The weekend may be over but Spring Break has just begun...and in my neck of the woods, we get inundated! Between the locals and the out-of-towners, the traffic gets insane, so the chance to have a sleepover Saturday (or any day for that matter!) with friends and avoid all that hubbub sounds like a dream. You've got to love this growing series. Each story, thus far, has managed to capture a childhood fear, or concern, as well as a moral, in an easy to understand way that makes it relatable to kids while still being entertaining. Take this one...
Alycat is getting ready for a sleepover with all her friends, but when one calls to say she won't be able to make it, and she has something big to share, disappointment settles in...along with worry. You see, the conversation wasn't complete, there was an interruption in the line, and with those holes in the news, they start to plug them in with whatever their imaginations can churn up...for better or worse! One thing leads to another until the whole party of cats is on edge, making the arrival of an unexpected guest THAT much more surprising! (Perfectly timed arrival too, if I might add!) When everything comes out, Alycat discovers there was really no reason to worry after all, and she had turned the proverbial molehill into a mountain of her own creation.
So, we get the entertaining factor that is a the basis of a good sleepover, along with a few lessons, such as a reminder that partial conversations don't mean the worst...they just mean more information is needed especially before jumping right into world of worry! Asking questions to clarify a situation, or to better understand things is never something to shy away from...you can't learn what you don't know and you don't know what you don't know until you encounter it. Confused? Think how easily it could happen to a kiddo then. When in doubt, ASK...that way the gathering of friends remains pure and simple fun, like the cake drop game, instead of a mini-horror story of your own making.
A great time to be had between the epages, and a lovely addition to the Alycat series, with a great story and eye-catching illustrations to boot. Can't wait to see where her next adventure takes us...
