TOP FIVE favorite memories...
...of what reminds you that your home was/is filled with love
with Author Desiree Blanchard
Thinking about all the memories from childhood brings me so much joy. I vividly remember spending so much time at my grandparent's cottage with my family. I always loved hanging out by the fire, roasting marshmallows and making smores, and my all-time favorite was the hot dog spiders. We would be outside till the wee hours eating junk food until our bellies hurt and telling funny stories. We also spent a lot of time there during the winter months. We would go skating on the lake, which was in their background, and we would also go ice fishing and sliding.
A few other fun memories from childhood were having dinner as a family and then going out for ice cream. Of course, I would always get the bubble gum flavor. Then, we would go to the park to play and walk the trails. Since I grew up living in the north, we spent many hours outdoors. As I write this, I remember playing outside in the snow, having the biggest belly laughs with my brother and making snow cabins. These were definitely some of my favorite memories as a child. My family always made me feel safe and seen, and I knew everything would be okay if something went wrong. They were always there for me, whether to pick me up from school if I wasn't feeling well or to take care of me. My parents also always gave me the best advice when I needed it but, at the same time, supported my decisions.
Now that I am a mother of two very young children, I strive for a house filled with love and laughter. Of course, some days can be challenging, but I model kindness and respect to my children. I want to raise kind humans, ensure they know that they have a voice and for them to know that I will always be there for them. In addition, I only hope that my children know and can feel comfortable talking to me about anything. I try daily to spend quality time with my children and play something they choose. Sometimes we will read books, play with cars, or make playdough together. My son always wants to make the playdough the colour blue. My daughter likes playing with her farm animals and stacking blocks. Being a parent is a blessing, and I'm glad to be on such a fantastic journey and watch my children become adults.

About the author...
Desiree Blanchard is an Early Interventionist and a Positive Parenting Practitioner. She completed her Master’s degree in Human Kinetics, where she evaluated certain child health behaviors in a daycare setting. Desiree also has many trainings and certifications in early childhood development.
