Baba Yaga's Assistant by Marika McCoola
 Hi there!
 Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Today, we're shining the spotlight on a title fresh from the presses (okay, it released last month) and ready for your upcoming SPOOKY to read list.  It takes a folktale of old, gives it a good shake of here and now, and presents us with a final presentation that is appealing both word wise and visually.  Yes, my friends.  We're going where this reader doesn't go very often but in the Middle Grade variety of things...the Graphic Novel!  Ready, set, here it comes.  Today's book of choice is...
by
Marika McCoola
Illustrated by
Emily Carroll
9780763669614
Candlewick Press
About the book...
Most children think twice before braving a haunted wood filled with terrifying beasties to match wits with a witch, but not Masha. Her beloved grandma taught her many things: that stories are useful, that magic is fickle, that nothing is too difficult or too dirty to clean. The fearsome witch of folklore needs an assistant, and Masha needs an adventure. She may be clever enough to enter Baba Yaga’s house-on-chicken-legs, but within its walls, deceit is the rule. To earn her place, Masha must pass a series of tests, outfox a territorial bear, and make dinner for her host. No easy task, with children on the menu!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

 I don't know about you but when this witch of old starts creeping her way into the conversation, I'm thinking HALLOWEEN!  I know, I know.  She's not just around at that time of year and it's children she's really after according to legend (Whew!  Positive side of being an adult!), but for me her epic creepiness goes hand in hand with pumpkins, scary stories, dark moonless nights, and creatures howling at the moon.  Just the way my mind works.  Anywho...

From the moment I opened the cover, I was already surprised. Well, truly I was prior to the opening because really, did you catch a glimpse of that cover?  Uber creepy!  But I digress...moving past the fab cover and into the story, I did not see that opening coming.  It spoke about family and togetherness with such a straight forward, realistic approach you don't normally find in MG lit.  Here, the girls are not fond of each other or the fact that they may become step-siblings and they let you know it, point blank.  The rivalry that ensues pushes Masha to seek out a life she's only imagined but what she in turn discovers is something far greater.  Lessons on the value of honesty, the importance of caring for others, and how much family truly means, are but a few of those found within...all learned while enjoying the visual feast provided by the illustrations.  (Still can't get over the house's appearance!)

All in all, this is one spooky read that combines a little of the old with a little of the new making it easier for today's youth to connect with.  It's great when a book can balance on the edutainment line without anyone truly being the wiser.  Hey, folklore and myths are a part of our histories.  There is always some kernel of truth to them, no matter how small.  Here the lessons learned (outside of how to outsmart Baba Yaga...though those are rather handy, just in case) are what will carry forward with you after book's end.

Jewell by Tina DeSalvo

Hi guys and gals!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.

For those of you that follow me on Twitter, you may have noticed my rants of late (well, the last 48 hours or so) about my laptop.  It may have completely bit the dust just out of the blue.  It's only about two years old and one day fine, the next SPLAT.  Nothing.  It's processing a complete wipe of the system today, so we'll see what happens when I get home (*fingers crossed*).  Worst case scenario, there's another in the house I can use...aside from my still-working-yet-incredibly-slow-ten-year-old-HP-running-WindowsXP...best case, it's back in action minus some files/programs.  *sigh*  Computers...ugh.  Definitely a love/hate relationship, but I believe it deserves a second chance if it makes it through all of this, just like the characters in this story...

Did you like that little transition?  ^-^  Seriously though, it falls right in line with today's featured title.  It came to my attention thanks to the fab team at Author Marketing Experts, Inc and while it is the second book in a series, it reads perfectly well on its own.  Don't you just love it when that happens?  Now, I for one will be backtracking to the first book just as soon as I have a chance but for now, let's dive into this bayou read with both feet, shall we?  Today's book of choice is...

A Second Chance Novel, Book 2
by
Tina DeSalvo

About the book...
Once invited into New Orleans’ historic mansions to evaluate prized antiques, Dr. Jewell Duet held a coveted professorship at a top university. With her deep knowledge of Louisiana history and antiquities, she was the go-to person for anyone requiring professional appraisals. But, one hasty decision cost her both her reputation and possibly her freedom. Now, as she waits to discover if her future includes prison, Jewell knows that taking the job at Sugar Mill is necessary if she is to support her beloved grandmother who has advanced dementia.

Charming, sexy lawyer Beau Bienvenu's attraction to the intriguing historian vies with his distrust of her motives. Beau has one simple goal when it comes to the family that rescued him and made him part of their clan…protect them at all costs. He doesn't trust Jewell, nor her reason for taking the lowly job at Sugar Mill Plantation. What is she really up to? Is it possible Jewell and her quirky grandmother are there to try to profit from a Bienvenu family mystery? If so, both women are out of luck.

Jewell and Beau are at odds about almost everything. The only things they agree on are that family is everything…and that their mutual attraction is inconvenient.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 The story is certainly not as simple as it seems but it's filled with heart, laughter, tears, and secrets.  That last one is what drives a wedge between many of the characters but by book's end, all is revealed.  Along the way, we discover the intricate nature of antiquities, the ups and downs of health decline in our loved ones experienced up close and personal, and why the benefit of the doubt should be extended to everyone.  The trips down memory lane are beautiful as is the scenery depicted in the passages as we explore the backcountry of Louisiana.  Never been there myself, but I've heard it's rather nice.  Anywho, while I loved the story as it simmered along, the real draw for me were those within it.
I really enjoyed the characters in this one. Jewell may be down but she's definitely not out.  I heart her character from her unassuming beauty and spirited attitude to her colorfully cute collection of wellies.  She's a kind soul (as evidenced with her care of Mignon) with much to give and deserving of much more than a second chance.  Mignon is a sweet old soul.  Life may be throwing her lemons but she's turning them into her own version of lemonade.  The tender passages shared from her mind really touch your heart.  Elli may not be family, but she makes sure to extend her kind heart to all; a friend worth making indeed (definitely have to explore her story as told in the first book). Beau on the other hand...goodness me!  I admit he's charming, anyone with a pulse can tell you that, but his instant penchant to suspect Jewell is up to something, made me cringe from head to toe.  I mean seriously!  I understand doubt and mistrust go with his line of work (lawyer...now you know why there are so many jokes about them!) but this much is ridiculous!  The evidence in support of her true nature is there while that supporting the case against is circumstantial and veiled at best.  Guess it's just the nature of the person...but once he gets his head on straight, watch out buddy; there's no stopping him (in more ways than one!).
All in all, a wonderful story and a good reminder to give people the benefit of the doubt. The love I have for the characters I met along the way (both mentioned and not because the whole cast is wonderful) is greater than I can say. I even grew to love Beau even though I SERIOUSLY wanted to swat him upside the head and drop him by the side of the road throughout most the story.  The final revelations come about in their own time, so don't go in expecting to get the whole scoop up front.  Like most things in the Bayou, they let things take their own course and you just go along for the ride.  Recommended read for Women's Fiction and Contemporary Romance fans in their later teens through adult years.
BLOG TOUR: Starlight on Willow Lake by Susan Wiggs - REVIEW + GIVEAWAY!
Hi guys and gals!
Welcome back to the Friday edition of Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Well now, I don't know about all of you, but I've had a BUSY week!  Between staying on top of my reading/reviewing commitments (made it!), trudging through the craziness of work (umm, survived it?), concerning over my Mom's surgery (past and present), and life in general, it's been a week indeed.  There was a little sunshine breaking through the clouds though, but more on that proud moment another day.  Instead, let's take a page from all I just shared and step right into today's post.
Today, we're playing host to the final stop along the TLC Book Tours promotion for author Susan Wiggs' latest addition to The Lakeshore Chronicles. It may be book eleven (yes, ELEVEN) but seeing as how I'm new to the series and haven't read a stitch of the previous releases, I can quite honestly say that it works VERY WELL as a stand alone.  Ready or not readers, here comes today's blog tour star and book of choice fresh from my mind to your eyes...
The Lakeshore Chronicles, Book 11
About the book...
When caregiver Faith McCallum arrives at the enchanted lakeside estate of Avalon’s renowned Bellamy family, she’s intent on rebuilding her shattered life and giving her two daughters a chance at a better future. But she faces a formidable challenge in the form of her stubborn and difficult new employer, Alice Bellamy. While Faith proves a worthy match for her sharp-tongued client, she often finds herself at a loss for words in the presence of Mason Bellamy—Alice’s charismatic son, who clearly longs to escape the family mansion and return to his fast-paced, exciting life in Manhattan…and his beautiful, jet-setting fiancée.
The last place Mason wants to be is a remote town in the Catskills, far from his life in the city, and Faith McCallum is supposed to be the key to his escape. Hiring the gentle-hearted yet strong-willed caregiver as a live-in nurse gives his mother companionship and Mason the freedom to return to his no-attachments routine. For Faith, it means stability for her daughters and a much-needed new home. When Faith makes a chilling discovery about Alice’s accident, Mason is forced to reconsider his desire to keep everyone, including his mother, at a distance. Now he finds himself wondering if the supercharged life he’s created for himself is what he truly wants…and whether exploring his past might lead to a new life—and lasting love—on the tranquil shores of Willow Lake.
When contemplating how to describe this one, words truly failed me.  Okay, that's technically not true.  The words were coming, flowing much like the waters of Niagara Falls...and in just as large a quantity.  So, in an extreme effort to control the length of this post and still share some of the more magical moments with all of you, I do believe we'll tackle this one through the updates from my GoodReads timeline.  *ahem*  Here we go...
page 60
15.0%"I love the whole lot of them already and truly think Faith is gonna be the fix for this family. Just have a feeling..."
Okay, so I'd only truly just begun but they had already made a lasting impression on me.  From the entire Bellamy clan to Faith and her darling girls, the town and townspeople, there was no end to the enchantment and attachment I was already feeling towards each and every one.
page 78
20.0%"Oh my goodness. Ruby you are the sweetest thing ever. *wipes tears* Perhaps you and your sister are just as much a part of the solution to this family..."
Notice the limited number of pages that passed between this and the last update?  That's me sharing in moderation as as not to inundate your timelines with every little thing that dazzled.  But this one?  There was no way I could let it slip by.  By this point, we've seen everyone's true colors (for the most part) and though I love them all, Ruby just stole the show right here.  Her honesty and innocence, the fact that she states her mind in the most nonjudgmental way, makes it easy to fall under her spell.
page 112
29.0%"Oh my. I have a feeling I should just keep the tissues close at hand. The story of Faith and Dennis...heart breaking."
Another touching moment, this time form the memories of Faith and her dearly departed, Dennis.  Oh my goodness, I could tear up just thinking of it now.  It was so tender and sweet. The love they had for each other and those final moments...I just...*gasp...sob*
page 117
30.0%"Isn't it funny how we remember little details like that even later on? (second grade teacher's name...mine was Ms Dorothy)"
That's something this story definitely reminds us...it's not the biggest and grandest gestures that we remember in the end, but those little quiet moments that we never saw coming.
page 121
31.0%"I'm pretty solid in my belief of what happened with the stair incident. The real question is what provoked it all of a sudden..."
Notice we're still in the beginning portion of the book, right?  See?  I told you it was hard to exercise restraint when updating my reading progress with this one.  At this junction in the story, we're diving deeper into the secrets keeping the Bellamy family at arm's length from each other...the devastating effects they had over time.  Word to the wise...the truth shall set you free is not just an expression, but something best followed in the here and now versus years later.
page 149
38.0%"So many pieces just slid into place without anything being fully spelled out. What a road ahead..."
Now was when we started getting to the good stuff...or rather even better stuff.  Family starts to come together, things left to fester in the dark are brought to light, and new strength is found where once it seemed hopelessly lost.
age 328
85.0%"So many hopes in the air right now... *fingers crossed*"
...and then we came to the end.  Oh so many pages between there and here but with the story unfolding at a more rapid pace, I had no choice but to immerse myself fully in the story, updates be darned!  But don't worry, I'm not quite finished with you or the book yet.
This is a book where you'll come for the story but you'll stay for the characters.  Faith, Mason, and Alice share the lead roles equally, with Cara and Ruby not so far behind.  I adored Alice in her full blown matriarch role and by "full blown" I mean in the attitude department.  She didn't bat an eye at putting someone in their place, even if it was misguided at times...but all it took to break the seal on her heart was the kindness of a little girl and a true connection with her family.  Speaking of family, Mason could be bull headed at times and definitely had a "hero" complex (but in the most wonderful way possible), but I loved him nonetheless.  Saying the heart that beat within was made of gold sounds cliche, but the truth is the truth.  Faith and her girls were an AMAZING bunch, having survived so much but still managing to be one unit connected through unending love.  It was touching to see their independence crumble just a bit when the warmth of love unexpected broke through their carefully built walls.
To conclude because my promise to keep this short seems to have fallen by the wayside, a fabulous read for fans of Women's Fiction and Contemporary Romance of all ages.  There's no need for a language or content warning because it may have sparks but remains clean.  I, for one, can't wait to check out the rest of the series to see what I've been missing and I think many of you might just be joining me on that quest.
Because everyone deserves... A Second Chance by Christina George
Hi guys!
Welcome back to Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers.
Today, we're jumping back into a series we thought had drawn to a conclusion...but SURPRISE!  The author has graced us with another installment.  *jumps around like a true fan girl*  The series is The Publicist....the author is Christina George.  Ring any bells? It should because I've thoroughly enjoyed (and shared!) the series before and I'm about to do it again.  Ready or not, here comes today's ebook of choice...
The Publicist, Book 4
by
Christine George
About the book...
Mac Ellis is never down for long but this time is proving to be a little more challenging. It’s been almost two years since he and Kate split up and Mac’s still wrestling with the guilt of breaking her heart.
Mac Ellis is a legend both in and out of the bedroom and when an amazing opportunity comes his way to head up a publishing company, Mac grabs it and restarts his career. As luck would have it, he and Kate wind up vying for the same title: A book that promises to be the biggest book of the year, maybe of a career.
Smart, sexy, and beautiful Sydney Montgomery is a top CIA operative. Some at the agency call her a savant, but the world, if they knew, would call her Wonder Women, because she brought down what could have been one of the biggest terrorist threats the country would have ever seen. Now Sydney is telling her story and Mac wants to publish her book, but Sydney has a secret and when Mac meets her, he realizes she is not at all what he expected.
Because love the second time around is always sweeter...
For anyone that has had the esteemed pleasure of reading The Publicist series (all three titles of which I've reviewed right here on the site...SQUEE!), you know Mac's track record.  Book one, dreamboat!  Book two, devilish dreamboat!  Book three, naughty hottie that went way way WAY too far.  Admittedly, I was Team Mac at the start but quickly switched over to Team Nick (*sigh*) and lived a happy live vicariously thereafter...BUT, even after all was said and done in The Climax, Part 2, there was always a part of me that wondered, what was in store for dear old misguided Mac.  He wasn't a bad guy at heart but he let his heart choose badly (no, Kate wasn't a bad choice...you KNOW what I mean!).  Did that mean he wasn't deserving of love in his own time?  Absolutely....not.  Which brings us to today...
Author Christina George is very in tune with her fans, so much so that she invites you to email her directly at the end of every book to share thoughts, comments, questions, or whatever else might have crossed your mind.  She heard the masses and brought us something to satisfy our curiosity quite nicely.  *raises eyebrows*  Mac has learned the lessons of love the hard way and while he's not taking himself off the market permanently, he isn't actively seeking another conquest...and then there was Wonder Woman.   No, we're not talking about the brunette with the red, white, and blue ensemble (gold power cuffs included); we're talking about a CIA operative that's deadly...in more ways than one.  From their first meeting, sparks fly but both have enough strength in reserve to let everything flow beneath the surface, undetectable to the other; well, at least until the dams of recognition set free a past that you won't see coming.
It's hot and spicy while still showing us the sweeter side of Mac...not that we didn't know it was there, but it's nice to see him let his guard down sometimes and not be fully in control of everything.  Seeing how it's shorter than the other installments, I won't ramble on too long for fear of spoiling all the juicy fun within but suffice it to say, their hearts run the gauntlet of love like the champions they are.  Is there a happily ever after in store for them?  I'll let you discover that one on your own but keep an eye out for familiar faces along the way...including some face time with our dear now-married-with-children Kate!  Dun dun dunnnnn.....
Recommended read for adult readers that are already fans of the series as well as Contemporary Romance fans the world over.  Oh and a quick side note, the author mentions a story of Vivienne next go round!  (Can we say instant wish list addition?)
About author Christina George...
I’ve worked in publishing for twenty years (give or take). Here’s what this book isn’t. It’s not a slam against publishing (though it is broken) and it’s not a slam against authors (though some of them are crazy). This book is not autobiographical though many of the stories are true. No you won’t know which ones, hell it’s more fun to guess, right? I continue to work in publicity and help authors because at the end of the day I do love books, I love publishing, and I love authors. I hope you’ll enjoy this romp through Kate’s world as much as I enjoyed creating it.
